Chapter 9: The Day
"I think Mom, she did it," Chen Xui said, a hint of mischief in his voice.
"Consort Ai always loves you," he added, a teasing smile on his face.
"Your cheeks are red from Consort Ai's slap," he continued, noticing the flush on her face.
The next day, the palace was alive with the sounds of celebration. The rhythmic beat of traditional Chinese drums filled the air, announcing the joyous occasion of the wedding. The kitchen bustled with activity, preparing an extravagant feast, while the palace was adorned with vibrant decorations. Fireworks lit up the sky, adding to the festive atmosphere.
"Your Highness, you are beautiful," Chen Xui said, gently combing the princess's hair as she sat before the mirror. The bride's gown, which she was supposed to wear the day before, flowed elegantly around her.
Meanwhile, at General Wang's mansion, the scene was equally festive. Flowers and ribbons decorated every corner, and Wang Wei sat on his chair in his groom's attire. "Young master, I am happy for you. Seeing you getting married is... is... my joy," Bao said, putting on a show of exaggerated tears.
Wei playfully pushed him away with his leg. "Brother," Wang Mei entered the room, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Mei, why are you dressed like this?" Wei asked, noticing her unusual attire.
"Brother, I brought you this for your wedding," Mei said, holding out a small, intricately wrapped gift.
"Insect?" Bao exclaimed, causing Wei to shoot him a warning glance.
"Madam Li said you are getting married today. She said you will bring your wife here, you will sleep together, and then you will have a baby," Mei said joyfully, relishing the words.
"Mei, don't talk to Madam Li again," Wang Wei said firmly. "And go change your clothes; they're full of sand."
"How old are you, Mei?" Wei asked, watching her count on her fingers.
"Sixteen," she finally declared.
"No, you are nineteen! And playing with sand is bad," Wei corrected her.
"Playing with sand is bad, playing with sand is bad," she began to sing, her voice echoing as she skipped out of the room to change her dress.
"Bao, prepare the contract for tonight," Wei ordered, his tone serious.
"The time has come for the groom to pick up the bride!" a man's voice boomed, excitement rippling through the crowd. "Woah, he looks so handsome!" people whispered, admiring Wang Wei as he made his way to the princess.
"The groom is here," the guard announced to Princess Hua as Chen Xui escorted her outside. They bowed to the gods, their parents, and to each other, a sign of respect and tradition. After the ceremony, the groom led his bride home, the air thick with anticipation.
As night fell, the time for the wedding ceremony arrived. Princess Hua was led to the bridal chamber, where she sat waiting for her groom. The moment had finally come; the door opened, and Wang Wei stepped inside.
"Your Highness, please remove your veil and sign this contract,"
