"Pirate ship…"
Looking far off at the faint white skull visible on the black flag, shanuo instantly knew what he was facing, and his heart tightened. He instinctively took two steps back, his face turning slightly grim.
In his previous life, though he enjoyed watching pirate stories, shanuo naturally understood that, unlike Luffy, most pirates could be described as scum. While roaming the seas, their favorite activities were pillaging, killing, and stealing treasure.
For ordinary people living in various places, the term "pirate" itself was a symbol of sin and disaster. Hearing that a notorious pirate had risen to fame, or that new pirates had arrived nearby, would cause them anxiety for a long time.
The residents of Orange Town were no exception.
"Andrik Island is so remote in the East Sea that pirates haven't been seen here for years.
Why now…?"
Seeing the pirate ship getting closer through the fog, shanuo gritted his teeth. Although he could fight against ordinary adults, encountering ruthless pirates could mean an instant death, and he wouldn't even know how it happened. The harbor area was quite empty, and staying here any longer would be too dangerous.
Looking around, a small grove of trees caught his attention. Shanuo's eyes brightened, and he hurried over, choosing the thickest tree to hide behind.
After waiting quietly for a while, he quickly climbed the tree, and once his body was completely concealed by the lush branches and leaves, he cautiously peeked his head out.
As expected, the massive pirate ship slowly entered the harbor. As the ship's speed gradually slowed, a burly sailor appeared on the side of the deck, tossing a large black anchor into the water. A loud splash followed by a dull thud signaled that the pirate ship had securely docked.
"Are they coming?"
Shanuo tensed, staring at the pirate ship, holding his breath, trying to get a better look at the situation on the deck.
However, the next scene surprised him.
There was no large group of vicious pirates pouring out, nor were there any gleaming weapons. Only one man in a white cloak appeared, followed by a small, short boy who looked about eight or nine years old.
Distant laughter reached his ears, seemingly the man bidding farewell to people from the ship's cabin. He then led the boy off the ship, waved goodbye to the pirate ship, and walked toward the main road heading north, toward Orange Town.
As for the massive pirate ship shanuo had been worried about, it showed no sign of staying any longer. It raised its anchor, set sail, and soon disappeared into the fog, out of shanuo's sight.
Seeing this, shanuo's tension and worries faded significantly.
"What the heck… This pirate ship was just here to drop someone off, passing by on the way?"
Watching the pirate ship depart, shanuo rolled his eyes and looked toward Orange Town. The people who had just gotten off the ship were too far away for him to make out their faces, but since there were only two of them, and one was a little boy, they probably posed no serious threat to the island's residents. There was no need for him to take a shortcut back to warn them.
Although his father had abandoned his family to become a pirate, leaving shanuo an orphan, the people of Orange Town had always treated him well. Shanuo himself liked the peaceful and harmonious atmosphere here. If pirates had truly come to attack, he wouldn't have run off secretly and let the town's people perish without a fight.
"I wonder who those two are, though, to be sent here by such a large pirate ship."
Thinking back to the massive pirate ship he'd seen earlier, shanuo still felt uneasy. A ship of that size could be as large as all the fishing boats in Orange Town combined. From his knowledge of the pirate world, he knew that the size of a pirate ship often reflected the strength of the pirate crew.
From this, he deduced that the ship that had just docked at Andrik Island's harbor was probably from a famous pirate crew in the East Sea, and the person who came was definitely not a small-time figure.
"Anyway, I'll head back and try to gather some information…"
After such an encounter, shanuo had lost his desire to continue his morning jog along the coastline. He thought for a moment, then jumped down from the tree and ran back toward the town.
...
By afternoon.
The autumn sun broke through thick clouds and spread across the sea, but when it touched the body, it only left a gentle warmth that spread from the heart to every part of the body, making people want to bask in the sunlight all day long.
On such a day, enjoying time with like-minded friends, laughing and chatting in the warm sun, and indulging in food and drink, must be a very pleasant experience.
Shanuo had thought that way in the past. However, now, as he looked at the scene before him, he didn't feel any of that joy. Instead, he felt a sense of irritation clearly written on his face.
Anderson, Bill, and Roy, three little brats, were sitting in front of shanuo with their little stools, staring at him with eager faces, full of expectation.
To his right was a large pot of boiling water, and on the old wooden table beside it, there was a basin of small crayfish, cleaned and de-headed, along with various colorful condiments.
"Like-minded friends…" shanuo glanced at the three of them, a look of exasperation in his eyes.
"Eh? Are we starting to cook the crayfish now?"
Seeing shanuo look over, the three little guys immediately became excited, their mouths already starting to water. Roy even forgot to wipe his nose, impatiently urging, "Hey hey hey, shanuo, hurry up, we're starving!"
"Hmph…"
Looking at the thick snot on Roy's face, shanuo couldn't help but twitch his mouth, feeling too powerless to say anything. He silently turned his gaze away.
Speaking of which, he had told these three little friends the night before to come over for crayfish. But somehow, whether they misheard him or if his crayfish were just too enticing, these little rascals came over in the middle of the day, sitting at the door with eager expressions and staring at him. It made shanuo, who had just been practicing swordplay, feel extremely uncomfortable.
Unable to do anything about it, he had no choice but to abandon his practice plans and started preparing the crayfish ahead of time.
