One Piece:I am King Luffy!

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: First Battle with a Devil Fruit User

"Another Devil Fruit user!"

Nami exclaimed in surprise as she looked toward the pirate ship. It was the first time she'd seen someone else with a Devil Fruit ability, besides Uta.

Uta, equally curious, looked over with wide eyes, letting out a small gasp of excitement.

"Legendary Devil Fruit users… it's said that once you eat one, you gain extraordinary powers. Even a frail child could have unstoppable strength," Bell-mère muttered, stealing a quick glance at Luffy.

She'd once suspected that Luffy had eaten a Devil Fruit himself, but seeing him standing on the water had ruled that out. As everyone knew, Devil Fruit users were weakened by water—that was their only known weakness.

"Who are you? Who's after you? If you don't speak up, I'll start shooting!"

Bell-mère demanded, swiftly pulling out her rifle and pointing it at the small wooden boat below.

"No… don't shoot! We used to be pirates, but we don't do that anymore!"

Seeing Bell-mère raise her gun, the men on the boat quickly raised their hands in surrender.

"We were part of Uhnan's crew. We followed him around, taking gold from bad guys. Then, when Uhnan gathered all that treasure, he decided to quit piracy. He disbanded the crew and told us to take the gold and spread it around…"

"The legendary Uhnan!" Nami's eyes lit up with excitement, practically glowing with the thought of gold.

"Yes, that Uhnan. He's dead now, but his legend still draws people in, so we're constantly hunted by bounty hunters. We were just trying to escape," explained the ex-pirate, his voice tinged with desperation.

"You're with the Navy, right? Save us! Even if you capture us, don't let those guys get to us!" he pleaded.

Usually, the Navy would simply imprison pirates, but the treasure hunters chasing them were known to kill without hesitation. The ex-pirates would rather surrender to the Navy than be caught by those brutal hunters.

"What do you think?" Bell-mère glanced at Luffy instinctively.

Even though he was young, Luffy's strength and reliability made her seek his opinion in times like these.

"Retired pirates, huh?" Luffy pondered, rubbing his chin.

"Let's just hand them over to the nearest Navy base," he suggested.

"You're letting them go?" Bell-mère asked, slightly surprised.

Luffy usually dealt with pirates in a rather… final way, so she hadn't expected him to show mercy this time.

"They said they're no longer pirates. And besides, didn't Commander Pudding Pudding mention that Uhnan was one of the good ones? We could just let them go, or hand them over to the base," Luffy replied.

Bell-mère lowered the ladder, allowing the ex-pirates to climb aboard.

"Thank you so much! If you could let us go, we'd be even more grateful."

The ex-pirates climbed onto the deck, thanking them profusely.

"Wait a minute… is this all the crew you have?"

Once on deck, they looked around in confusion. It seemed the seagull flag had fooled them; instead of the expected Navy force, they saw only a handful of girls and adults. How had they managed to sail the Grand Line with such minimal manpower?

But no… images of Luffy blocking the laser shot flashed in their minds.

That boy—he must be insanely strong… maybe even a Devil Fruit user himself.

"As you can see, we rely on our sea cow to pull the ship across the sea," Luffy said, gesturing casually. "Let me secure you with these chains. It's safer for everyone this way."

He approached them with some iron chains equipped with safety locks, his sword sheathed as he moved.

The ex-pirates instinctively reached toward their backs, then hesitated and lowered their hands. "Do as you will…"

Luffy bound them securely, then checked them over and confiscated their weapons.

"Interesting. You didn't resist," Luffy observed, flipping a dagger in his hand.

"We're just trying to survive," one of them replied.

"Hey, do you have a treasure map on you? The Navy says Uhnan's treasure is a myth," Nami asked, leaning over with wide eyes.

"Uhnan's map is real, but the treasure is a myth," the ex-pirates replied.

"After Uhnan passed away, we made a treasure map that leads to his tomb, but there's no treasure there. It was just a little prank of ours, a way to keep his legend alive. I mean, think about it—Uhnan supposedly collected a third of the world's treasure, and we never even made it to the Grand Line!"

They looked slightly annoyed. "But the story spread, and more and more hunters came after us. We lost touch with each other in the endless chases… most of the others were probably killed by now."

"Our main pursuer is the 'Golden Hunter' Eldoraggo—a Devil Fruit user with a terrifying power. He can shoot powerful beams from his mouth, like the one that hit your ship earlier. And he's got a fearsome swordsman with him…"

"Bell-mère, keep an eye on them. I'm going to take care of this guy," Luffy said, gripping his sword firmly.

"I've never fought another Devil Fruit user before."

Uta crossed her arms, giving Luffy a challenging look, one eyebrow raised.

Luffy responded with a grin, "I'm off!"

"He just jumped overboard!!"

The ex-pirates watched in disbelief as Luffy, with his sword strapped to his back, leapt over the side of the ship, spreading his arms as he descended toward the sea.

Bell-mère grabbed the transponder snail and began contacting the nearest Navy base.

"Please… spare us! We haven't done anything wrong!"

Bound up like bundles of hay, the ex-pirates squirmed against the chains, hoping for mercy.

"Fools," Bell-mère huffed. "You expect us to go through every detail of your past crimes to see if you're telling the truth?"

She gave them a disdainful glance and then turned to the others on the ship. "Listen up, everyone! Always take what strangers say with a grain of salt. Trust no one too easily; it's the only way to protect yourselves. Stay cautious, don't get cocky…"

Meanwhile, aboard the pirate ship:

"What's with that Navy vessel?"

The pirate captain, clad in heavy golden armor, looked through a spyglass toward the Navy ship. His focus rested on the dark, shadowy shape below the surface—a massive shadow that sent a chill down his spine.

It was as if something horrifying lay hidden beneath the waves.

Eldoraggo hesitated to make a move. There was something about that ship… it just didn't add up.

Suddenly, Luffy came soaring down toward him, his sword drawn.

His target was clear: the gaudily dressed captain who looked every bit like the ship's leader, wrapped in gleaming gold armor.

With a fiery strike, Luffy slashed downward.

But the man beside Eldoraggo, an imposing figure with dark skin and a feathered headdress, moved swiftly.

This Native warrior drew his heavy sword and blocked Luffy's strike from below, sending a deafening clash across the ship.

The deck splintered from the impact, and the Native warrior staggered back.

"Who are you?!"

Eldoraggo stepped ba

ck, his gaze fixed warily on the boy holding the massive sword.

"To think… you managed to overpower a swordsman like Golas…"
