One Piece:I am King Luffy!

Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Broken Sword

The King's Sword didn't cut through—

Luffy felt the impact transfer through the blade, surprised for a moment, but used the force to leap back onto the deck. His opponent, the swordsman who had crossed blades with him, fell through the cracked deck and disappeared to the level below.

Landing with bent knees, Luffy twisted his body from the waist, channeling power into his movement. Flames erupted from his blade, radiating intense heat as he unleashed a crescent-shaped slash.

These opponents were strong, even some with Devil Fruit abilities. There was no room for games here; he had to go all out.

Swinging the heavy King's Sword, the blast of heat distorted Edrago's face. He took a step back, surprised that this young fighter wasn't giving him a chance to talk. Facing such intense heat, Edrago recognized it—another ability user, like himself!

Edrago took a deep breath, wearing his heavy golden armor. He was a big, powerfully built man with a mane of fiery red hair. Golden energy rippled around his body, causing his hair to float like a lion's thick mane, as a constant aura of pale gold radiated from him. He seemed to be charging up for something powerful.

"Captain!" shouted some of the weaker pirates, alarmed as they realized what he was about to do. "Please control the power! Don't blow up the ship!"

Edrago opened his mouth, gathering a blue glow in his throat—the same energy beam he had shown before.

A beam of light shot from Edrago's mouth.

Boom!

Luffy let out a surprised yell as he rolled back from the force.

Up close, the energy beam seemed even stronger, detonating with alarming speed. Luffy was blasted backward, his clothes seared by the concentrated heat, leaving some scrapes and burns on his skin.

"Hmph!"

Satisfied with forcing Luffy back, Edrago put some distance between them.

"You're also a Devil Fruit user, huh? Hey, why don't you join my crew?" Edrago, now sweating slightly, made his offer.

This kid had such surprising strength. It would be great if he joined his crew, Edrago thought, considering the offer seriously.

High heat, energy beams, and explosions.

Luffy stood up, tearing off the tattered remains of his clothing.

He gripped his sword with both hands, readying himself.

His stance made his refusal clear. Edrago scowled, pulling out a few gold coins.

"Golass, what are you doing? Kill him, and I'll give you a hundred gold coins."

He tossed the gold coins to the floor, a twisted grin spreading across his face.

A hand emerged from the hole in the deck, grabbing the edge and pulling up the swordsman who had fallen—a man who looked like a Native warrior.

Luffy moved quickly, taking advantage of his opponent's climb to strike.

Clang—

A flash of sparks.

Golass managed to block Luffy's blade mid-air with his greatsword and landed next to Edrago.

In that moment of impact, Luffy noticed a chip appear on his opponent's sword.

"A fine sword."

Golass inspected his sword, seeing a distinct chip along the edge.

"Oh, your sword's failing on you?" Edrago chuckled, "Then kill him and take his sword."

Golass bent down, scooping up the coins, and grinned as he looked at Luffy's blade with bloodlust.

"I like money, and a sword is an indispensable companion for a swordsman."

"Kid, you're skilled with the blade, but you're too young."

Golass said, acknowledging Luffy's ability.

He had managed to block Luffy's heavy two-handed slash with only one hand, his only disadvantage being the inferior quality of his weapon.

"Is that so?"

Luffy glanced down at the King's Sword in his hand. "You're a skilled swordsman too. But how many more swings do you think you can take?"

"I'm going to break your sword."

Pure physical strength was one thing, but the quality of a weapon could also decide the outcome.

Golass lowered his center of gravity, almost crouching down, pointing his long blade at Luffy.

That stance—it was the prelude to a quick thrust.

A move of incredible speed.

Luffy readied himself, watching Golass's feet plant firmly on the deck.

Edrago watched the sword duel with interest, a smile on his face.

He didn't seem to have any intention of intervening.

Golass launched forward, his feet cracking the deck as he appeared instantly before Luffy.

But Luffy sidestepped, noticing the aura of energy around the long blade—a swordsman capable of unleashing flying slashes.

Golass brought down his greatsword in wide, sweeping motions, but hesitated to block Luffy's strikes. As Luffy had said, his sword wouldn't withstand many more hits; a few more clashes, and his weapon would shatter. Forced to dodge, he spun and lunged, his blade aimed directly at Luffy's chest.

Luffy leaned back to evade the thrust, then countered with a horizontal sweep that made Golass retreat. The flames that erupted from Luffy's blade prevented Golass from using his full strength.

It was frustrating, this kind of duel.

"What's wrong? Are you afraid to continue clashing with me?" Luffy's speed increased, delivering a relentless series of slashes.

Golass had no choice but to parry, sending sparks flying. The flames licking along Luffy's blade didn't extinguish in the wind of their clashes, stubbornly clinging to their surroundings.

As the flames spread, Golass noticed that he couldn't snuff them out by fanning them with his sword. The flames only grew, creeping onto his armor.

Golass tried slapping the flames on his clothes, but they clung stubbornly, spreading to his hands. Covered in flammable materials, the fire quickly spread, engulfing him completely.

"Argh—" he cried out, hastily tearing off his burning clothes and throwing them away.

But the flames continued to burn his skin, like the inextinguishable fires of the underworld.

Luffy slashed horizontally, and Golass raised his sword to block.

Clang—

The sparks flew as Luffy's heavy sword tore through Golass's weakened weapon, severing his head in a single, fluid strike.

Clap, clap, clap…

Edrago began applauding, clearly impressed by Luffy's victory.

Just as Luffy had intended, his moves were deadly yet visually stunning—a display of swordsmanship that could captivate any onlooker.

It was a mesmerizing fight.

Edrago clapped genuinely, speaking to Luffy with admiration. "Join my crew. I don't want to kill you."

"It seems you're very confident…" Luffy replied.

"In our first exchange, you should've already realized my power," Edrago said, grinning. "I ate the Soundwave-Soundwave Fruit. I can turn my roars into laser-like blasts. No one can escape the speed of sound! Hahahaha…"

Bang!

The sound of gunfire cut him off, and Edrago's eyes went wide as he fell to his knees in front of Luffy.

Three bullet holes appeared on his forehead.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Luffy unloaded his pistol into Edrago's body, each shot embedding itself with

deadly precision.

The black bullets exploded on impact. Despite his Devil Fruit powers, Edrago had no special defense.

And so…

He was dead.
