Chapter 155: Chapter 155: The Iai Strike
"Amazing..." Bellemere murmured, holding her rifle as she watched Luffy's incredible display of skill.
First, his Conqueror's Haki had whipped up a storm, causing a wave of pirates along the shoreline to collapse. Then the boy vanished from sight, reappearing as a fiery bird swooping down.
But that pirate was even more formidable. Standing his ground, he radiated an overwhelming presence. Just one of his fists was as large as Luffy's entire body, and his muscles gleamed with a metallic sheen as he sent a punch skyward, colliding directly with the boy.
The ground cracked beneath them, spiderwebs of fractures spreading outward like a deadly bloom. Luffy's sword pierced through Bear King's fist, but he took the brunt of the punch, with the massive fist practically imprinting itself on his whole body.
Flames quickly engulfed Bear King's form as Luffy withdrew his sword and leaped down from the giant's hand. Bellemere couldn't tell if he was injured until he landed, swiftly dispatching the other officers in a sweeping strike that cleared a safe zone around him. Only then did he cough up a mouthful of blood.
"Luffy's hurt!" Uta called out, gripping the ship's railing.
"Don't disturb his fight. We can only watch from here," Bellemere said, resting a hand on Uta's shoulder.
The ship docked at the shore, and Uta held the video Transponder Snail, faithfully capturing everything it could see through its lenses.
Both Luffy and Bear King were fully absorbed in the fight, oblivious to the approaching ship. Bellemere, rifle in hand, watched anxiously, her grip tense, but she dared not fire a shot.
From an observer's perspective, it was clear that Luffy had shifted from his powerful, open strikes to swift maneuvers, darting around with rapid fiery slashes. Like a flea, he moved around the giant, striking until he finally found an opening, spiraling through the air like a blazing top to strike Bear King at the nape of his neck.
"We've won!" Nami cheered, clenching her fist in excitement.
Bellemere exhaled in relief.
With a strike to the neck like that, it should be over!
But the situation shifted again.
Bear King's massive hands reached for the back of his neck, forcing Luffy to retreat. A gruesome wound gaped there, torn open by Luffy's sword. Then, with an explosion, the giant collapsed to the ground—only to rise once more.
"How... can someone have a body like this?" Bellemere said in disbelief. That wound should've been fatal. How was he still standing with such an injury to his neck?
"Damn... my hands are going numb from the impact…" Luffy panted, eyeing the giant who was struggling back to his feet.
Bear King's entire body was covered in blood, radiating intense heat as if he had become an inferno himself. Even the steam rising from his wounds had become part of his attack.
"So much pain... Why does it hurt so much?" Bear King clutched the gaping wound on his neck, his charred fur nearly burned away, exposing his scorched, blackened skin.
"Why does it hurt this much? I'm a steel man… Just what kind of power do you wield?"
He rose to his full, towering height, casting a massive shadow over Luffy.
"The Executioner of Pirates," he said, his tone dark.
"By now, you should be falling," Luffy replied, clutching his chest, panting heavily.
It had turned into the kind of grueling endurance fight he despised, forcing him to rely on his stamina because he hadn't managed a killing blow.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you. I'm no Devil Fruit user." Luffy gripped his sword tightly.
"Still trying to hide your powers?" Bear King lowered his arm from his neck, the intense heat cauterizing the wound and stopping the bleeding.
"This wound? It's nothing serious to me. But you…" Bear King leaned down, pointing at Luffy. "You've said plenty of things to make me mad during this fight. Once your stamina's gone, I'll crush your bones like a hydraulic press, piece by piece!"
"Keep dancing while you can!"
Bear King's fist smashed into the ground, sinking into the earth. In an instant, Luffy leaped into the air, unleashing a rapid barrage of fiery slashes, carving through Bear King's skin like an inferno.
Bear King's arms shot straight, radiating steam as he began to spin, his massive limbs sweeping out like fan blades. Luffy, moving to dodge, was a fraction too slow, and the tip of the King's Sword was struck by Bear King's iron fist.
The impact loosened his grip, sending the King's Sword spinning away before it embedded itself in a nearby cliff, only the hilt remaining visible.
Bear King, looking slightly dazed, laughed as he clutched his head and gazed at Luffy.
"No more sword for you, single-sword style swordsman."
"Victory's already mine!"
Bear King had encountered swordsmen before; he knew the fate of a swordsman without his sword. Most would see their combat prowess drop by eighty percent, transforming them from masters to helpless fighters.
Luffy's hands were still numb from the blow, but he steadied himself, assuming a stance as if he were about to draw a blade.
"Do you think a sword is such an inconvenience?" Luffy shouted confidently.
"What, are you about to perform an Iai strike without a sword?" Bear King taunted.
Luffy didn't answer; instead, he unleashed a fiery hand slash, striking Bear King square in the eye, causing him to flinch and instinctively shut his eyes.
"This is my No-Sword Style."
Luffy rushed forward, leaping onto Bear King's face and delivering rapid punches with both fists.
"Ora ora!"
Dents formed across Bear King's face, the sound of metal ringing out with each blow.
When Bear King swiped a hand toward him, Luffy countered with a spinning kick to his cheek, redirecting the giant's own slap into his own face.
The slap knocked Luffy back, but he twisted in midair, landing lightly on his feet.
Looking at Bear King's swollen face, Luffy realized that punch had hit harder than any of his own.
Half of Bear King's face had swollen up from the impact. That slap had certainly packed a punch.
His body was steel through and through—even his eyes had formidable defenses.
"Your punches don't hurt at all!" Bear King snorted, glaring at Luffy.
With a forceful pull, Bear King tore off the remnants of his tattered clothes, revealing his bulging muscles.
He gestured dismissively toward Luffy.
"Without your sword, you're almost no threat to me. Go on, hit me as much as you like, little flea."
Bear King sneered, eager to prove his superiority in raw power. Now that the King's Sword was out of play, two rounds of trading blows revealed that, even with flaming punches, Luffy's attacks barely registered as pain.
"Really? I'll take you up on that!" Luffy clenched his fists, circling Bear King with a focused look.
"Go ahead, wear yourself out." Bear King taunted with a sinister grin.
Luffy punched the air, the sound of wind whistling as he feigned a fighting stance, his gaze fixed on Bear King's eyes, gesturing as though ready to strike.
Bear King grinned back, tightening his fists in anticipation.
Luffy assumed a poised stance, as if preparing to draw a blade, imitating the beginning of an Iai strike.
Bear King merely braced himself, adopting a grappling pose, his face mocking.
"Iai!"
Luffy drew a pistol, taking on an unexpectedly cunning stance as he aimed d
irectly at Bear King's right eye. Caught off guard, Bear King's eyes widened in shock as Luffy pulled the trigger.
