Chapter 4
Chapter 4 – Enhancement
—–CROW—–
Today, I woke up in the afternoon as usual after sleeping in.
[Tower of Trials #2661 (1/1)]
I thought at least one person would have come in by the third day, but I’m still alone in the tower today.
So far, I haven’t needed a party for anything, so it’s been fine, but I wonder if newbies don’t usually come often.
I opened the open community and looked up how many newbies were entering other servers. It seems that there are large variations between servers.
It’s said that there were times when more than a hundred newbies were thrown in a day, but there were also times when there was no news for almost a month.
In our country, the population is large compared to the number of towers, so it seems that such gaps were rare.
It seems that it’s not unusual for no one to come in for three days. They’ll come when the time is right.
“Then today… let’s start with enhancement.”
I ordered a 200G breakfast at the inn, ate, and then went to the village blacksmith.
The Tower of Trials has a structure similar to an RPG game overall. The system of enhancing weapons and armor using materials is also similar to a game.
[Steel Straight Sword]
Attack Power + 35 (Slashing)
Critical Damage: x 2.0
Durability 200/200
Enhancement Attempts Available: 5
These are the stats of the [Steel Straight Sword] I’m currently using. As a store-bought weapon, there are no usage restrictions.
Attack power represents the basic power of the weapon, and the (Slashing) mark next to it indicates the attack type of the weapon.
Slashing type means that the attack power is fully applied only when a slashing attack is made. If this were a hammer instead of a sword, it would have been (Blunt).
These attack types also have different additional effects depending on the type, and it is said that the slashing type has a chance to inflict bleeding damage.
And the critical damage below that indicates the multiplier by which the damage is amplified when a critical hit occurs, like when I caught the goblin yesterday.
It says 2.0, so it means that it will roughly double the damage, but the open community says not to trust the displayed values too much.
It’s said that the power of the same critical hit varies depending on where it lands. Of course, it’s true that the higher the number, the better.
I don’t need to explain durability. When it reaches zero, steel and mithril are equally broken.
And the most important number is the number of enhancement attempts available at the bottom.
All weapons can only be enhanced as many times as this number allows.
“Welcome~ What can I help you with!”
I approached the blacksmith, who spoke his emotionless line, and held out the [Steel Straight Sword].
The number of enhancement attempts available for the store-bought weapon [Steel Straight Sword] is 5. Since the number is reduced even if it fails, it’s not easy to get to +5.
The basic enhancement success rate is exactly 50%, so the probability of succeeding all 5 times is only about 3%. I’ve almost never succeeded in such a probability in my life.
But it’s okay. Because I have an enormous amount of enhancement materials that I collected yesterday.
If you use additional materials during the enhancement attempt, the success rate increases accordingly. The probability when the materials are added to the upper limit is 90%.
Unless you’re incredibly unlucky, you’ll succeed at least 4 times. I added the materials and pressed the enhance button.
Of course, I chose the [Sharp] option, which increases attack power, and the result is of course…
[+5 Steel Straight Sword]
Attack Power + 65 (Slashing)
Critical Damage: x 2.0
Durability 200/200
Enhancement Attempts Available: 0
…a clean +5. Even though it’s a store-bought weapon, it has become more powerful than most boss drop items.
And I still have plenty of enhancement materials left. I immediately enhanced all my armor to the maximum number of times as well.
Seo Jinhyuk Lv.14 (Jobless)
HP: 260/260
MP: 175/175
Strength: 20 (14+6)
Agility: 16 (14+2)
Durability: 20 (14+6)
Intelligence: 14
My stats changed noticeably just by enhancing my equipment. If you add the attack power that is not displayed in the status window, my actual level is over 20.
Of course, this is not a number that can be achieved on the third day. I captured my equipment window and status window and immediately uploaded them to the open community.
“Heh, it’s going crazy.”
The corners of my mouth rise automatically at the intense reactions of the community ghosts.
But the truth is, my third day hasn’t even started yet.
Now that I’ve finished enhancing, it’s time to level up in the labyrinth again, right?
**
I don’t have any skills because I haven’t changed jobs, but there was no problem with hunting in the labyrinth.
Just yesterday, I was able to slaughter regular goblins, so today I tried fighting higher-level mobs like goblin soldiers and goblin centurions.
As befitting higher-level mobs, their movements were very different from regular goblins, but what was I supposed to do about their fast and agile movements?
“Hyaaah!”
-Slash!
When the [Steel Straight Sword] with Sharp +5 was swung once, the head of a goblin soldier was cut off.
Two goblin soldiers in the rear thrust their spears while chattering, but they were easily blocked by the shield I held out in front – [World’s Rabbit Index].
Actually, I didn’t need to hold out the shield. The options of the armor and shield are always applied.
Just as the weapon’s attack power more than doubled through enhancement, my defense, now that I’ve enhanced each piece of armor, is four times higher than before.
-Thud!
The goblin centurion standing behind the soldiers rushed out like a bullet and swung its ax, but it just felt like being hit by a pillow.
“What are you doing, come on!”
I shouted at the goblins and rushed towards them. Two goblins fall over with a single body slam.
I stabbed the fallen goblins with my sword, and their breaths were immediately cut off, and I gained experience.
Goblin centurions look the same as regular goblins on the outside, but their combat abilities are much higher, so they are called the natural enemy of newbies.
It’s said that more than half of the deaths of 1st-floor newbie challengers who don’t know anything are caused by this guy, so it’s a really dangerous monster, but.
“You little shit!”
I, a mere third-day newbie, was mocking and killing such a centurion. It’s overwhelming.
This is all thanks to being able to monopolize the resources of the 2661 tower. When I first entered the tower, I thought I was a dirt spoon as a Hunter too.
Not at all. Now I have obtained the perfect position of a golden spoon that I had dreamed of.
Ah, this is turning your life around.
**
Today’s labyrinth hunting was sweet too.
Leveling up is one thing, but today I got a lot more treasure chests. A whopping 8 medium chests.
And I also got 2 large chests. It’s said that even Rankers from other servers have rarely gotten large treasure chests from the labyrinth, but I’ve already gotten two of them.
The items that came out of the large chests were the already overflowing enhancement materials, a large amount of gold, and a unique item with a unique option.
[Ring of the Bloodsucking Demon]
Defense +5
Intelligence + 2
20% chance to recover 5% of HP when an enemy is defeated.
Enhancement Attempts Available: 2
It’s a ring accessory that cannot be obtained in the 1st floor by normal means, and it’s an enhanceable ring with stats and a unique option.
There are not many rings with basic stats other than defense, and there are not many rings with enhancement attempts.
Moreover, there are not many accessories with this kind of unique option, even if it’s not a ring. It’s an incredibly rare item.
“Wow… this is really amazing.”
I can’t do anything about it right now, but if I can sell it to Rankers or challengers aiming to become high-rank Hunters later, I can get a considerable price for it.
In addition to this, I also obtained several pieces of armor that were better than store-bought items, and I cleared several quests to get decent rewards.
Each one would make newbies from other towers go crazy, but they are nothing to me, who is monopolizing a tower.
“This is the life.”
Since entering the Tower of Trials, every moment has been the peak of dopamine.
I feel like I’m getting addicted to the stimulation and pleasure that I would never have felt if I had just continued my worthless dirt spoon life.
And the destination of this dopamine is, of course, flexing in the open community.

[Title: Day 3 Tower of Trials Newbie Stats, Rate?]
(Photo)
Like yesterday, I rented the most expensive accommodation, immediately lay down on the bed, and started browsing the community.
It was really fun to see the comments saying how could I have these stats in just 3 days, and now they were even claiming it was manipulated.
So I was engrossed in the community until dawn again and fell asleep, and the next day I woke up late in the afternoon.
[Tower of Trials #2661 (1/1)]
No other challengers came in today either. I was still alone in the tower, but I didn’t think much of it.
And looking back, it seems that this was the last day that was just fun.
What I thought on the day I fell into this crazy tower alone was right.
Yeah, my life was fucked.
