Chapter 70 - An Opportunity
“Outside of Gloomy Woods?” Qian Chonglang’s heart stirred. “Something’s gone down there recently, hasn’t it? Does Guild Leader Du Ba know what’s going on?”
Du Ba Tianxia nodded, “You mean how the Blood Skeleton group wiped out the Tianxiu Guild?”
“Don’t worry about it, Brother Chonglang. From what I’ve seen on the forums, the Blood Skeleton is a neutral boss. As long as you don’t provoke him, he won’t bother you.”
“Let’s focus on our own fight. It shouldn’t affect us.”
“No, no, no, you don’t understand what I mean.” Qian Chonglang shook his head. He put a piece of beef into his mouth and changed the subject, “How confident are you about this operation, Guild Leader Du Ba?”
“How confident?” Du Ba Tianxia was suddenly taken aback by the question.
With only 2,000 players in his guild, taking down two level 30 bosses was a daunting task.
His guild had attempted to defeat these bosses before, but they had proven to be formidable foes. Both bosses possessed extremely dangerous skills that made them a nightmare to fight.
Alt, one of the bosses, emitted a corrosive aura that dealt 300 points of true damage per second to any player who dared to get close. To make matters worse, the aura also corroded their armor by 200 points, making melee combat virtually impossible.
Arman, the other boss, had a summoning skill that allowed her to call forth 100 ghouls at once. Although the ghouls were relatively weak, their sheer numbers made them a force to be reckoned with.
When Arman’s health fell to half, she would summon the ghouls to hide behind while calling forth 20 evil priests to rapidly restore her health.
Without players capable of dealing massive spell damage to keep her in check, Arman was nearly unbeatable.
“If it were before, we probably wouldn’t be confident,” Du Ba Tianxia said with a helpless sigh, but his face brightened up in an instant. “But now that Brother Chonglang’s on board, I’ve got to say, our chances are looking a lot better.”
Du Ba Tianxia’s tone was quite self-assured.
However, Qian Chonglang shook his head, “Don’t overestimate me, I’m still only level 18 and I haven’t even unlocked all my skills yet. I’m not as powerful as you think.”
He took a sip of water before continuing, “If my master and the Dharma Saint teamed up, maybe we’d have a shot. But let’s be real, she’s not gonna lift a finger for something like this.”
Du Ba Tianxia raised an eyebrow, rubbing his forehead, “You’re not feeling confident either, Brother Chonglang?”
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, with two bosses from that bloody hellish land dropping Guild Establishment Tokens just slipping away!” Du Ba Tianxia said, his enthusiasm palpable.
Du Ba Tianxia was obviously unwilling to let it go.
Qian Chonglang countered, “It’s an opportunity, sure, but you still need to be able to take them down. Those bosses deal massive damage and have crazy auras, not to mention summoning and regen abilities. Even with 2,000 people, I don’t think you’d fare well.”
He continued, “Plus, I’m pretty sure we’re not the only ones eyeing those bosses. Am I right?”
Du Ba Tianxia nodded, unapologetic, “Yeah, the 81st ranked Tianxiu Guild, the 752nd ranked Aotian Gang, and the 59th ranked Subtle Fragrance Clan are all sniffing around.”
“But you know, those other guilds are just a joke compared to us. I mean, after the Tianxiu Guild got destroyed, their top players took a huge hit. They’re not even a threat anymore.”
Du Ba Tianxia couldn’t help but sound a little smug as he said this. “And don’t even get me started on the Aotian Gang. Yeah, they’ve got that hot-headed Qi Tun Tianxia leading them, and some rich backers, but their skills are seriously lacking.”
“The only ones who actually worry me are the Subtle Fragrance Clan. They’re basically an all-magic guild – skeleton mages, elemental mages, frost soul mages, and extreme flame mages.”
After listening, Qian Chonglang nodded in approval, expressing admiration for Du Ba Tianxia’s intelligence gathering and analytical capabilities.
“Guild Leader Du Ba has clearly put in a ton of work and is dead-set on making this happen. But are you absolutely sure you haven’t missed someone?”
“If you can get that person on board, I’d say your chances of success just went from possible to practically guaranteed.”
