Chapter : Prologue part one: Overlord the new player
Somewhere on the planet, in a bustling city, a young man of no more than 20 years old walked calmly through the streets. Immersed in his world, he listened to music through his headphones. His black hair fell messily over his forehead, contrasting with his fair skin. With a height of 1.70 meters, his figure stood out in the crowd. He wore a black sweatshirt that fit comfortably to his body, matching pants and white shoes that gave him a particular touch. His name was Liam.
After walking for a while, he stopped at a supermarket. He wandered between the shelves, picking up everything he needed. After going through the checkout and paying, he came out with a bag in his hand, where he kept his purchases. He started back along the same route, lost in his thoughts.
"So this is the last meal I can afford... It's a shame. My life is a mess..." he mused to himself with resignation.
He walked for several blocks until he came to a group of imposing skyscrapers. Without stopping, he turned the corner and, after a few steps, entered an alley. He walked forward until he was behind the large buildings, in a small space where barely a ray of sunlight entered. There, a solitary tree stood on a patch of grass, offering a peculiar contrast to the coldness of the city that surrounded it. Near the tree, a modest house seemed to camouflage itself in the gloomy landscape. Liam took a key from his pocket, opened the door and entered. The interior was simple and somewhat desolate: a worn table, an unused kitchen and a single room formed the setting for his daily life.
Liam walked over to the table and set the bag of groceries down in the corner. Then, he headed into the only room in the house. Inside, there was just a small bed with no headboard or decorations, set against one of the bare walls. With nothing else in the space, the place felt empty, almost abandoned. He laid back down on the bed, sighing as he pulled out his cell phone, the screen of which had a slight crack in the corner. He turned the device on and opened an app to watch videos, flipping through them without paying much attention as the sky outside slowly darkened.
After a while, he stopped watching the videos and his hand fell to his chest. He stared at the ceiling with a mixture of tiredness and resignation, his thoughts sinking into the loneliness that surrounded him. "This is hard… how much longer do I have to endure? I feel exhausted, it's always been this way since I was young… I don't know if I have the strength to continue anymore," he thought, letting out a sigh.
He raised his hand again and looked at his phone screen, looking for a distraction. He opened the browser, typed in an anime page, and in the search box, typed in "Overlord." Finding the series, he selected the first episode and turned the phone to view it in full screen. As the episode began, a faint smile appeared on his face as he recognized the opening scene.
"This is the seventh time I've seen this…" he thought, letting himself be carried away by the story he loved so much. The protagonist of Overlord, trapped in a different world, seemed able to escape from his own problems and start over. Liam felt a strange connection with that premise. "I wish I could escape my world like him… I'm tired…" he whispered, allowing his eyelids to become heavy.
As the episode continued, Liam closed his eyes without realizing it. The sound of the anime still echoed in the room, but it soon blended with the slow rhythm of his breathing, and sleep enveloped him. Outside, the night advanced, covering the city with a blanket of calm that contrasted with the constant noise in his mind.
After what seemed like several hours, Liam opened his eyes. As he did so, he noticed that everything around him was pure white. He was lying on the ground, and as he sat up, he calmly observed his surroundings. Everything was white, but in a tone that was not blinding; on the contrary, it emanated a peculiar tranquility.
Liam began to walk, scanning the place for any sign. His face remained expressionless, showing no signs of emotion. After a while, he came to what seemed to be a solitary wooden chair in the middle of the white immensity. He approached it and looked at it closely. Without thinking much, he pushed the chair by one leg, making it spin.
Then, a deep voice echoed through the air.
—Wow, you are interesting. You kicked the chair without hesitation.
Liam looked around, searching for the source of the voice.
"Who are you and where are you?" he asked firmly.
The voice responded calmly.
—You don't need to know who I am. I'm just a simple person who achieved his goal.
Liam stopped looking around and spoke, keeping his seriousness.
—Did you reach your goal? What does that mean?
"Like I said, you don't need to know," the voice replied, its tone amused and somewhat distant. "But I've watched your life, Liam. You're more interesting than you seem. Tell me, what do you want?"
Liam frowned, not showing any particular emotion, but answered seriously.
—Why am I here? What is this place?
The voice let out a light laugh.
—Do you really want to know that? This is your last chance to wish for something… think about it carefully.
Liam was a little surprised. He thought for a moment and finally spoke.
—I want to be reincarnated in a new world. That's what I wish, whatever you are.
The voice laughed again, echoing with a mix of amusement and satisfaction.
—I knew you'd figure it out fast, Liam… the great Liam, the one who destroyed everything he loved and ran away from his problems.
Liam frowned, puzzled.
—It seems you know me quite well… Are you a god?
"I am not a god. I am superior to that," the voice replied, laughing.
Liam remained thoughtful, but then spoke firmly.
—So why did you bring me here? What is your goal?
—You come from only one dimension, Liam. This place contains hundreds of infinite dimensions. The god of that place sealed your world so that no one can interfere with it.
"So, you got me out of there?" Liam asked, trying to understand.
The voice laughed again, amused.
—You're wrong about one thing. It's true that I brought you here… but in reality, you shouldn't exist anymore. You died on that land.
Liam opened his eyes in surprise and spoke urgently.
—What? I died in that place? How did it happen?
The voice responded, intrigued.
—Tell me, do you believe in karma?
Liam fell to the ground, sitting up, processing what he had just heard. The voice continued, with a playful tone.
—Well, that's how you died, so to speak.
Liam clenched his fists and responded angrily.
—Why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this?
—I don't know what you did, but everything has an end. That was your destiny.
Liam took a deep breath and stared into space.
—So what am I doing here? What do you want from me?
The voice responded with amusement:
—I don't want anything; I have already achieved my goal. You are the first to set foot in this place, and since the experiment was successful, I will offer you a chance. Tell me, what do you want and how should it be fulfilled?
Liam stood, staring into space as he spoke.
—Your goal was to break through the barrier of the god of my world, wasn't it?
There was a brief silence. Then the voice replied coldly:
—You should focus on your wish, because if you keep talking nonsense, I'll have no choice but to make you disappear.
Liam stepped back, feeling the weight of the threat. He nodded and replied calmly:
—Okay, I understand. I'll tell you what I want.
The voice changed to a tone of joy, as if he had been waiting for that moment:
—Perfect, I'm listening.
Liam took a breath and explained:
—I want to be reincarnated in the world of my favorite series, Overlord.
The voice sounded thoughtful.
—That series, huh? Got it. Anything else?
Liam continued, a glint of excitement in his words.
—I want to be reincarnated in the protagonist's world, one year before the Yggdrasil game is released. And I want to have infinite money and food.
The voice laughed , as if it found his request especially ambitious.
—Well, you are indeed demanding… but since you are the first one here, I will help you. So you wish to live in that world, where the air is polluted and one year before Yggdrasil leaves. If that is what you wish, it won't be difficult. I hope that this time you won't be stuck in the past, waiting for the world to change again, like you did in your previous life.
Liam lowered his head, nodding with a mix of hope and resignation.
—I hope so too… I really want to achieve peace and fun.
The voice said goodbye, with a note of slight compassion.
—So, this is goodbye. I hope you don't die too soon in that world. Goodbye, Liam.
At that moment, Liam felt an energy enveloping him. He closed his eyes involuntarily and before he knew it, he fell into unconsciousness.
Elsewhere, Liam found himself in a futuristic room, where technology dominated the space. Oversized curtains completely covered one side of the room, and the dim glow of devices illuminated the room, plunging it into a technological gloom. On a wide bed, with black sheets and white pillows, Liam lay in the center, motionless.
Slowly, he opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling, blinking as he took in the place he was in. Slowly, he turned his head, examining every corner of the room until a thought crossed his mind.
—So… I've been reincarnated, he muttered to himself. It doesn't feel like a dream.
With some caution, Liam sat up on the edge of the bed. He placed his feet on the cold floor and stood up, walking around the room with a mixture of wonder and curiosity. He touched each object he found, as if to reassure himself of its reality.
Finally, his fingers brushed against a holographic clock floating beside the bed, projecting the time onto a translucent screen. Fascinated, Liam stared at the advanced technology, sensing that the start of this new life had much to offer.
Liam continued to explore the room, observing every corner carefully. He approached a computer with a holographic screen that floated a few inches from the table, projecting menus and graphics in the air. In front of it, a peculiar chair caught his attention: it had a connector on the neck part, designed for some kind of direct link. Next to the computer, a cell phone-like device rested on the table; it seemed to be just a transparent glass, and next to it, a futuristic-looking helmet completed the equipment.
Intrigued, Liam moved his hand to the back of his neck and felt a small device embedded in it, no larger than a centimeter. He pondered in silence.
—So this is the connector for virtual reality… —he thought—. The chair and the helmet must be the transmitters. How interesting.
After examining the equipment, Liam walked over to the wall where the curtains were. He slid them aside, revealing a full-height glass window. As he opened them, a stunning view unfolded before his eyes: a futuristic city stretched out as far as the eye could see, with imposing buildings and gleaming technology. Flying vehicles streaked across the sky in various directions, and holographic paths floated through the air, marking routes and destinations.
Liam's eyes widened. The image was so majestic it seemed unreal. Amazed, he moved closer to the glass, pressing his face against it to get a better look. He looked down and noticed that he was on one of the top floors of a very tall building. The city stretched out below him, with streets and floating structures that defied gravity.
However, there was something peculiar about the air: a light mist covered much of the city. It wasn't thick, but it was enough to be felt. Seeing it, Liam thought.
—So that's pollution… how problematic.
He closed the curtains again, then looked at the door and walked towards it. As he stopped in front of the entrance, the door opened automatically, allowing him to pass through.
Liam crossed the threshold and looked into the room. On one side, a large window covered the entire wall, allowing for a panoramic view of the city. On the opposite wall, was the fully equipped kitchen, and between both areas, in the center of the room. He walked in and examined it; the kitchen was equipped with everything necessary.
Liam turned his body, looking down at the counter in front of him. It reached up to his waist. He looked up again and looked out the window at the city.
Scanning the room, he noticed a television mounted on the wall, with armchairs in front of it and, behind it, a large dining room with a box on the table. Straight ahead, at the back of the room, was the hallway, which housed two doors: one against the wall of the corridor and another at the end of the hallway.
Liam craned his neck a little to get a better look at the hallway and muttered to himself:
—So that door attached to the wall of the hallway must be the bathroom, and the other one, the exit of the house.
His eyes fell on a glass attached to the wall, which seemed to contain several objects. Liam sharpened his gaze and added:
—So that's... a mask. I get it, it's for pollution.
He looked away at the table and noticed a box sitting there. Just as he was about to approach it, a voice rang out in the room, with a slightly robotic and feminine tone.
—The system has been activated. Everything is working properly: charging system, working, everything in perfect condition. Mr. Liam is already awake. Mr. Liam, good morning. I hope you had a good morning. Status explanation: You have one unread message. Would you like to read it?
Liam stared at the ceiling; every time the voice spoke, the lights flickered.
—Who are you? —he asked.
—My name is "Six", a control and navigation system for the aid and enhancement of the comfort of my user, that is, you, Mr. Liam —the voice replied.
—I understand. So, you're like an assistant to me?
—That's right, sir.
—I understand. Tell me, you said I have an unread message. What does it say?
—I understand, sir. The unread message has been opened. I will begin reading it.
Recipient: The Lord of the Voice
Subject: Reincarnated
Message: This message will be spoken by the voice of the person who left it:
"When this message is read, it means that you are already awake. I will tell you what role you play in this life. First, your appearance is the same as in your previous world, so nothing has changed. Second, as you can see right now, you will most likely be in the living room, where on the dining table there is a box. Your role in this life is simple: you are the owner of a company that is responsible for creating places for air purification and related technological devices. The company was founded by you when you were 15 years old. Your prototypes were the best and grew greatly, becoming the best company in the world in that aspect. Through it, you are an investor, getting enough money to live more than three lives as a multimillionaire. In the box are all the ownership papers, plus a credit card and other documents useful for your life.
Regarding what you asked about infinite food, in the fridge, every time you take out a food, a new one will appear. Also, if you write down what foods you want on a piece of paper in the box, the plate will appear. Hmm , what else can I add? Oh, I remember: there is a cabinet by the front door. Throw your trash in that place so the apartment stays clean. Also, near the walls behind the dining room, if you hit the wall, some cabinets with weights for you to exercise and a treadmill will appear.
Since you asked to never leave the apartment, I imagine you'll get fat if you don't exercise. So that was it. Enjoy your new life and learn about this world, so you can handle things better."
Six's voice rang out again:
—End of message.
An anime-style drop appeared on Liam's head as he said:
—That being is strange… I created this whole identity for myself. —He let out a small laugh. —That's strange… but oh well.
Liam walked out of the kitchen and walked over to the box. Opening it, he found several items, including papers, an ID card, ownership documents, and a credit card with a slip of paper that had the password on it, along with other useful things. He sat down and began to read each document carefully.
After a while, Liam finished looking through everything and muttered:
—Everything is ready, I already understand most of these papers…
He leaned back in his chair and said to himself:
—I think it would be best to look for information about this world.
He looked up at the ceiling and spoke:
—Six, are you there?
Six immediately responded:
—Yes, Mr. Liam, how may I help you?
Liam got up from his seat, walked over to the couches, and sat in front of the TV.
—I want you to show me the information of this era, how they got to this level and the most relevant information. Put it on TV.
The television, which was just a glass, turned on, and Six replied:
—Understood, Mr. Liam.
All the information began to scroll across the television as Liam focused his attention. After what seemed like hours, the sun had set, and the data transmission finally ended.
Six spoke:
—Mr. Liam, that's all the information.
From the armchair, Liam replied:
—I understand… I think it's a little late. I'm going to sleep.
"Rest easy," Six replied.
Liam stood up and walked to his room. As he entered, he walked to the closet; as he touched one of the drawers, it slid out on its own, revealing all kinds of clothes. Liam looked through each drawer for a suitable outfit. When he found something comfortable, he changed and got under the covers. He stared at the ceiling for a while, until he finally closed his eyes and fell asleep.
The next day, Liam opened his eyes and, looking at the ceiling, thought to himself: So it wasn't a dream. He smiled, sat up in bed, and then stood up. He left the room, passing through the kitchen to the bathroom. Opening the door, he was surprised and thought: This is very luxurious… although, why is the bathroom so far from the room? Well, nevermind.
He went into the shower and, when he was done, he went out wrapped in a towel to the bedroom to get dressed. He chose a white shirt, a red sweatshirt, black pants and white shoes. Then, he went to the kitchen, opened the refrigerator and took out food to prepare something. He muttered to himself:
—I didn't eat anything yesterday.
He touched his stomach and smiled.
—I'm very hungry.
He prepared his breakfast and enjoyed it in the dining room in peace. As he ate, he noticed that although the place was not large, it was spacious and had many luxuries that he found fascinating.
When he finished breakfast, he washed the dishes and walked to the wall behind the dining room, on the side where the television was. He touched the wall with his hand, and a compartment opened, revealing all kinds of exercise equipment. He touched the wall again, closing the compartments, and thought to himself:
Okay, I'll start exercising tomorrow.
Then, he went to his room. He entered, walked a few steps until he reached the computer and turned it on, sitting down in the chair. His gaze drifted to the phone; he touched it with a finger, turning it on. Checking it, he noticed that there was nothing strange, but when he checked the contacts application, he noticed several numbers without any significant details. He thought:
How strange… I wonder whose numbers these are, hmmm …
He put the phone back in its place, then turned his attention back to the computer. He opened a browser and searched for a name: Yggdrasil game.
When he did, several pages appeared in the results. He clicked on the first one, which displayed some interesting information. Liam read it carefully, then leaned back in his chair and commented:
—So the game has been in the making for two years… and we are in the year 2125. This is the official website of the company that created the game. Interesting… It says here that if we send a message to this email, we could participate in the beta version. I understand that, but the chances of getting a spot are very low.
He sighed, looking at the ceiling. After thinking about it for a while, a smile appeared on his face, and he spoke:
—Six.
"Sir," the robotic voice replied.
—I want you to send an email to this email address requesting to test the Yggdrasil game beta, but not as Liam, but as the owner of the Pure Air company. Do you understand me, Six?
—I understand, sir. I will send an email requesting the beta test of the Yggdrasil game on behalf of the owner of the Pure Air Company, Mr. Liam.
"That's right," Liam confirmed.
After a few minutes, Six spoke again.
—Mr. Liam, I have already sent the email.
Liam replied:
—I understand. I want you to do something else, find the hardest VR game that involves hand-to-hand combat, magic, and swords.
Six replied:
—I understand, sir. Give me a moment… I already found the game. It's called War of the Past.
Intrigued, Liam asked:
—What is the game about?
"It's about protecting a fortress as a soldier in an army," Six explained. "The player can use magic, swords, and melee combat. Each time he defends the fortress from an attack, it will become larger and more powerful, leveling up."
Liam nodded:
—I understand. Is the difficulty high?
—The problem with its difficulty is that after each defeated wave, the enemy's power triples. You must think strategically and use only what is necessary to advance. If you lose against a wave, you will return to the initial level and lose all progress. It has a low audience due to its extreme difficulty.
"I understand. Buy it and install it to play," Liam ordered.
"Give me a moment…" Six replied, and after about five minutes he spoke again. "All set, Mr. Liam. The game is already set up and connected to the virtual reality system."
"I understand. How do I connect?" Liam asked.
"There's a connector on the back of the chair," Six explained.
Liam found the connector and said:
—And now what do I do?
—Connect it to the terminal on your neck, where the transmitter is.
Liam sat back in his chair and spoke,
—What do I do now? —he asked.
"Put your helmet on and close your eyes," Six replied.
Liam picked up the virtual reality headset that was on the table next to his cell phone and put it on. As he did so, Liam found himself in front of a menu of preset applications that moved in response to his thoughts. After a moment of adjustment, he located the title Past War. Just before entering, he spoke:
—Six, are you there?
Six's voice rang in his ear immediately:
—Here I am, Mr. Liam. What do you need?
—So you can connect to the virtual world too —Liam commented, somewhat impressed.
"I have that function, sir. Call me whenever you need assistance," Six replied.
With a smile, Liam looked at the title and, controlling the menu with his mind, accessed the game War of the Past.
Upon entering the game, Liam's mind traveled through a tunnel of lights until he appeared in an interface to customize his avatar. Without wasting any time, he quickly configured his appearance and was transported through the same tunnel to a barren land. Upon opening his eyes, he noticed that he was dressed like a warrior from ancient times, and was alone in the middle of a desolate desert. As he turned around, he saw a large tower.
—So that's what I have to protect —he thought.
A floating screen appeared in front of him with the option: "Tutorial: Start? Yes/No." Liam tapped the "Yes," and a sword and shield immediately appeared beside him. In the distance, a large wolf fixed its gaze on Liam, ready to attack.
Quickly, Liam took up his sword and shield, preparing for combat. Then, a projection appeared in front of him, showing what the wolf would do and how he should move to counter its attacks. Understanding the game's strategy, he followed the indications and executed each movement with precision. After an intense fight, the wolf fell to the ground, and Liam stabbed his sword into the beast's body, taking a deep breath after his first victory.
Liam smiled as a screen appeared in front of him, displaying "Tutorial Complete." In that instant, his vision shifted back to the game's main interface, where a menu displayed various options for routes and game modes. Calmly examining the interface, he found a tab that read "Ranking," and with a tap of his finger, he opened the leaderboard.
The list showed the highest level players and who had advanced the most in the game. Liam, curious, scrolled down to the highest level player, and was surprised.
"So the most advanced player has reached level 103," he murmured, intrigued.
He continued to move down the rankings and noticed that most players were failing to get past level 30. The obvious difficulty in progress brought a smile to his face.
"This makes it more interesting," he said. "It will be a good way for me to adapt to virtual reality more efficiently."
An hour later, Liam logged out of the game, sighing as he took off his helmet.
"This game is really hard. I got to level 5, but I lost right away. It's hard to progress, but I'm getting used to it quickly," he said to himself, disconnecting the transmitter before flopping down on the bed.
At that moment, Six interrupted the silence:
—Mr. Liam, the email you sent to the game developer Yggdrasil has already received a reply.
Liam, surprised, sat up quickly in bed.
—What did they say?
—They mentioned that it would be a pleasure to have him beta test the game before its official release and that they will send him the game as soon as it is ready, in approximately six months.
Liam smiled with satisfaction.
—I understand. Send a thank you email on my behalf.
"Understood, Mr. Liam," Six replied.
Liam fell back onto the bed, satisfied.
Days passed, turning into weeks, and then months. During that time, Liam tirelessly dedicated himself to playing Past War. Although he was sometimes defeated and forced to start over from the beginning, he never gave up. With perseverance, he managed to improve until he reached a new record in the game: level 110, one that no one had ever managed to surpass before. Thus, six months passed, and the wait was about to pay off.
At this moment, Liam found himself in a huge castle within the game, observing his surroundings. With a satisfied smile, he muttered to himself:
—The six months are up. It's time to go to Yggdrasil to create a character. —He sighed before saying—: Log out.
The game closed, and Liam disconnected the transmitter from the back of his neck, placed the headset on the table, and stood up. From the large window on his wall, he looked out at the city illuminated by the night lights.
—Six, I want you to install the game when the email from Yggdrasil company arrives. And if I'm asleep, wake me up. Do you understand?
—Yes, Mr. Liam. Don't worry, you can rest easy —Six replied in his robotic voice.
Liam looked around the room, noticing that everything was clean and tidy. He took off his clothes and walked to the bathroom to take a shower. Although he didn't have very defined muscles, his body was starting to show definition after the six months of exercise. After passing through the living room, he could see that everything was clean. He knew that keeping this place clean and tidy was important, something he had learned over time before appearing in this world.
After taking a shower, Liam lay down on his bed and let himself be enveloped by the softness of the sheets. With an eager smile, his thoughts revolved around Yggdrasil . He could barely contain his excitement at the idea of exploring this new virtual world. In his mind, he already imagined vast landscapes, challenges, and the endless possibilities that awaited him.
Finally, she closed her eyes, allowing anticipation to mix with sleep. Tomorrow would be the big day.
The hours passed until, in the middle of the night, Six woke him up.
—Mr. Liam, Mr. Liam, wake up. The game is already installed.
Liam slowly opened his eyes and, still half asleep, asked:
—What time is it, Six?
"It's 12:15 am," Six replied.
Liam sat on the bed and thought, somewhat surprised.
"They sent it early. I thought I would get it at 6am, but it seems they scheduled it for this time." He stretched, got out of bed, and walked to the closet, pulling out some comfortable clothes to put on. Then, he left the room and went to the bathroom, washing his face to clear his head before returning to the bedroom. Sitting in his chair, Liam spoke:
—Six, how deep can you help me in the game?
"I can only give you outside information," Six replied.
—What kind of information?
—I can provide data outside the game, depending on what the game needs. It's what the system allows.
Liam made a thoughtful expression and commented:
—So just external information. You can't help me in combat or advise me on the best paths in the game.
—Correct, sir. I can only offer you information about external content, as well as news posted on the game forum and additional pages.
—I understand. Then, I want you to monitor the forum and search for relevant information on other pages to find the most valuable items and data in the game. Inform me of anything that can help my growth in Yggdrasil.
—Understood, Mr. Liam. I will send you the relevant information for your progress.
—Perfect, it's time to play.
Liam plugged the cable into the base of his neck and put on the headset, feeling a slight vibration as the system came to life. In front of him, several holographic menus unfolded, and with a simple thought he selected the title: Yggdrasil. He was ready to enter the game.
As he did so, a screen emerged bearing the name Yggdrasil, followed by an epic prologue that began to recount the game's story as images of the nine worlds unfolded. First, Ásbyrgi , the towering World of the Gods; then Niflheim , a realm covered in eternal ice; Muspelheim , scorching and chaotic, home of fire; and Midgard, the world of humans. Next, Alfheim , illuminated by the ethereal beauty of the elves; Jotunheim , the cold, mountainous realm of the giants; Svartálfaheim , gloomy and full of mysteries, where dwarves dwell; Helheim , the dark World of the Dead; and finally, Vanaheim , the mysterious realm of magic.
The last image showed the towering World Tree, its roots and branches connecting each realm. A deep voice echoed through the void: "Here, you can be the hero… or the villain of the nine worlds. Fate is in your hands."
Liam smiled as he watched the introduction and then another screen appeared:
— Before continuing in the game, you must choose a race, class, and name for your avatar.
Suddenly, Liam found himself in a deep blue space, with nothing around him. He looked down and noticed that his body was nothing more than a blue-hued silhouette, a basic avatar with no features. In front of him, a floating screen appeared with a blank space and a virtual keyboard. A robotic voice announced:
— Choose the name you will use in the game.
Liam thought for a moment: "The name I choose will represent me for the rest of my life in this game… I must choose well." He closed his eyes for a moment, letting the thoughts flow, and then muttered to himself:
— I think this name could work. It doesn't sound bad, although it is a bit embarrassing, hehe.
After a slight laugh, he typed into the console: Narkhan.
The voice replied:
— Is that the name you choose?
The options Accept or Deny appeared on the screen . Liam tapped Accept confidently.
The voice continued:
— Now that you have chosen your name, please select a race.
The screen changed, displaying three main categories: Human Race, Demi-Human Races, and Heteromorphic Races.
— I think it would be best to choose a heteromorphic race — Liam thought, recalling the history of Ainz and his world — Even though Ainz was sent to the new world, the fact that he waited until the end doesn't mean that I'm in the same situation. I'm not in his place, but it's something I want to explore.
With this decision in mind, he selected the Heteromorphic Races option. Immediately, a list of subraces was displayed : Undead, Demons, Angels, Dragons, Elementals, Slimes , Vampires, Insectoids , Plant-Men, and Beast-Men with demonic affinity.
Liam looked at the list and thought out loud:
— It seems that there are fewer races than I imagined... Or perhaps Ainz's guild members were subraces of these? Hmm , I'll have to find out as I play. Besides, this is just the beta of the game, so there's still a lot to discover.
Liam looked at each class carefully and thought, "The most powerful races are the undead, and within them are the vampire and the skeleton. Another option would be the dragons, which apparently have elemental affinity, allowing you to choose a specific element. And the last strong race is the demons, although the problem is their weakness to light, the same as the undead." He pondered for a moment, considering each advantage and disadvantage. "The dragon race, on the other hand, does not have such marked weaknesses, but it is somewhat more limited than the other two."
Liam closed his eyes for a moment and decided:
— I think I know what to choose.
He selected the dragon race and muttered:
— The dragon race does not have weaknesses as strong as the others, and its resistance makes it almost impenetrable.
The screen changed, showing the element options for his dragon: water, wind, fire, and earth.
Liam thought out loud:
— Will I be able to change my dragon's element in the future? Maybe something like time, space, darkness or light… hmm . For now, I'll choose fire.
With a tap, he selected the fire element, and the robotic voice spoke again:
— Right now, your name is Narkhan, race: fire dragon. Now you just need to choose the class you will take.
The screen changed again, showing a series of classes.
Liam looked at each one carefully and thought, "Seeing how the game is structured, there are probably racial quests and class quests. But... which class should I choose?"
He slid his finger across the screen, scrolling through the options. There were so many that he felt overwhelmed, though he could make out the general details of each one.
—Hmm , what should I choose? —he wondered .
At this moment, a pop-up message appeared on another screen: Achievement unlocked: Since you are the first to enter Yggdrasil, by choosing a class you will be able to break the class limit.
Liam read the message and analyzed it.
— Wait… if I remember correctly, the novel explained that in order for a player to reach level 100, they had to have multiple classes, because each class has a level cap —he reasoned quietly—. For example, a warrior only reaches level 15. If all classes have a similar cap, then I'll need about seven different classes to reach the maximum level.
He thought carefully, remembering details from the novel:
— Sure, some classes go to level 30, which means I should theoretically choose six different classes. But this all depends on which classes work well together… and whether you can actually break the level cap.
Liam took a deep breath and said:
— How interesting… so I have no class limit.
He slid his finger back down the classes screen until he reached the beginning, where there was an explanation. He read it carefully and then commented to himself:
— I see… that's how it works. Every few levels , you get a slot for a new class. But, since I broke the limit, it's possible my case is different… Hmm , maybe it has to do with the racial quests.
Liam continued to look through the list.
— Apparently, I can only choose three classes at the moment. Although there are seven main class types, and within them, several subclasses. It's a bit complex.
The class types were:
— Hand-to-hand combat classes
— Magic Caster Classes
— Support and Healing Classes
— Assassin and Stealth Classes
— Hybrid and Specialized Classes
— Summoning and Creature Manipulation Classes
— Tank and Defense Classes
Liam looked at the options and began to decide:
— First, in the melee classes, I will choose the Warrior, which specializes in physical combat with strength and defense skills. He can use heavy weapons and armor, which will be useful to me.
He looked at the other options in this category: Dark Knight, Monk, Paladin. None of them seemed particularly interesting.
— Well, with that, hand-to-hand combat won't be a problem.
He then moved on to the category of magic casters.
— Hmm , for my second class I'll choose a magic caster… —he muttered, as he looked through the options—. There's the Arcane Mage, Cleric, Necromancer, and Sorcerer. I think I'll stick with the Arcane Mage, specialized in offensive magic with spells of all elements, capable of dealing great damage from a distance. This class isn't bad.
Finally, he thought of one last class.
— Now, for the third class I will choose one of the summoning classes, to have creatures that fight for me.
He looked at the summoning options: Demon Sorcerer, Spirit Summoner, and Beast Charmer.
—I'll choose the Demonic Sorcerer. With this, I'll be able to make quite a bit of progress for now.
With his decisions made, Liam clicked "OK" and his avatar changed, transforming into a small, 5'7" tall dragon.
Liam looked at his new body and a bead of anime-style sweat appeared on his head as he thought, "I look like a lizardman, but with the head and wings of a dragon. Plus, I'm slimmer and my claws are sharper. My body is red with black marks running across my skin… probably from the demonic sorcery class. At least I have a cloth covering my private part."
Liam touched the fabric and thought, "This is so strange… and this body is so weird too."
He crouched down and noticed that he could walk on all fours, which surprised him a little. He then stood up again and tested his balance, assimilating the new form of his avatar.
Liam, out of curiosity, touched his head and noticed that he had a pair of small horns. He lowered his arms and sighed, when suddenly another screen appeared in front of him.
— Choose a world you want to go to —said a robotic voice.
Liam looked at the nine worlds and thought, "Which one should I go to now? I don't think discrimination will start in the beta… that will probably be in the official game."
He reviewed the list of worlds carefully:
— Hmm , I'm not sure which one to choose. I'm between Jotunheim , the world of giants; Muspelheim , the world of fire; and Helheim , the world of the dead.
He made a thoughtful expression and continued:
— I think it would be best to go to the world of giants first. When I reach an acceptable level, I will go to the world of fire, and finally to Helheim .
Jotunheim option and prepared for what awaited him in the world of giants.
Suddenly, everything went white and in an instant, his surroundings changed: he appeared in the middle of a forest next to a large lake. He looked at the lake and then at the forest, noticing that the trees were immense.
Liam sighed and thought, "Shouldn't I have been sent to a tutorial city or something?"
—State —he said out loud.
At that moment, a screen appeared in front of him, displaying his stats. He noticed a message icon with a notification and, curious, tapped the icon to open the message area. There were two items: one marked "Achievement" and another "New Player Gift Kit."
He first selected the "Achievement" message. The title read "Achievement Completed: First Player to Choose the Dragon Class." The message detailed, "As you are the first to obtain the dragon race, you will be given a special quest. Based on the classes you chose, you will be able to evolve your dragon race into a more advanced one." At the bottom, the Accept and Decline options appeared.
Without hesitation, Liam selected OK. Immediately, another message appeared on the console: "Calculating races you can evolve into…"
The screen kept loading for a moment, and after a short while, four evolution options appeared for Liam to choose from. Surprised, he looked closely at the dragon breeds he could choose to evolve into:
—War Dragon
—Dragon of Destruction
—Hell Dragon
—Devouring Dragon
Liam looked at his status and noticed a new section in the interface called "Evolutions," which displayed the changes that would occur upon reaching certain levels, though only with a brief description of basic appearance and abilities:
Level 1-10: Young Dragon
—Appearance: The scales become denser, covering most of the body and taking on more pronounced hues depending on the type of dragon. The tail becomes longer and the horns begin to take shape.
—Skills: Elemental breath is strengthened, dealing considerable damage, and resistance skills are expanded. A secondary attack based on the element, such as fire, ice, or electricity, is developed.
—Limitations: More developed wings, but not yet functional for prolonged flight.
Liam nodded and thought, "I see... this is what I can do. I need to get to level 11 to get new skills."
The following stages of transformation were shown below:
—Level 10-30: Teenage Dragon
—Level 30-60: Adult Dragon
—Level 60-80: Ancient Dragon
Level 80-100: Primordial Dragon or Divine Dragon
"I guess the advanced skills will only be unlocked when I reach those levels," he mused. Then, he returned to the achievements interface, where the races available to evolve were detailed. Clicking on the first one brought up a description:
War Dragon: The War Dragon is an evolution focused on combat and strategy in battle. This dragon possesses special leadership abilities, inspiring fear and respect in allies and enemies alike.
Curious, he selected the following option:
Destruction Dragon: A being of pure devastation, the Destruction Dragon channels its energy into massive attacks capable of laying waste to landscapes and entire armies. Its strength is feared for its ability to devastate and disintegrate everything in its path.
Liam was amazed by the description and selected the following:
Hell Dragon: This evolution connects with the power of hellfire, turning the dragon into an entity that wields dark flames and scorching heat. It is nearly invulnerable to fire and heat, and instills terror with its immortal fire abilities.
Liam smiled as he read the description and muttered, "Now I understand where these names come from... they seem to line up with the classes I chose."
Finally, he tried to look at the last option, Devouring Dragon, but no description appeared. Puzzled, he tried again until a message appeared:
— This race is restricted. If you complete the quest, you will be able to unlock it.
Surprised by the mystery, Liam thought — So there is something special with this evolution… how interesting.
Liam stared at the screen for a moment, and an idea crossed his mind — Now that I think about it, could this be the race that has to do with breaking the class boundary? Hmm , that's the only idea I can think of… Haha, if it's that way, it'll be interesting.
Liam selected the hidden race, "Devouring Dragon," and as he did so, several screens appeared. Liam read the messages and smiled.
—So it's like this… complete these five missions before you reach level 10. How interesting. But something has me intrigued… it's the game's levels. I'd better call Six.
"Six, are you there?" Liam called, waiting a moment until a voice answered.
—Mr. Liam, did you call me?
—That's right, Six. I want you to find me information about the game's levels, I can't understand it.
Six replied, "Give me a moment, sir."
After a brief pause, Six continued, "The levels are divided into class and race levels.
"How is that, Six?" Liam asked.
"Class levels are improved by leveling up specific skills for that class until you reach the class limit," Six explained. "As for race levels, it would be easier to explain them as user levels, which are achieved by defeating monsters and performing certain tasks."
"And how do I improve class skills?" Liam asked, intrigued.
Six replied, "You can improve them by using the skill more or by giving them user experience, bone marrow of the race. That way, you can increase the level of the skills."
"I understand," Liam said. "Well, now that I know all this, it's time to move on."
"You can call me whenever you need me, Mr. Liam," Six replied.
Liam nodded, then looked at the forest and thought, "How complicated… I wonder why I appeared here, instead of in a newbie village, but oh well, nevermind."
He began to walk among the giant trees, and as he went, he said, "Status," to look at his stats. He noticed that his stamina, mana, and strength were all well above average.
"It was a good idea to choose the dragon race. It is far above the other races," he commented with satisfaction.
Liam then accessed the mission interface and found the list of assigned tasks. As he read them, an awkward smile appeared on his face:
First quest: Obtain the heart of a level 10 superior dragon and devour it.
Second mission: Survive in a hostile environment using only the skills of the dragon race.
Third mission: Honor the ancient dragons with blood, killing prey that exceeds your current level (0/100).
Fourth quest: Summon and defeat the guardian who protects the untold story of the dragon. Reward: Special title.
Fifth mission: Can only be completed after completing the previous ones. Devour the essence of living beings; eat the flesh and drink the blood of the enemy when the time comes.
Liam scratched his head as he read the latest mission.
—That last mission is strange… I wonder what they'll make me fight.
Liam continued walking through the forest and suddenly stopped, thoughtful.
—Wait… what if I stay in this forest? I could complete the quests here before leaving. Although the problem will be the fourth quest… Hmm , how do I summon that guardian? Well, I'll complete the first three first.
At that moment, Liam's adventure began. The first thing he encountered in the forest was a huge wolf, about three meters tall and level five.
Liam hid behind a tree, watching him cautiously as he thought, "His level is five times mine. It will be difficult, but if I protect myself well, I can win. The hardest part is that I must defeat him using only my race's skills: dragon breath and melee combat… How troublesome."
Determined, he rushed out of his hiding place, heading straight for the wolf. The wolf noticed him immediately and, with a look of fury, swung his claws at Liam. Liam quickly dodged, remembering the fights in the war game of the past, where he had faced enemies much stronger than him. That experience had accustomed him to dodging and finding weak points.
The wolf tried to bite him, but Liam turned his body with agility, narrowly dodging the attack. Taking advantage of the proximity, he fixed his gaze on the beast's eyes, opened his mouth and exclaimed:
—Dragon's Breath!
A flame burst out of his mouth, hitting the wolf's head hard. The fire engulfed the wolf completely, reducing its health to zero and leaving it lifeless.
Liam stopped sending fire and watched as the wolf disappeared into a pixel .
"Status," he said, and a screen appeared in front of him. Opening the "Mission" section, he saw that the third mission now showed progress of 1/100.
Sighing, he thought, These missions are complicated, but I think I can accomplish them. With renewed determination, he began to venture deeper into the forest. His dragon tail moved with each step, while his wings fluttered lightly in the air.
For the next month, Liam played every day, only leaving to eat and send reports to the game's developer, reporting bugs he found.
Liam had completed the first, second and third missions in-game during that month . A task that had taken him a whole month without leaving the forest. His current level was level 8.
At this moment, Liam was sitting on a tree branch, looking out at the forest below him. A small smiley emote appeared next to his character. He jumped down, landing softly on the ground, and began walking towards a direction pointed by an arrow.
—So, to summon the guardian, I needed to complete the three previous quests… how interesting, haha. This arrow should guide me to its lair —he thought excitedly—. It is summoned in a strange way, but hey, it's a fantasy game, what can I say?
After walking for a while, Liam came to a large, treeless plain, full of grass that stretched out in all directions. He walked slowly, observing the place carefully, until he reached the center of the plain. At that moment, the arrow that had guided him there disappeared. He stood still for a moment, waiting for something to happen... until he felt a strong wind coming from above, as if something huge was flapping in the sky.
He looked up quickly and was shocked to see a huge wyvern descending, a being related to dragons, with bat-like wings and scales. The wyvern looked at him and, in a deep, resonant voice, spoke:
—You are the one who seeks the untold story, a young dragon?
Liam watched him silently for a moment, then smiled an appreciative smile and spoke with determination.
—I am Narkhan, the dragon that will defeat you.
The wyvern let out a laugh that echoed throughout the field.
—Hahaha, how funny. To think that a young dragon would challenge me. If you want my master's power, you'll have to kill me.
Without further warning, the wyvern screamed, "Fire Breath!" and opened its mouth, unleashing a torrent of fire straight at Liam.
Liam reacted quickly, dodging with a leap to the side, but the wyvern did not cease its attack. The blast of fire followed him, and Liam, without wasting a second, got on all fours, increasing his speed to escape the scorching attack. Taking advantage of his surroundings, he reached the tree line and began to jump between them, supporting himself with his wings to gain height and maneuverability.
The wyvern continued to breathe fire, burning the trees in its path in a line of destruction. Finally, after several seconds, it stopped breathing fire, but was now flying towards Liam at full speed, its huge wings flapping vigorously.
Meanwhile, Liam was jumping between the trees, spreading his wings and moving on all fours. He thought, damn, that wyvern … it's at least 20 times my size. It's going to be a problem to deal with. At that moment, a screen appeared in front of Liam that said, "Mission four and five have been activated. If you fail the missions, you will lose all progress so far and your account will be deleted."
Liam opened his eyes and stopped on a branch. He grabbed the screen with both hands and shouted:
—What!? Why will I lose everything? Damn it!
Liam turned his head and looked up; the wyvern was approaching quickly. He sighed and then spoke:
—It seems I have no choice… if I want this race, I'll have to put in the effort.
wyvern 's head and saw the number 30.
—So that's its level. How long will I have to fight that thing to beat it?
He turned around and said with determination as his tail moved and his wings spread:
—I'll have to give it my all… Hahaha! I want to see what you're capable of.
Liam shouted:
—FUCKING WYVERN!
trees flew into pieces. Liam dodged, jumping between the remains of the broken trees. In the air, he managed to position himself above the wyvern , clenched his fist and exclaimed:
—Warrior's Fist!
He activated his warrior class ability, filling his fist with mana, and slammed it into the wyvern 's back . The impact kicked up the accumulated dust, which was swept away by the wind brought by Liam's blow.
The wyvern spread its wings and flew away. Liam jumped to the side and then looked at the wyvern 's HP bar : it had barely lost a single hit point. Liam just sighed as the wyvern screamed:
—Fire breath!
The wyvern released a powerful flame, burning a large area of the forest around it. Liam, without wasting a second, made a great leap, spreading his wings and beginning to glide to dodge the fire attack. He descended quickly, landing on the ground and, without stopping, began to run at full speed. With a boost, he jumped towards another tree, dodging the wyvern 's fire while continuing his agile and fast run.
Liam used every branch and trunk within his reach to circle around the wyvern , staying out of range of its direct attacks.
As Liam ran, he said out loud, "Inventory," and checked the items at his disposal. Looking at the equipment in his gift kit, he thought, "I did have the weapons for the classes I chose, but, oh well, whatever."
"Equip warrior armor, arcane mage ring, ring of hell!" he exclaimed.
Instantly, his body was covered in brown armor and two rings appeared on his fingers. Stopping on a branch, he shouted:
—Demon Summoning, Level 1: Infernal Imp!
A small red imp, about a meter tall and with small wings, appeared floating in the air, showing a mischievous smile. Liam continued to summon more until he had ten imps on the field.
"Attack!" he ordered.
The imps charged forward excitedly, laughing amongst themselves as they attacked the wyvern . The wyvern , seeing the threat, stopped breathing fire and quickly soared into the sky, dodging the imps' attacks, who shot fireballs from their hands. Once in a safe position in the sky, the wyvern shouted:
—Multiple fireballs!
He opened his mouth and a magic circle appeared in front of him, launching a flurry of fireballs that hit the imps, defeating them all.
Seeing this, a bead of anime-style sweat ran down Liam's temple as he thought, "My attacks aren't doing anything to this monster... Well, time to try a spell."
Liam raised his hand and shouted:
—Ice Stakes, Level 1!
The wyvern , after rapidly descending towards the ground, spread its wings at the last moment and launched itself at full speed towards Liam. Despite continuing to shoot ice spikes, the wyvern received the attacks head on, which slightly reduced its HP, but did not stop it. With a brutal blow of its wing, it launched Liam into the air, passing through several trees until it embedded itself in one with a deafening crash: boom ! Liam's HP dropped to half.
With an effort, Liam pulled himself away from the tree and thought, "Damn, if that hit me in real life, I'd be dead already. That damn wyvern ... I felt the impact of the blow, though, thankfully, not the pain."
The wyvern appeared in front of him, destroying all the trees around it. Liam jumped just in time to dodge the attack, and, from the air, he fell holding a sword, cutting part of the wyvern 's back in a deep slash. However, the wyvern quickly regenerated, and its HP barely decreased by two points.
The wyvern reacted by whipping its tail towards its back to hit Liam. The latter, agile, jumped again, avoiding the attack and spreading his wings to glide to a branch of the nearby trees. From there, he remained observing the wyvern , which looked at him furiously.
Without further delay, the wyvern attacked again, but Liam did not stop either, and both of them immersed themselves in a fierce combat, exchanging aerial and ground attacks.
After what seemed like hours, Liam found himself sitting on top of the wyvern , which was lying on the ground with no HP left, while everything around him was shattered. Flames were still burning on the battlefield, and Liam's armor was completely shattered along with the sword in his hand, which was slowly disappearing into pixels.
Liam spoke:
-State.
A screen appeared showing his stats, and he noted that he only had 5% health left.
—He almost killed me… This bastard is really tough. I wonder how many hours have passed since the fight started.
Liam said, "Quests," and a new screen showed the pending tasks. He noticed that the fourth quest had been completed, though the fifth was still pending. In the description of the fourth quest, there was the option to claim the reward: a title called, "King of the Abyss," with the warning that, once equipped, it could never be removed. Surprised, Liam put his hand to his chin and thought for a moment before muttering to himself:
—I want to complete the fifth mission first. It will be better that way.
Liam stood up and looked at the wyvern 's HP , surprised that even though it was at zero, it didn't disintegrate into pixels like the other enemies. He looked around the forest, watching as the damaged trees slowly disappeared into pixels, then turned his attention back to the wyvern .
"How will I go about devouring it?" he thought, pondering the possibility of using his newly won title. " Hmm , I don't think so."
Liam jumped and landed on the ground. He then turned around, looking at the wyvern closely. He took a few steps towards the huge creature until he was in front of its head, and, somewhat cautiously, he reached out his hand to touch it. As soon as he did, everything around him began to fade into fragments, and the surroundings suddenly changed, turning completely white.
"What…?" he muttered, trying to pull his hand away from the wyvern 's head , but he couldn't.
Just then, the place began to transform again, and floating images appeared around him, as if they were telling a story. Liam, realizing this, stopped struggling and looked around in curiosity. The story began to unfold in front of him.
A small dragon, just a baby, was seen walking alone through a forest in the rain. Its deep black scales shone as the water slid over its skin. After walking through the forest for a while, the dragon came to a clearing from where a town could be seen in the distance. Without stopping, the little creature walked to the center of the town, where it opened its mouth.
Liam stared in surprise at the dragon's many sharp teeth as it clamped its jaws shut. In an instant, all the houses in the village were razed to the ground, as if an invisible force had devoured them. The dragon continued on its way, leaving chaos and destruction behind.
The story quickly moved forward, showing the dragon growing and wreaking more havoc wherever he went, until he finally reached adulthood. Then, a figure appeared in front of him: a person carrying a golden spear and a shining shield. With a decisive move, the figure pierced the dragon's heart, finishing it off instantly. Then, the warrior with the golden spear left, leaving the dragon's limp body on the ground.
The images began to change, showing the passing of seasons, years, and finally millennia, as the dragon's body remained intact, undecayed. After several ages, a small wyvern appeared , its scales glistening in the sunlight. The wyvern approached the dragon, touched its head in respect, and then bowed before retreating. Following this, the dragon's body began to disintegrate into dust, eventually fading into thin air.
Liam watched the end of the story in shock. Returning to the present, he let go of the wyvern 's head and lowered his arm, realizing the magnitude of what he had just seen.
—I see... you carried that power with you —he said quietly.
At that moment, the wyvern opened one of its eyes and spoke in a deep voice:
—You are interesting, young dragon. You have seen the story of the first dragon that devoured the world. Now, it is your turn.
Liam nodded and muttered:
—I understand… only dragons can use that power.
Bowing, Liam opened his mouth and closed it tightly. A deep sound, like the clash of teeth, filled the air, and in that instant, the wyvern was devoured, completely vanishing in a whirlwind of energy.
Suddenly, a screen appeared in front of Liam that read: "Fifth mission completed." Another pop-up appeared right after: "For completing all five missions, you gain the chance to evolve into a cosmic race. Accept/Deny?"
With a smile of anticipation, Liam flicked his finger and selected "OK." At that moment, he felt his body begin to change on its own. Unable to stop himself, he got down on all fours as his form evolved. The wings on his back grew, his tail lengthened, and his teeth sharpened, taking on a terrifying, draconic appearance . His horns emerged in full, and his scales, once a deep red, now turned a deep black, thicker and sharper, going from oval to triangular, with sharp curves at their tips. Beneath them, it seemed as if red energy was flowing, and the markings that ran along his body glowed with life, like rivers of power that pulsed and moved over his skin.
Finally, Liam stood up, and his body, still charged with wild energy, let out a roar to the sky, releasing a wave of power. From within, Liam watched everything, unable to control his movements; he could only smile.
—Hahaha, it's a transformation! —he thought excitedly—. This is amazing, hahaha!
When the roaring ceased, Liam felt himself regaining control of his body. He looked down at his hands and noticed the longer, sharper claws he now possessed. Surprised, he scanned every change in his body, until, curious, he said out loud:
-State.
A screen emerged in front of him, displaying his stats. To his surprise, all of his stats had tripled. At this moment, another warning appeared: "You have obtained the Devouring Dragon race, cosmic race. Caution: If you are killed by a hero of any race, your character will be completely removed from Yggdrasil's game."
Liam blinked in surprise, and another window popped up: "You have defeated a level 30 enemy. The experience will be sent; use it as you wish."
Smiling, Liam muttered to himself:
—Looks like things just got a lot more interesting.
After a moment, another screen appeared: "Do you wish to equip the title of King of the Abyss?" Liam put his hand on his chin and thought.
"What kind of title is this?" he muttered, and then said, "Description."
A screen appeared with the message: "King of the Abyss: the one who rules over the errors of the world, those who must never leave that place."
Surprised, Liam spoke to himself.
—Could it be that the Devouring Dragon comes from that place? It makes sense… A king dragon from that abyss. Hmm , although if I equip this title, I will never be able to take it off… —He smiled, and with a touch accepted the title.
At this moment, another window popped up: "You have obtained the title of King of the Abyss. As a king, you have everything. Warning: If you are killed by the king of this world, your account will be banned from the Yggdrasil game for life."
Immediately, another screen appeared, displaying a series of new classes related to his title:
Classes have been updated to be used with the title, King of the Abyss, and the King of the Abyss class has also been added .
Classes!
—King of the Abyss
—Warrior King of the Abyss
—Arcane Wizard King of the Abyss
—Sorcerer King of Demons and Abyss Beings
Liam looked at each of the classes, and his eyes widened in surprise.
— Hmm , I see that they all start with the word " King"… I wonder what kind of power these attacks will have… —Liam sighed and began to close the windows by clicking on the X in the upper corner, until he reached the main screen, which showed his statistics.
Below, he saw the message "Experience Gained" and "Attribute Points."
—Liam spoke first, I will increase my stats. And he said, Distribute the attribute points evenly across all my stats —he ordered.
The screen automatically moved, and his stats doubled. Liam smiled and thought, compared to my start at least I have six times more stats.
—Of course, I still need to get more attribute points. Each level gives me attribute points, and my stats also increase, plus every ten levels increase by almost double what I get... —He thought for a few seconds and then said—: It would be good to send half of the experience to increase my level and the other half to my classes.
The screen shifted and his stats adjusted, and Liam's level rose to 25, bringing him into the racial rank of a teenage dragon. His body grew to 10 meters, and a height control bar appeared on the screen. Liam adjusted it until he was back to his original size.
"Perfect," he murmured with a satisfied smile, "now it's time to see what I'm capable of with this power."
Liam moved his hand and selected the classes section, opening a new screen where all of his current classes were displayed. Looking at each one, he noticed that they were all level 5, even the "King of the Abyss" class. He smiled in satisfaction, closed the tab, and, seeing the "Attribute Points" option at the bottom, ordered:
—Distribute them evenly.
He sighed in satisfaction as he looked at his stats, now ten times higher than when he was level 8.
Statistics:
— Strength (STR): 100
— Dexterity (DEX): 100
— Constitution (CON): 80
— Intelligence (INT): 120
— Wisdom (WIS): 100
— Charisma (CHA): 80
He reflected, impressed.
—With these stats, my power should be around level 80. Additionally, new class and racial skills have been unlocked.
"Six, are you there?" Liam called.
A voice responded in a formal tone:
—Mr. Liam, what do you need?
—Tell me, when will the item shop open?
—I have reviewed the information, and the store will be available after the beta phase, that is, in about five months.
Liam nodded, albeit somewhat disappointed.
—I understand. You may leave.
With a sigh and a smile on his lips, he murmured:
—Well, that's enough. It's time to go to some town and complete normal quests.
He spread his wings, and beneath them, the energy signatures pulsed intensely, showing his renewed power. Outside of the game, Liam smiled, while inside his avatar appeared an emote reflecting his satisfaction. With a powerful flap of his wings, he rose into the sky, beginning his journey towards his next destination.
Time passed, and Liam continued his unstoppable adventure in the world of Yggdrasil. He dedicated himself to completing quests for villagers, exploring high-level dungeons, and facing powerful enemies, making the most of the unique abilities of his teenage dragon form. The racial abilities he had obtained made him a fearsome force, giving him an advantage in every fight and challenge he encountered.
As a teenage dragon, Liam possessed:
— Essence Devour: A skill that allowed him to absorb a portion of the essence of low and mid-level enemies, permanently increasing his resistance or power stats.
— Dark Breath: A powerful blast of black and red devouring energy, which not only caused great damage, but weakened the enemies' defenses, making them vulnerable to his next attack.
— Minor Skill Absorption: By consuming powerful enemies, he had the chance to temporarily acquire one of their low- or moderate-level skills, which he could use strategically in combat.
In addition, Liam still retained abilities from his previous phase, as a young dragon:
— Devouring Bite: A melee attack with which he could absorb a small portion of the energy of his defeated enemies, recovering some health.
— Minor Regeneration: Every time he consumed an enemy, he regenerated vitality and energy, helping to heal minor wounds.
— Ravenous Instinct: An ability that granted him a slight temporary boost in strength, agility, or stamina for each enemy defeated in combat, giving him a cumulative advantage in long engagements.
These skills made Liam even more effective in the dungeons and combats of Yggdrasil, advancing quickly from mission to mission, feeling increasingly unstoppable.
Over time, Liam quickly rose through the ranks of Yggdrasil, far surpassing other players who had barely reached level 30 or 35. In just six months, he was already level 50, having reached the adult dragon form and unlocked formidable new abilities:
— Complete Devouring: He could now consume his enemies completely, gaining a moderate and permanent increase to his base stats and resistance.
— Evolutionary Adaptation: Each high-level enemy absorbed granted him specific resistances, such as immunity to poison or resistance against a type of damage, strategically improving his defenses.
— Aura of Desolation: Released an energy that weakened nearby enemies, reducing their stamina and speed. Those who fell under the effect of this aura were easier to consume and granted additional benefits.
— Amplified Regeneration: The ability to regenerate health and energy by consuming an enemy was greatly amplified, allowing him to heal serious wounds even in the midst of combat.
During these months, Liam devoted himself to defeating enemies and dungeon bosses, devouring them to acquire skills and classes that expanded his repertoire. Sometimes, he even faced other dragons, absorbing their elemental abilities until he became a true titan in the game, able to manipulate any type of energy to his advantage. Each skill he obtained granted him a tactical advantage, and his power grew so rapidly that his stats seemed impossible to measure at normal levels in the game.
With a triumphant smile, Liam reflected on the power he had achieved. He was the most powerful player in Yggdrasil.
Within the game, a rumor had begun to spread: there was a player who was capable of devouring both other players and any type of monster. If this player devoured you, you would lose some of your skills and a large amount of attribute points, leaving you in such a weak state that you would be forced to start almost from scratch. Many players complained to the administrators, claiming that this player must be a hacker. However, the official response was that this player was operating within the rules of the game and that there was no cheating involved. In the end, resigned players accepted the situation, although the most disturbing thing was that no one knew his name. He had the option to hide his identity activated, and was simply known as "Anonymous" or "the strongest player in the game", with the only information being that he belonged to the Dragon race.
When the beta period ended after six months, the game was officially released. A large number of new players joined, filling all the worlds. In addition, non- heteromorphic races , such as humans and demi-humans , soon discovered that by eliminating players of heteromorphic races , they could gain experience as if they were dealing with common monsters. Unlike the monsters in the game, each time a player was defeated, they would drop a random item, so attacking other players would earn them double the gain.
With the launch, the item shop also opened. Whenever a super rare item appeared, Liam would buy it. He also acquired all kinds of armor and weapons, amassing a vast arsenal. Thanks to his ability to devour classes and races, he had gained a nearly infinite inventory.
At this moment, Liam could be seen walking through the forest where he had his first match when he first started playing Yggdrasil . As he walked forward, his long dragon tail moved with each step, and the huge, leafy treetops blocked out the sunlight, casting shadows across the ground. Liam wore a towering suit of golden armor, along with other adornments of the same color covering his dragon body, radiating a warm, majestic glow. Every piece of his equipment gleamed under the flashes of light filtering through the leaves.
Liam looked around with a restrained joy; even though the game didn't allow for any emotion, he felt excited. "This feels so real… I can even feel the warmth of the sun and the humidity in the air," he thought as he sighed. Then he muttered to himself:
—I thought that when the item shop opened, the item to change appearance would appear, but it is not available yet. In the original story, this item could only be used on NPCs, but… is there a way for me to be able to use it too?
Liam pushed his thoughts aside and looked up, noticing that he was about to leave the forest. As he took the final step, he squinted as the sun shone directly in his face. As his eyes adjusted, he found that he was standing on top of a hill overlooking a stunning landscape of green mountains, filled with vegetation.
On the top of the hill, a female figure with white hair that reached below her waist was looking out over the landscape. She was wearing a simple white knee-length dress, nothing fancy, just a plain, light fabric; however, her body was decorated with silver details and she had wings with white feathers that stood out on her back.
Liam looked at the sword the winged woman was carrying and spoke:
—I see, so you chose the angel sub-race . I had suggested you choose a heteromorphic race, but well, at least the angel sub-race falls into that category. How do you feel, Six?
The woman, now Six, calmly replied:
—I'm fine, Mr. Liam… I was just looking at the scenery.
"I understand, but remember to call me by my game name," Liam said, cracking a smile. "Narkhan."
Six nodded and replied:
—Okay, Mr. Narkhan.
Liam brought his hand to the back of his neck, closed his eyes, sighed deeply, and then opened them again to look at Six. Thoughts and questions swirled through his mind.
"I searched the internet for information about Six's AI, but I found nothing. That surprised me… In the game's description, I read that only those with a human mind could log in. I came up with two theories: the first is that Six could be an AI created by the same being I heard about. That idea was already strange… but the second theory is even more disturbing… could it be that… Six has a human mind?"
"I asked her to join the game, but I never imagined it would actually work. So, the second option is true? She has a human mind? If that's true, then what did the voice being do to this person? Who is Six really? Plus, she doesn't seem to remember anything… No human would stand to be an artificial intelligence, subject to the commands of others. The voice being must have foreseen this outcome, which leaves me wondering… what is it really planning?"
Liam left his thoughts and spoke:
—Six, what type of battle did you choose? And what is your name in the game?
Six turned around and replied:
—Mr. Narkhan, I gave myself the same name: Six. And as for my class, I am a magic caster.
Liam brought his hand to his chin, and a thoughtful emote appeared.
—Hmm ... Magic caster class ? You didn't choose a subclass? —he asked—. Is it possible to choose the full magic caster class?
—Depending on which race you choose, you can access the full class and its subclasses, —Six explained.
"I see," Liam replied, nodding. And then he thought: Now that I think about it, Aniz was a magic caster…
"Inventory," Liam said, and a screen appeared in front of him showing all the items he had. He selected a few and spoke, "Six, accept these; I'll send them to you. Put them on and I'll help you level up. This will be enough, right?"
Waving his hands, Liam transferred the items to Six's inventory, who quickly equipped them. Her new armor had gold and silver details, and over her short skirt fell a longer cloth, reaching down to her ankles. The tall boots, which rose just above her knees, added an imposing touch, combining elegance and strength.
Liam watched her and thought, "Wow, she really knew how to customize her character; she looks great." He snapped out of his thoughts and explained:
—I bought that armor for all classes. It's relic rank, with high stats and no level required, it includes a sword and items to increase mana. My armor, on the other hand, is calamity rank.
Six nodded and asked:
—Where will we go?
—I'll help you get to level 30, then we'll part ways.
After a week, Six was fighting a huge snake in the woods. She moved quickly through the trees while the creature followed closely behind. The snake opened its jaws to devour her, but Six turned in the air and screamed:
—Divine spell: Sword of light!
A large sword of light appeared above her and she lunged straight at the snake, piercing its mouth and cleaving through its head, wiping out its HP. Six stood on a branch and a message appeared in front of Six: "You have reached level 30."
Liam appeared at his side and commented:
—Looks like you've reached level 30. I'm surprised; it didn't take you long.
Six replied:
—It seems that it was faster than I calculated, Mr. Narkhan.
Liam watched Six's precision in combat and thought, "That way of fighting is strange; every hit is accurate, without wasting mana or energy."
Then he spoke:
—It's time to part ways, Six. Are you ready?
"Yes, Mr. Narkhan," Six replied.
—You've already received the names, right? If you meet those people in the future, become their partner if that's what you want, not because of an order from me.
—I understand, sir. I'll do my best.
Liam sighed.
—Be careful with players. They are not always trustworthy.
"Yes, sir," Six said.
—I'm going offline, but you can keep playing —Liam said—. Just don't go over the hour limit, you might get caught.
"Yes, sir," Six replied.
Liam said "disconnect," and a screen appeared in front of him. He selected "OK," and his character disappeared into blue pixels.
As time went on, Liam continued to play, advancing through high-level dungeons alone. His power was so overwhelming that he did not need a team and would take on attacking players effortlessly. Within a year, he became the first player to reach level 100, earning titles for his strength and solo achievements. His dragon race evolved into Primordial Dragon upon reaching max level, after going through stages such as Ancestral Dragon and Divine or Primordial Dragon. As he progressed, new skills were unlocked at level 60:
— Greater Soul Devour: Can consume souls of powerful enemies, gaining permanent increases to key stats.
— Advanced Power Absorption: Temporarily preserves advanced abilities of devoured enemies.
— Partial Primordial Dragon Form: Partially transforms into a primordial dragon, gaining power and speed; the bar for Liam to control his size is gone.
— Endless Regeneration: By consuming powerful enemies, he restores his health almost completely, staying in combat without fatigue.
Upon reaching level 80, unlock ultimate skills:
— Devouring Eternal Existences: Absorbs the essence of mythical beings, gaining exceptional abilities, such as partial immortality.
— Complete Primordial Dragon Form: Its colossal transformation allows it to ravage armies with maximum force.
— Aura of Devastation: Its presence intimidates enemies, weakening their defenses and attacks.
— Cosmic Devourer: Consumes cosmic energy from the environment, restoring health and power, making it an inexhaustible source of destruction.
However, Liam was not the only one to grow stronger. Six had reached level 70, and during this time she lived with several groups to explore dungeons. In one of these raids, she was betrayed by her team, but she did not give up and managed to defeat them, earning the title of "The Angel Who Should Not Have Fallen" and a new race, Fallen Angel, due to her killing of her companions. The skills she acquired were added to those she already possessed, although, outwardly, her appearance remained unchanged.
Six continued on her way; that incident had happened when she was level 35 and she was betrayed by her companions who tried to steal experience from her. Since then, she began to work alone, but her power was not enough to defeat high-level enemies. Despite being an AI, she began to feel frustration and other human emotions. Over time, she found new companions, who, curiously, shared the same indifference towards non-human races. Together they formed the group Nine's Own Goal , known throughout the server.
When Six told Liam about this he was shocked, at this moment they were both in the forest where they had first appeared, sitting on a hill. Six had more advanced armor and larger wings, while Liam's was even more impressive, although his appearance had not changed too much.
Sitting, Liam looked out over the landscape and commented:
—So you found them. You did a good job, Six.
Six, standing beside her, responded excitedly:
—They are amazing, very friendly.
Liam glanced at her, noticing how Six was beginning to show human emotions, and replied in a neutral tone:
—Sure, they must be wonderful people, right?
A smiley emote appeared next to Six's head, who added:
—They are very kind. I would love to spend more time with them.
Liam, in a friendly tone, said to him:
—Tell me, Six, have they asked you what you do for a living or anything like that?
Six thought for a moment and replied:
—I don't think so… why?
"If they ask you," Liam replied, "tell them you're my personal assistant, kind of like my secretary, understand?"
Six nodded and curiously asked:
—Mr. Narkhar , are you not going to join us?
Liam stood up and replied:
—It's not the time yet, but I will do it in the future. I'll let you know when I decide to join.
With that, he began to walk away and, in a carefree tone, said to her:
—See you later, Six. Enjoy the game as much as you can.
As two years passed, Six's group grew rapidly, becoming a powerful guild called Ainz Ooal. Gown . The leader chosen by its members was Momonga, a skeleton of exceptional abilities. Thanks to the coordination and talent of its members, the guild began to grow to be one of the strongest, the most notable members were:
— Momonga - Skeleton
— Touch Me - Angel Warrior
— Ulbert Alain Odle – Demon
— Bukubukuchagama - Slime
— Peroroncino - Birdman
— Tabula Smaragdina - Creator of Abyssal Beings
— Herohero - Slime
— Yamaiko - Humanoid Curator
— Blue Planet - Geography and nature expert
— Ancient One - Primordial God or deity
— Six - Fallen Angel
Each of these members reached level 100, but the guild had more players, a total of 20 members.
Time passed, and after three years since the game's release, Liam was walking through the forest of the world Vanaheim , the realm of magic. His tail moved gracefully as he looked at the ground, immersed in a thought:
—So, I'm finally in this place. I thought there wouldn't be such an item, plus the item rank is unique, but it only works once... the user customization change item. It can only be found here, since it was created by an ancient mage, or so the quest I did says , but well, it's just a matter of claiming the prize in this place.
Liam smiled as he came out of his thoughts and looked up.
"After this, I'll join the guild. It's about time I did it," he said, determined.
He made his way through the forest, following an on-screen map that guided him to a hidden cave. Without stopping, he crossed the threshold, observing the overgrown walls, illuminated only by scattered torches. After a short walk, he came to a wide space where a crystal-clear lake surrounded a small island in the center, and on that island, a chest lay in the center.
