Chapter 14: Chapter 14: The Teachings of Spider-Man Noir
Swish!
Bid's figure swung to the ceiling using his web, performing a quick 180-degree spin in midair, flipping from upside down to right side up, then lightly pushing off the ceiling with his feet and quickly descending.
As he passed the beam where Spider-Man Noir and the others were standing, Bid extended his arms, pressing gently on the beam, and then spun again, landing steadily on top of it.
Clap, clap, clap—
Spider-Ham, Gwen, and Peter B. all clapped their hands.
"That was a pretty good performance!" Gwen exclaimed in admiration.
"Hehe—" Bid smiled shyly, feeling proud of himself.
He felt like he had made rapid progress over the past half hour.
Moreover, his potential was continuously being unlocked.
Super sensitivity, strong balance, improved body coordination, and more, all had been significantly enhanced.
He didn't know why he hadn't noticed it before, but now he was experiencing such rapid changes.
It felt as though a dam that had been closed for so long was suddenly opened, and the floodgates released the water.
Just as Bid was feeling somewhat smug, Spider-Man Noir walked up to him.
His height was similar to Bid's, but when Bid looked into the eyes hidden behind the goggles, he couldn't help but feel shorter.
There was a difference in their presence.
"Looks like you're quite satisfied with your movements?" Spider-Man Noir said in a deep voice.
Bid, confused, asked, "Did I do something wrong? I feel pretty awesome right now. I'm in top form!"
"Heh." Spider-Man Noir sneered. "Unpredictable!"
Suddenly, he extended his fist and slammed it into Bid's chest.
Bid didn't expect such a sudden attack from Spider-Man Noir and took the full blow to the chest.
The beam was very narrow.
After the punch, Bid was knocked off the beam and fell.
It wasn't until he had been falling for half a second that he realized what had happened.
"He attacked me from behind?!!" Bid was a little angry as he stretched out his hand, ready to confront Spider-Man Noir.
But just then, Spider-Man Noir's hand shot out like lightning.
Whoosh—
A strand of webbing flew from his hand, striking Bid's web-shooter, and immediately sticking to it.
Bid was startled and quickly extended his left hand.
He had one web-shooter on each wrist.
However, another strand of webbing flew out, covering his left wrist's web-shooter as well.
Boom!
With two quick strikes, he had completely lost his ability to fight back.
And he had completed his free fall, landing hard on the floor with a cloud of dust.
He hadn't been wearing a mask, so he ended up choking on some dirt.
"Ugh, ugh!"
Bid stood up, spat out the dirt from his mouth, and then rubbed his backside—he had landed flat on his back, and his buttocks still hurt a bit.
"What are you doing?" After taking care of that, he finally had the leisure to look up and question Spider-Man Noir.
Whoosh!
However, instead of an explanation from Spider-Man Noir, he received a kick from above!
Boom!
Bid was kicked again, this time in the chest. The force was heavy, and the kick landed just a few centimeters from his heart.
It made his chest feel tight.
Step—
Spider-Man Noir took a few steps and stood in front of Bid, coldly looking down at him. "With your current abilities, you'll only be a burden to us. What is there to be proud of?"
After saying that, he shot a web at the ceiling and swung away.
"I..."
Bid stared at Spider-Man Noir's retreating figure, opened his mouth, but said nothing.
He had been knocked back into reality.
The sense of pride that came with suddenly gaining powerful abilities, feeling like he could conquer the world, was completely shattered by Spider-Man Noir's punches and kicks.
Now, he felt somewhat ashamed.
"Oh—he seems really angry," Spider-Ham jumped down from the beam and landed next to Bid. "I've got a hot dog here that Aunt May made for me extra. Do you want half? You could take it to apologize. It's cold, but it still tastes really good."
"Thanks, but no need," Bid grumbled. "I'll go apologize on my own."
Gwen and Peter B. also jumped down.
Peter B. comforted him, "Don't worry, you've done well. But when facing an enemy, we must stay as alert as possible. Never let arrogance take over, or it'll lead to harm—for both others and ourselves."
Although he knew Bid probably didn't appreciate being lectured at this moment, Peter B. still felt it was necessary to say it.
He certainly didn't want Bid to get killed because of this!
Bid nodded seriously, saying sincerely, "I understand. I know you all mean well, and I'll remember this."
Peter B. smiled and extended his hand.
Bid shook his hand, and Peter B. pulled him up.
He dusted him off, smiling, "Alright, now that we've got that settled, let's head back."
At that moment, Gwen walked up to him.
But instead of lecturing him like the two Peters, she said to Bid, "Actually, a lot of your movements are quite practical. It's just that some of them are a bit too flashy. You could try cutting out the unnecessary ones."
Bid nodded.
Those movements were naturally practical.
The games he had played, though using special effects and robots to assist, still had quite a few moves that were designed with logic and practicality in mind, so they had reference value.
However, it was only "reference."
In the eyes of a true Spider-Man, these movements seemed far too flamboyant.
Especially for a practical Spider-Man like Spider-Man Noir, Bid's moves looked almost clownish.
And yet, Bid had been proud of them.
That was why Spider-Man Noir was angry!
"However, some of your moves are a bit like dance moves, like that aerial spin. It's kind of like ballet," Gwen said. "Did you ever study ballet?"
Bid froze.
That move was something used in the game to "gather energy." Performing high-difficulty spins in midair could accumulate "energy" to release skills in the game.
Most experienced players would gather it while traveling, so they could use it more conveniently in battle.
But in reality, there was no "energy," so that move was just a flashy, useless action.
"No, no, I mean, do you believe it was Taekwondo?"
"Oh, it kind of does look like that."
Gwen seemed thoughtful.
Then, the group left the abandoned warehouse and walked toward Aunt May's house.
Before they even reached the door, they heard a panicked voice from Miles:
"Listen to me, I've discovered a huge secret! My uncle, my uncle Aaron, is actually the Prowler!"
