A bright white light capable of blinding weak eyes on first meeting. The distinct beeping and crisp clean air. Alycia met her awakening to a stinging migraine. A heave of confusion hit her upon realising where she was. "Ms. Bella Your awake." a white woman who stood under the door frame looking to be in her late 20's, wearing a white knee-lengthed doctors coat, she held a transparent clipboard by her side and a stethoscope resting around her collar. "How are you feeling?" And with a face full of confusion, Alycia remained quite as mother's words trotted through her head "speak to no one you do not know of, for the devil replicates himself in many forms" she recalled mother in the very same tone repeated time and time again. "Alycia?" Dr Lewis called. "I know you're confused possibly scared and definitely in pain but I'm here to assist-" placing her clipboard down on the side table of the hospital bed, she took a seat on the chair beside the bed "My name is Doctor Lewis." She confessed with a small grin molded on her face. "Does she hate me ?" Were the only words lingering in her thoughts. A stray tear streamed the right side of her squint looking eyes. Dr. Lewis face softened and a deep sigh escaped her lips, "Who might you be referring to ?" Alycia's gaze toward the young doctor was redirected toward the ceiling that was facing her. She recalled the physical struggle she faced at the hands of her mother but nothing else after that until this moment. "I'm such a disgrace, she hates me, If she didn't she would be here." At that point Alycia restricted no emotion and released a flood of tears, allowing them to streaming down the side of her face. "Alycia, I need you to calm down I'm here to help, tell me who did this to you?" Radiating a substantial amount of concern which she always illustrated for the thousands of patients she'd came across was presently directed towards Alycia. "How did I get here?" Alycia urged, disregarding Dr. Lewis's entire question. "Well a woman, or your neighbor rather, contacted emergency services-" she clarified very promptly to retort back to her still unanswered question, "Alycia, what happened to you? Who did this to you? Do you remember?" Slowly taking her gaze away from the ceiling, she looked directly into the Doctor's eyes, with her bruised face clouded with tears, fear, and self- resentment. "It's all my fault, I snuck out to dwell in the devils time of day, I drank his nector that's why mama hates me, I deserve to be here." she responded in between stutters and sniffles. "Your mother did this to you?" Dr. Lewis clarified whilst taking notes of the account Alycia was giving. "Yes, but it wasn't her fault." Alycia abruptly added. Without a word, the doctor nodded before getting onto her feet, "I'll be back in a minute" and with that said, she was out the door and sauntered towards the floors front desk. "Janice, how soon will police be here regarding Ms. Bella's case, seems like a child abuse crisis." She started off, Placing her clipboard on the desk and inking words onto one of the many blank template pages and forms without lifting her head to glimpse at the middle aged nurse behind the desk. "You make it so obvious that you haven't been here long enough" she replied. Scrunching her face, Debbie looked in Janice's direction as if to physically express her confusion. "What do you mean?"
A short silence, then a sigh.
"I mean, I've been working here for 12 years and that girl been in and out these doors more than you can count" Janice answered nonchalantly with her eyes glued to the computer screen, while Debbie on the other hands was now intrigued to know more.
"Well haven't police looked into it or something?" She questioned, fixing her eyes onto her.
"Of course they have, my gut tells me they know very well her mother is the reason why she's always here but there's just not enough evidence especially when her excuse is usually that it was an accident although she sometimes did tell the truth, previous doctors were told by her mother that she's a troublesome kid who's always seeking attention and the girl went with it" Janice clarified the matter, leaving the young doctor speechless and deep in thought. "Alright, thanks Jane" was all she said before heading off to attend to the next patient. Alycia on the other hand was becoming more and more irrationally paranoid, not once taking notice of the physical state she was in. Her body marked with scars, most able to heal and fade over time while others would be permanent memories along with purplish blue bruises all over her body and on her left eye. She quickened her body up straight when she heard the door open, thinking nothing but the worst. Relaxing her tensed muscles she watched Revrand Jones enter with a smile. "Good news, they said they don't see a reason for you to stay-" standing beside the bed with a black Bible in his grip, fully clothed in the only outfit he'd been seen in. "Their letting you go this afternoon" Alycia only shot 2 quick glances at him simply to notice if he was looking at her in the disgusting manner in which she felt. "O-okay" she stuttered she dreaded hearing those words as they continued to mentally replay themselves. Her greatest fear was being in the presents of her mother. The thought of, "how is she going to look at me? Would she even care to look at me ? Will she make sure to kill me this time ?" Everything was out of her control and all she could do at that point was place everything in the hands of God.
