Chapter 42: Chapter 42:God Aura!
Arceus sat gracefully beside the golden tree with silver fruits, its luminous presence radiating tranquility and power. Ace sat across from it in the gold chair Arceus had just conjured, shifting uncomfortably as the weight of the conversation loomed over him. His gaze flicked between the shimmering environment and Arceus, trying to suppress the nervous energy bubbling within him.
Arceus's voice resonated deeply, echoing across the ethereal dimension. "The one that refer to itself as the 'Death God'... he managed to infiltrate the Pokémon world during my deep slumber. His presence was like a poison that seeped into this realm, corrupting the natural balance."
Ace frowned, his hands tightening into fists. He leaned forward slightly. "So he really slipped in while you were... asleep? And Null... that thing. What exactly is it?"
Arceus's gaze turned distant, as if recalling painful memories. "Null is an abomination. A Pokémon crafted by fusing the body parts of numerous strong Pokémon. Specifically, those of the dark, dragon, and fire types."
Ace's fists slammed against the armrests of his chair. His voice was laced with anger as he blurted, "Why kill all those innocent Pokémon?! They didn't deserve to be butchered for some twisted experiment!"
Arceus let out a heavy sigh, its gaze dropping to the ground. "While the 'Death God' created the body of Null, it lacked a soul. To bring life to such a monstrosity, he used his powers... or as you call it, 'golden finger.' I recall hearing those words in your thoughts during our battle with Null's fragment."
Ace's jaw clenched, and his eyes narrowed dangerously. He muttered under his breath, "That lunatic... he must've used his ability to copy powers from the dead Pokémon he killed to get their souls. Or worse, maybe he replicated some ancient techniques—like the methods used to create Spiritomb by sealing countless souls into one vessel."
Arceus nodded solemnly. "It is likely he employed such dark and forbidden practices. Null's soul was forged from the remnants of others, a patchwork of anguish and suffering."
Ace leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair in frustration. 'This guy isn't just a madman; he's a full-blown psychopath. A monster who doesn't even flinch at destroying lives for his ambitions.' He exhaled sharply, trying to calm himself before asking, "And the seal? The one you used to trap him and Null... will it hold?"
Arceus was silent for a moment before speaking gravely, "The time-space seal that binds him is strong—strong enough to last for eternity under normal circumstances. However..."
Ace's heart sank. "However?"
Arceus's eyes gleamed with a mix of anger and determination. "It is beginning to show signs of cracking. His relentless power, coupled with Null's efforts and it sending it's soul shards to attack me, is weakening it. From my calculations, the seal will shatter in approximately three years."
Ace shot up from his seat, his face pale with shock. "Three years? That's all the time we have?"
"Yes," Arceus confirmed, rising to its feet as well. Its voice grew softer but carried immense weight. "Three years. That is the time you have to master the powers within you. If you fail, the destruction this 'Death God' and Null will bring could annihilate not only the peace between humans and Pokémon but the world itself."
Ace stared at the ground, his mind racing. 'Three years to prepare for a fight against someone who managed to challenge Arceus and survive? That's insane! But...' He looked up, his expression firming with resolve. "I'll do it. I'll train harder than ever before. If it means protecting this world and everyone in it, I'll fight that lunatic and put an end to his madness."
Arceus's gaze softened slightly, and it gave a slow, approving nod. "I will assist you in any way I can. Should you ever require guidance, I will lend you my power. When the time comes, I will also stand by your side to confront him."
Smeargle, who had been quiet, suddenly barked loudly, standing beside Ace and wagging its tail. It growled determinedly at Arceus, as if declaring, 'Don't count me out! I'll beat that black flame dragon freak myself!'
Ace chuckled, patting Smeargle's head. "Heh, looks like Smeargle's ready for the fight too." His tone then turned serious as he stared at Arceus. "But I still can't believe someone would go so far to create something like Null... That 'Death God' wannabe must be delusional—like a guy who never grew out of his Chūnibyō phase."
Arceus tilted its head slightly, curious. "Chūnibyō?"
Ace waved it off with a smirk. "It's... let's just say it's when someone thinks they're the protagonist of some edgy fantasy and act like a total idiot because of it."
Arceus's eyes closed for a moment, perhaps in amusement or confusion, before it said, "Regardless of his delusions, his actions have caused great harm. I ask you once more, Ace. Will you stand by me to protect this world?"
Ace straightened his back, his eyes blazing with determination. "I won't just stand by you. I'll lead the charge. You have my word, Arceus—I'll do whatever it takes to stop him."
The god of Pokémon inclined its head in gratitude, its shimmering aura intensifying. "Then we shall begin preparing you. For the fate of this world rests on your shoulders."
Arceus closed its eyes, the golden ring on its body pulsing faintly before its gaze focused once more on Ace. A golden orb of energy began to materialize in front of it, radiating a warmth that filled the space around them. Ace's eyes widened at the sight, the sheer brilliance of the orb captivating him.
"What... what is that?" Ace asked, his voice a mix of curiosity and awe as he stared at the floating golden sphere.
Arceus remained silent at first, turning its attention to the golden tree. Using its divine powers, another silver fruit was gently plucked from the tree's branches and floated toward them. The fruit glimmered faintly as it stopped beside the golden orb.
The orb of energy suddenly surged forward, merging seamlessly into the silver fruit. As the energy infused it, the fruit began to glow with a golden hue, its surface shimmering as though it were made of liquid light.
Arceus looked at Ace and finally spoke, "This will help you and Smeargle on your journey."
Ace blinked, tearing his gaze away from the fruit to meet Arceus's eyes. "Help us? But how? What exactly is it?"
Arceus chuckled softly, its deep voice echoing across the golden dimension. "First, let me ask you, Ace. Do you know what truly makes legendary and mythical Pokémon different from ordinary Pokémon?"
Ace frowned, the gears in his mind turning as he thought about the countless books and legends he'd studied. "Isn't it... their power? Legendary and mythical Pokémon are hundreds of times stronger than regular Pokémon. I mean, look at you—you're the god of the Pokémon world, and you're a mythical Pokémon. That's what sets you apart, right?"
Arceus let out a soft laugh, shaking its head. "That is the view of humans. But for Pokémon, the truth is far deeper."
Ace tilted his head, curiosity piqued. "Deeper?"
Arceus nodded, its tone becoming instructive. "All Pokémon, regardless of their species, rely on an energy you humans call 'aura.' This aura flows through them, enabling their abilities, their moves, and even their existence itself. For example, the Pikachu who accompanies the aura guardian you know as Ash Ketchum uses an aura that is of the lightning type."
Ace's eyes widened as he absorbed this revelation. "Wait... aura has types? That's why Pokémon have types like fire, water, and grass?"
"Precisely," Arceus confirmed. "A Pokémon's type reflects the nature of their aura. While most Pokémon can have one or two aura types, some, like your Smeargle, are unique. Despite being a Normal-type Pokémon, Smeargle can replicate and use moves of any aura type, demonstrating the flexibility of its kind."
Ace leaned back slightly, processing the implications. 'So aura is the foundation of everything. It explains so much about why Pokémon have types and why their moves are categorized the way they are. But... why does this feel like something straight out of Dragon Ball Super?'
Arceus's voice interrupted his thoughts, as if knowing everything Ace knows. "Your comparison is not far from the truth. What separates legendary and mythical Pokémon from ordinary ones is their use of a higher form of aura—what we call 'God aura.'"
Ace's jaw dropped. "God aura? So that's why legendary and mythical Pokémon are so insanely powerful?"
His thoughts raced as his mind jumped to the anime he loved. 'Normal aura and God aura... It's like the concept of normal ki and God ki. Goku's transformation into Super Saiyan Blue came from merging God ki with his regular Super Saiyan form. Could it really be similar here? Legendary and mythical Pokémon using God aura while regular Pokémon stick to normal aura?'
"Correct," Arceus said, gesturing toward the glowing fruit. "This fruit now contains a fragment of my own God aura. I wish to bestow it upon Smeargle. With this, your Smeargle will gain the potential to harness God aura. Not only will this make it stronger than most legendary Pokémon with intense training and dedication, but it will also prepare it for the battles ahead. When the time comes for you, me, and your Pokémon to face Null and the 'Death God,' Smeargle will be ready."
Ace's throat tightened as he glanced at the glowing fruit, then at Smeargle, who was staring at it with wide, awestruck eyes. "Are you serious?" Ace asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Arceus inclined its head. "I am entrusting this power to you both. Will you accept it?"
Ace swallowed hard, the weight of the decision pressing on him. He turned to Smeargle, who barked excitedly, its tail wagging as it nodded fervently. A small smile tugged at Ace's lips. "Alright," he said, reaching out and taking the fruit in his hands. He turned back to Arceus. "Thank you. I promise we won't waste this gift."
Arceus gave a solemn nod as Ace handed the fruit to Smeargle. Without hesitation, Smeargle devoured it in a few bites. The moment it finished, a brilliant golden aura erupted around it, swirling and crackling with divine energy before being absorbed into its body.
Smeargle wobbled on its feet before collapsing to the ground, unconscious.
"Smeargle!" Ace shouted, dropping to his knees beside his partner. He looked up at Arceus, panic flashing in his eyes. "What happened to it?! Did something go wrong?"
Arceus chuckled softly, its voice calm and reassuring. "Do not worry. Both you and Smeargle exist here only as souls. Your physical bodies remain in the Pokémon world, and Smeargle is merely adapting to the power it has received. You will both awaken shortly."
Ace let out a shaky breath, relief washing over him. "Alright... If you say so."
Arceus stepped closer, its towering form casting a protective shadow over Ace and Smeargle. "We shall meet again, Ace. Until then, prepare yourself. The road ahead will not be easy."
Before Ace could respond, his body began to glow, the radiant light consuming him as his surroundings faded away.
Ace groggily opened his eyes, the dim light of a hospital room greeting him. He sat up slowly, wincing as his muscles protested. From the window, he could see the moon shining brightly in the night sky.
He stretched, trying to shake off the soreness as his mind replayed the conversation with Arceus. 'Three years... That's all the time we have. I'll get stronger. I'll make sure we're ready.'
His gaze fixed on the moon, his white hair catching the faint light. His blue eyes shimmered for a moment, shifting into a rainbow hue before returning to normal. A smirk played on his lips as a single thought echoed in his mind.
'Wait for me, you stupid Chūnibyō Death God wannabe.'
