At 1:45 PM, Sato, with a pain-relief patch stuck on his nose, emerged from a small restaurant.
Knowing that the afternoon session at the Metagross Auction wouldn't feature anything he desired, he decided against returning there and instead headed to nearby shops to hunt for treasures.
Currently, Sato had about 6.3 million PokeDollars remaining, which wasn't enough to purchase high-end TM discs like Ice Beam or Flamethrower. Therefore, he lowered his expectations, focusing on mid-tier TMs such as Rock Tomb, Fire Spin, and Agility.
After wandering around the central area of the free trade zone for over half an hour, Sato finally found a Fire Spin TM in a shop selling scattered TMs.
These discs are typically produced by powerful organizations with the technology to make them, making them difficult to acquire.
Even within these organizations, members usually need significant status and contribution points to obtain them. Consequently, the prices of TMs in the open market tend to be high.
Compared to Icy Wind, which he obtained from a smaller auction, Fire Spin—capable of trapping and dealing sustained damage to foes—was undoubtedly more valuable.
After an intense bargaining session, Sato managed to purchase the Fire Spin TM from the shopkeeper for 5.2 million PokeDollars.
Having spent a significant amount again on a TM, Sato left the Trainer Market due to a lack of funds and proceeded to a high-end Pokémon training facility to begin the afternoon's skill training.
Golbat had already mastered several powerful ranged moves: Tailwind, Air Cutter, Shadow Ball, and Hidden Power - Electric-type. Sato decided it was time to enhance Golbat's close-combat abilities.
Steel Wing was the primary close-range move Golbat was working on.
From his battle experience, Sato observed that the move was effective not only for offense but also as a solid defensive technique.
When Golbat used Steel Wing, his wide wings were coated with a layer of white light, giving them a metallic sheen. The wings became broader and sharper, as evidenced by the shallow scratches he left on a steel pole with each strike.
The essence of Steel Wing lies in channeling Steel-type energy into the wings, temporarily hardening and sharpening them. Golbat could then use the wings' edges for slashing attacks or defensively shield against physical moves.
Golbat's mastery of Steel Wing was somewhere between beginner and proficient, as indicated by the duration he could maintain the move.
Bellossom was practicing a new dance. This dance appeared light and erratic, causing onlookers to feel dizzy just by watching.
The move, Teeter Dance, was recently learned through a TM, which Sato had acquired from Mary, a person he regarded as eccentric.
With Quiver Dance, Swords Dance, Petal Dance, and now Teeter Dance, Bellossom had mastered one of the four significant dance moves. Unfortunately, Teeter Dance had the least utility of the four, serving primarily to confuse opponents.
However, its area-of-effect nature was valuable. If Bellossom could fully master the move and use it instinctively in battles, it would act as a confusion aura, disorienting any enemy with insufficient mental resilience.
For now, Bellossom was still in the learning phase, far from using Teeter Dance naturally in combat.
Nidoran was performing psychic exercises with a 5kg dumbbell. His level-up had significantly improved his physical condition, and as his brain developed further, he could harness more potent psychic energy.
In battles, Nidoran had learned to use Confusion as a supplementary move, enhancing both close and ranged attacks.
During close combat, he used telekinesis to momentarily restrain opponents, creating openings to land hits. For ranged moves, he adjusted the trajectory mid-flight to improve accuracy.
As his psychic power grew, Sato believed that Confusion would become one of Nidoran's core abilities.
Having learned Fire Spin through a TM, Growlithe now had a new ranged attack. His mastery over Fire-type energy allowed him to quickly grasp the move.
A swirling flame shot from his mouth, expanding rapidly to form a vortex of fire in a designated area. The vortex lasted only about 25–30 seconds due to insufficient energy and structural stability.
Despite his natural Flash Fire ability enhancing his control over Fire-type energy, the size of the vortex was currently limited to a two-meter radius.
With high-quality PokeBlocks as sustenance and no concerns about burning down the facility, Growlithe could train freely, progressing rapidly.
Marshtomp, too, was honing a new TM move: Icy Wind.
A frosty blue current streamed from his mouth, drastically lowering the temperature in its path and leaving a layer of frost on anything it touched.
Much like his instinctive mastery of Ice Punch, Marshtomp showed talent for Ice-type moves. After about a hundred practice attempts, he had essentially become adept at using Icy Wind.
Now, he was focusing on expanding its area of effect rather than increasing its damage output.
Sato didn't aim for Icy Wind to be a heavy-hitting move but rather a strong disruptive tool. Marshtomp needed only to focus on enhancing its range, which simplified the training process.
After much deliberation, Sato decided to use the Mutated Supreme Sky Splitting Stone on his shiny Wingull.
Rather than swallowing it like Marshtomp did, he disguised the stone with black dye and had it embedded into a durable tungsten-steel necklace from a jeweler.
Now wearing the necklace, Wingull's flight speed had skyrocketed.
While adapting to its increased speed, it was also training its Water Gun using moving targets.
Sato planned to develop Wingull into a mobile artillery unit, mastering Water-type ranged moves such as Water Gun, Water Pulse, Brine, Scald, and eventually Hydro Pump.
As for Ditto and his shiny Wurmple, Ditto continued practicing transformations into Pelipper, while Wurmple enjoyed a life of leisure.
Once Sato removed Wurmple's Everstone necklace, it evolved into Silcoon within two hours. Much to Sato's relief, it was the form he had hoped for.
"Looks do matter, after all," Sato thought with satisfaction.
