Chapter 55: Chapter 55: Celadon Gym
"I want to hold your hand like this and never let go."
"Love can't be simple without hurt."
"You... lean on my shoulder."
"You... sleep in my arms."
"A life like this... I love you... you love me...!"
As the song ended, Gary took a deep breath and whispered to himself, "Jay, I'm sorry."
Clap! Clap! Clap!
Applause echoed from all around them.
"Brother, you sang really well! Sing another one!"
"Yeah, please sing again! It was so beautiful!"
The onlookers were clearly not satisfied with just one song. They wanted to hear more, and it was the first time they had heard this song.
"Thank you for your support, but I can't sing another song today. I have something else to do," Gary said as he handed the electric guitar back to Brock.
He then recalled his Pokémon, took Sabrina's hand, and began to leave.
"Wow, they're holding hands! How romantic!" A few young girls in the crowd whispered, clearly excited.
Gary felt a bit nervous. These young girls were so easily stirred up by something as simple as holding hands. He couldn't help but think that if one of them were to get slapped in the face, she might faint from the shock.
Back at the Pokémon Center, Sabrina was completely lost in thought. She hadn't expected Gary to sing such a heartfelt song. Every time she listened to it, it felt like Gary was confessing to her. Although Sabrina liked Gary, they hadn't known each other for long. The fact that Gary had only sung a song and not actually confessed left her confused about how to proceed in their relationship.
Sabrina felt a rush of emotions she couldn't quite understand. She immediately pulled her hand away from Gary's grasp.
"Gary, what do you mean by all this?" Sabrina asked, her tone uncertain.
Gary, seeing Sabrina pull away, answered her question calmly, "It's meaningless."
"What about the song you sang then?" she pressed, her eyebrows furrowing slightly.
Gary smiled softly. "That song was for you."
Sabrina's face flushed, and she felt both embarrassed and irritated. She didn't know how to respond, but she felt her emotions welling up inside her. She was angry, but at the same time, she was unsure about how to deal with the situation.
"Hmph!" Sabrina snorted, turning her back to Gary and walking away without saying another word.
Gary watched Sabrina walk off, a chuckle escaping him. How could he, someone who had lived two lives, not understand what was going on? Sabrina, the cold and distant beauty, was clearly struggling with her feelings. Despite her attempts to hide it, Gary could tell she was hoping for a more direct answer. But Gary wasn't in a rush to give it to her. He found it more fun this way, especially when it came to someone like Sabrina. If he rushed into a confession, he was sure she would turn him into a doll and imprison him for life.
The next morning, Sabrina had returned to her usual aloof self and didn't mention the previous day's events. She happily followed Gary to one of the most famous perfume shops in Celadon City.
Celadon Gym Specialty Store.
When they arrived at the perfume shop, the friendly waitress immediately greeted them, noticing Sabrina first.
"Welcome! Are you here to buy some perfume? Our scents are soothing and non-dizzying, perfect for calming your mind," the waitress said enthusiastically.
Sabrina glanced at Gary. "Gary, what kind of scent do you like?" she asked, her voice soft.
The waitress raised an eyebrow in surprise. She noticed Gary, but since he was obviously younger than Sabrina, she didn't assume they were a couple. Instead, she thought they might be siblings. However, when a girl asks a boy what kind of perfume he likes, the implication was clear.
"Are young girls these days starting to like younger boys?" the waitress thought to herself, puzzled.
Gary smiled. "I don't know much about perfumes. Let's leave it to the expert here to recommend a couple."
Sabrina nodded. "Okay, I'll leave it to you," she said.
The waitress, eager to help, quickly brought forward two popular perfumes in the store: one with an aromatic herbal scent and the other with a calming agarwood fragrance. Both perfumes were known for their soothing qualities.
Gary was not initially interested in perfumes, but as he inhaled the calming aromas, he felt a sense of peace wash over him. It was incredible how effective these perfumes were. He marveled at how extraordinary Pokémon could create such items. If this perfume were to exist in his previous life, its value would be no less than the rare agarwood derived from rhino horns.
After making the purchase, which cost 20,000 yuan in total for both bottles, Gary smiled. "Thank you for the recommendation."
With the perfume secured, Gary turned to Sabrina. "Now, let's head to the Celadon Gym."
They made their way to the Celadon Gym, where Gary planned to challenge the gym leader, Erika. He also had plans to visit the arcade afterward, a place that was known to be a front for Team Rocket's activities.
At the arcade in the FireRed/LeafGreen games, Team Rocket had captured rare Pokémon and placed them there as prizes for gamblers. The arcade had become a popular spot, attracting many people eager to try their luck at winning these rare Pokémon.
When they arrived at the Celadon Gym, the massive building caught Gary's attention. It was designed to resemble Vileplume's corolla, making it a recognizable landmark in Celadon City. The gym housed not only a battle arena but also a botanical garden for grass-type Pokémon to thrive in.
As Gary walked toward the entrance, he marveled at the glass walls. The use of glass allowed sunlight to pour into the building, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere.
"I've heard that Erika, the gym leader, sometimes gives classes to children in the afternoon. If we're late, we might have to wait until tomorrow to challenge her," a voice interrupted Gary's thoughts.
The waitress from the perfume shop had followed them to the gym's entrance. "You should hurry if you want to challenge her today," she advised.
Gary thanked her, and he and Sabrina quickly made their way inside, ready for the challenge that awaited them.
With a gym battle on the horizon and a visit to Team Rocket's arcade in the works, Celadon City was about to offer Gary and Sabrina an adventure full of surprises
