Chapter 20: Infiltrate
"What… do we do?" Rina asked quietly, no longer as confident as before.
She was initially scared but had also been trained in firearms like Kaizer. Just like how Kaizer could somewhat calmly respond to Carla's attack and even take out a gun to try his luck, Rina was also secretly armed and ready to use it.
However, what she had just witnessed cleared her mind of all heroic thoughts. These armed men were not a bunch of ragtag idealistic idiots who wanted to spread a message after being armed by a secret force. These were cold-blooded and highly efficient killers who were hellbent on achieving their goal, refusing any distraction no matter how sweet.
You see, whether intentional or not, most women had the knowledge and understanding of a certain 'way out' in fatal situations, especially when dealing with men. It was not preferable, it was not desirable, and it definitely was not tolerable.
…but it was a way out.
When one's life is truly threatened and fear engulfs their spirit, unwilling to die a gruesome death, anything can be agreed to. However, Rina had just received 100% accurate confirmation that such a last resort was not on the table, so there was only the cold embrace of death should she make one mistake.
Franco's brow furrowed. "We simply cannot fight. Between the three of us, there are not enough bullets to take down all our foes, assuming that we possess godly accuracy to penetrate their combat armor and strike the head or heart with only one shot."
Raul did a mag check on the spot and nodded in agreement. Rina did not yet reveal that she too was armed, as this was not only protection from their assailants but also protection from these two should anything go wrong.
Suddenly, the faces of the trio changed as they heard rapid footsteps coming from the end of the hallway in which they came from, followed by gunshots and screams. Clearly, the enemy had begun to methodically clear out this department building and would soon reach where they were located.
"Move!" Franco said forcefully under his breath, causing their group to quickly continue down the hallway while trying to minimize noise.
Rina especially had to make sure that her boots did not create a sound as she jogged forward, which caused her to feel a slight strain. They rushed towards the rooftop access door because there simply was no way to charge downwards and escape the campus while it was in this state.
They could only go up and hope to make some sort of final stand on the roof with limited access while waiting for rescuers.
As Rina closed the door behind them and locked it, she stepped back twice, wondering if she might actually live to see the next day.
...…
Kaizer reached the eastern wall of the campus, which was in the direction of the old industrial area, leaping over the wall to land in a patch of grass. However, his expression was grim as he realized that this grass, which was a minor lawn, was now soaked with blood and mush.
Looking up, all he could see were fires, smoke, and carnage — no building left intact on this side of the campus at all. Even worse, there was the sound of screaming at the edge of his hearing, as well as the sound of gunshots.
However, these were just the details his basic senses gave him. His telesthesia reported that within its range of 100 meters, there was a group of armed men in a squad who were about to pass by as they were going to check another building to his left.
Kaizer remained in a crouched position and did not foolishly rush out to engage them. His psychic abilities were strong, but he was not sure that they were strong enough to resist bullets or stop them. On his way here, he had formed some preliminary plans to deal with armed men using his ability, and now was the time to put them to use.
Kaizer lifted a stone block that had been dislodged from one of the buildings and sent it flying, striking the backs of the heads of two of the armed men and causing their skulls to dent inward slightly. The remaining three were shocked and panicked slightly, thinking that there was an enemy shooter around, so they began firing haphazardly.
His eyes glinting, Kaizer split the stone block into two and used each half to strike two more of the group, causing them to scream in pain as they fell to the ground, out cold. Their helmets did not give them any protection against this kind of attack, which defied common sense.
For the final one, Kaizer yanked his assault rifle from his hand and tossed it far away, also telekinetically frisking his body to remove the assortment of sub-weaponry he possessed, including two Colt pistols, a Swiss Army knife, and a switchblade.
The fellow, now rendered weaponless, panicked and fell onto his ass, as he had not even seen hide nor hair of his attacker this whole time, making his fear spike crazily as he did not know or understand what was going on.
Kaizer still did not leave his hiding place, instead using his telekinesis to remove the fellow's helmet and taking some clothing from a nearby office to tie him up by the neck and lift him from the ground. As the fellow hung in mid-air, gasping for air, Kaizer's voice suddenly emerged.
"Have you found the location of a female flanked by two bodyguards?"
Hearing that the voice was a young man, the struggling operator was shocked, then clammed up immediately as he feared the force that gathered him here more than whatever this young man could do. After all, this young man had not killed him or his comrades, only severely incapacitated them with grave injuries.
A young brat who had not crossed that line — even if he had some strange methods — was not enough to— Krrrk!
Kaizer struck the fellow with a stone and knocked him out cold before tossing his body to the same area as his squad. The moment he had asked the question, the fellow's mind had recalled an order from their superior to hunt down a woman with two bodyguards in the Sophomore Dormitory.
Kaizer was already in the area, and the dormitory should be about 500 meters or more away from where he was, so he began to move cautiously while relying on his telesthesia and telepathy to sense for danger around him.
As it were, he might seem strong, but a shot from a sniper rifle aimed at his head and he would die like any other person. Given that a skilled sniper could operate from ranges beyond a hundred meters, his telesthesia was not all-powerful.
In close combat, it was overpowered. Against long-distance danger, though…
Still, it depended on how it was used. If Kaizer swaggered through the campus arrogantly as if he were an omnipotent god, then it was likely that he might face such a fate, but sticking to the shadows while carefully scanning all danger points drastically reduced this outcome.
