Chapter 125: Chapter 125: Decision
"I see..."
"Yes, Aizawa-sensei asked us to inform you when he sent us here," replied the class rep.
Although it was currently summer vacation, the recent incident had shocked society and dominated the news. Being at the center of the event, U.A. High School was under intense scrutiny.
Within a week of rescuing Midoriya Izuku, U.A. implemented countermeasures. To prepare for future situations like the Forest Training Camp raid by the League of Villains, the school decided to adopt a boarding system.
Of course, this was the official reason given to the students. In reality, the school aimed to uncover the League of Villains' spy among them. This required investigating the students discreetly.
"Aizawa-sensei and All Might will be visiting students' homes tomorrow, so we were asked to inform you in advance."
"Got it..."
Midoriya Izuku replied absentmindedly to Iida Tenya's explanation. The others clearly noticed his distracted state.
"That's all for today. We'll take our leave now."
"Wait, I still have a lot to say... Ugh!"
Todoroki Shoto, who stood to leave, was abruptly silenced by Takeyama Urei, who covered his mouth and dragged him toward the door.
"Midoriya-chan~~ See you! Get well soon!"
"Um—Midoriya, we'll be going now!"
Seeing the others already heading to the door, Uraraka Ochako hurriedly said goodbye and followed them out.
"Midoriya, the rest of the class couldn't come, but everyone's very worried about you..."
Iida Tenya bowed respectfully as he spoke on behalf of their classmates, expressing their concern for Midoriya Izuku.
"Tch... Hurry up and recover..."
Bakugo Katsuki muttered under his breath before turning and leaving without looking back.
As Midoriya watched them leave, he silently thought to himself. At last, he made his decision.
---
"Sigh... Where did everyone go?"
Midoriya's mother returned to the living room, holding tea and snacks, only to find her son sitting there alone.
---
The next day, All Might and Aizawa Shouta began their home visits. Aizawa handled the easier families on his own since All Might's current form wasn't suitable for meeting people. For the more difficult families, All Might had to transform and personally negotiate.
"All Might, you bastard, you're not welcome here!"
"Aw, don't be like that. I'm your kid's teacher now."
As expected, trouble arose during Todoroki Shoto's home visit. All Might was stopped at the door by Endeavor, who refused to let him take a single step inside.
"I've already agreed to Shoto staying at the dorms. Now get lost!"
"Uh...? Well, in that case, could you just sign this agreement?"
All Might found Endeavor's cooperation unusually easy today. He had expected to put in much more effort to convince him. Still, it worked out well this way.
"Dad, should we put this thing in the storage room?"
"Why would we take it down and put it in storage? It's been hanging in the living room just fine."
Todoroki Shoto's older brother and sister—Endeavor's son and daughter—were carrying a massive wall hanging as they passed by the doorway, asking their father for his opinion on the sudden rearrangement.
"..."
"..."
Both of them stayed silent. All Might saw what they were holding, and Endeavor turned around like a machine.
What Todoroki Shoto's siblings were carrying was a giant portrait of All Might's smiling face. Not only that, it was a rare collector's item with only a few copies ever made—something Midoriya Izuku had been envious of for ages. Unfortunately, it was something only the rich could afford.
"Ahem… Pfft…"
Sensing the awkward situation, All Might quickly brought a hand to his mouth, pretending to cough. But the faint "pfft" sound betrayed him—he was stifling a laugh.
"Get out!!!"
Flames erupted all over Endeavor's body as he crushed the pen in his hand. Without hesitation, he swung a fiery punch at All Might, his face twisted with a murderous expression that seemed ready to silence him forever.
"S-Sorry!!"
All Might dodged the fiery punch with a quick roll, scrambled into a car, and urgently told Aizawa Shouta to drive. If they didn't leave now, he might actually get taken out.
Watching Endeavor, whose flames were so intense they were about to set his own house on fire, All Might felt a mix of relief and lingering fear. Still… he couldn't help but chuckle.
"Let Todoroki bring over the signed agreement… pfft…"
Next up was the home visit to Bakugo Katsuki's house. All Might stayed in his powered-up form. After wrapping up this visit, he planned to head to Midoriya's home.
"No problem at all! Please, do your best to teach this troublemaker a lesson!"
Bakugo's mom, Bakugo Mitsuki, slapped the back of her son's head as she readily agreed to the boarding school proposal from U.A. High.
"You old hag! What was that for?!"
"Who are you calling an old hag? If you were even half as obedient as Midoriya, I wouldn't have to worry so much!"
As the mother and son started bickering, Bakugo's dad tried to mediate but ended up getting scolded by both of them. Watching this chaotic family, All Might couldn't help but feel a bit moved—what a quirky household.
After finishing the visit to Bakugo's home, All Might nervously headed to Midoriya Izuku's house. This time, he asked Aizawa Shouta to wait outside. He needed to face this boy and his mother on his own.
"All… All Might…"
When Midoriya Inko opened the door and saw All Might himself standing there, she froze. Stiff as a robot, she nervously invited the nation's most beloved hero into her home.
"Midoriya, how are you feeling now?"
In the living room, All Might greeted Midoriya Izuku, who was still wrapped in bandages. His smile was awkward, knowing that the boy's current state was partly his responsibility.
"All Might…"
Midoriya Izuku looked down in silence. Seeing his hero in person stirred complicated emotions—what should have been excitement now felt like sorrow.
"Here's some tea!"
Midoriya Inko returned from the kitchen with tea, sitting down to wait. She already knew about the home visits from Deku's classmates yesterday.
"I'm here with an agreement from U.A. High. We're planning to start a boarding program for students, so we need parents' consent."
All Might got straight to the point, clearly stating his purpose. He braced himself for what would likely be the toughest part of this visit.
"I don't agree!"
"Just as I thought..."
Although All Might was already prepared for this, hearing Midoriya Inko's firm response still made him feel troubled. He had long understood that a mother who saw her child being kidnapped by the enemy and nearly killed would never believe that U.A. High School was a safe place.
"Maybe this is my selfishness... but I'd rather Izuku not become a hero than see him turn into this kind of person."
"......"
It was the hardest thing to argue against, the words that no one could oppose. All Might knew he could never stop a mother from loving her child. He was just an outsider in this situation.
"Mom..."
Midoriya Izuku kept his mother's words in his heart. He had always dreamed of becoming a hero but had neglected his mother's feelings. However, he had already made up his mind.
Looking at the hero he admired, Midoriya Izuku slowly spoke his decision:
"All Might... I've decided not to become a hero."
"Izuku!"
"Midoriya-kun..."
Midoriya Inko was shocked, and All Might felt sad... but Midoriya Izuku wasn't done speaking yet.
"I've decided to continue studying in the support course and focus on being a support hero!"
