Reborn as the God-Emperor in Marvel

Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Heading to Florence

Bayonetta moved with incredible agility, narrowly avoiding the sharp blades that brushed past her, yet none of them could touch her. With each attack dodged, her speed increased. She wielded pistols in both hands and on her feet, firing at a speed that even Solomon couldn't follow. Each deafening gunshot echoed only once, but it managed to strike multiple enemies.

With an ally holding off the enemies ahead, Solomon could safely cast his spells. This was the first time he truly enjoyed the perks of being a mage.

He pointed at an enemy while chanting a spell. A simple cantrip emerged—a perfect choice to probe the unfamiliar foes. This spell allowed Solomon to briefly sense the enemy's defensive weaknesses. Since he had no knowledge of what magical effects these angels were immune to or resistant against, he had to be cautious.

Suddenly, a large, ghostly bell appeared above an angel carrying a large horn. The mournful toll echoed, and negative energy compressed the angel like sound waves. The angel blew another note from its horn, and the positive energy shot out, colliding with the negative energy, neutralizing both in a wave of force. But a fireball followed immediately, slamming into its face, scorching part of its helmet.

Solomon's attack caught the angels' attention. Although they couldn't land a hit on Bayonetta, Solomon, standing in the distance, seemed like an easier target. Shifting their focus seemed like a good idea.

However, before they could fly toward Solomon, a sickening green energy shot out from the sorcerer's hands, hitting a bird-like angel holding a golden spear.

The angel, an Affinity, became sluggish. Bayonetta raised her leg, her high heel pressing against its head. In the next moment, bullets pierced through the angel's skull.

"Thank you, boya~ More of those spells, please," Bayonetta winked at Solomon. She noticed that the angel hit by Solomon's magic had weakened considerably, both its skin and the flesh-bound armor now much more fragile.

Solomon had used a spell, Ray of Sickness, to test whether these angels could resist poison effects. Even though the previous spell, True Strike, gave him some insight into the enemy, it didn't provide a full picture. Through a combination of spells—Toll the Dead, Firebolt, and Ray of Sickness—he had a general understanding of their weaknesses.

Solomon's figure wavered like mist in the dim light, dodging a beam of positive energy fired from a horn. Despite the chaos, he continued casting spells.

A massive earthen hand appeared beside Bayonetta, towering over her. Before she could react, it grabbed an angel near her. Dark cracks spread across the angel's body, and blood was forced out, turning into golden sparks that drifted into the air.

"Oh my~" Bayonetta effortlessly pressed her gun against the angel's head, firing several shots. As the earthen hand released the fallen angel, it grabbed another. Now, the witch was certain this was Solomon's magic. It had been a great help, pulling angels from her blind spots so she could strike.

As the angels gradually encircled Bayonetta, even taking positions above her with their horns raised, Solomon immediately dismissed the Maximilian's Grasp spell and switched to another.

"Come to me, Bayonetta," Solomon commanded while still casting. As soon as he spoke, the witch instantly appeared beside him. A thick, sticky web fell from the sky, covering all the angels and pinning them to the ground.

Now was the time for targeted spells.

Solomon tore open a scroll, and a fireball, just slightly shorter than him, appeared. It rolled in a straight line toward the trapped angels, igniting the flammable webbing. Flames rapidly consumed the entire web, enveloping the angels in searing heat. Under Solomon's control, the fireball rolled back, crushing every angel in its path.

"Not bad, little one. Your performance was decent," Bayonetta smirked, firing at the few remaining angels struggling to survive. "But this was a small battle."

"I'm here to retrieve something, Bayonetta, not fight. But since these angels have invaded Earth, it's also Kamar-Taj's duty to eliminate them." Solomon sighed. Necromancy drained his own power; he wasn't yet authorized to draw magic from the Dark Dimension. He needed to use necromancy sparingly to avoid stunting his growth.

Constantly looking up at Bayonetta was getting uncomfortable.

When the angels had all turned into golden sparks and vanished in the flames, Bayonetta summoned her motorcycle again. "Hop on, boya," she said. "Or would you prefer I hold you? I don't mind~"

"Tsk!" Solomon clicked his tongue but obediently climbed onto the back seat. He didn't want to risk an embarrassing reaction if she actually hugged him—especially not in front of her.

"Better hold on tight, or are you shy…?" Bayonetta teased again.

"Shut up, witch!" Solomon's face reddened as he wrapped his arms around Bayonetta's slender waist. "Just drive! If you say another word, I'll get mad!"

Bayonetta had chosen the battleground near a castle called Vinci Tower, located in the southern region of Fiesole, just outside Florence. It was said that Leonardo da Vinci had once conducted flying experiments on the summit of Mount Ceceri nearby.

To the south lay a road, which, if followed west, would lead straight to Florence. However, it was already late, and Solomon's destination, the Basilica of Santa Croce, located near Leonardo da Vinci's childhood home, had closed for the night.

So, Bayonetta drove west, planning to spend the night at a resort called "The Country Puppet." Conveniently, there was also a restaurant nearby called Ristorante Il Salviatino, which had garnered rave reviews for its Italian cuisine. She was eager to try it.

Standing at the door of their guest room, Solomon spoke, "I get it, I really do. I want to try the Italian food too."

His tone grew louder and more serious. "But why did you only get one room, Bayonetta?! Do you even have any sense of propriety?!"

"It's for safety, boya~" Bayonetta placed her hands on her hips, her perfect figure drawing the attention of passersby. She pulled a lollipop from her cleavage and popped it into her mouth, and Solomon could hear someone stumble and fall in the background. Casually, she said, "Angels could show up at any time, you know~"

"I'll set up magical wards."

"Angels could attack in the middle of the night~"

"I'll set up magical wards."

"Angels are like men—they always show up when you least expect them~"

"I'll—"

"Hurry up and open the door, or I'll dispel my magic. Big Sis's clothes are made of magic, after all. Or maybe you'd like everyone to see Big Sis naked…"

"Get in! Get in! We'll go buy clothes later!"

I've realized that I'm not good at writing cute things. I give up.
