Reborn as the God-Emperor in Marvel

Chapter 45: Chapter 45: The Fate of the Soul

Solomon booked a table through room service, reserved a taxi, and even brought Bayonetta a dress while she was in the shower. It was a pure white evening gown, form-fitting, and tailored to her exact size, which Solomon had asked her for beforehand.

Thankfully, the Grandmaster had given Solomon more than enough funds for his trip. It seemed the Grandmaster had anticipated this situation, which is why she increased Solomon's budget. In addition to the provided funds, Solomon also had an extra bank card secretly slipped into his pocket by the Grandmaster, containing so much money that he didn't even bother counting it.

Solomon found his effort in reserving the restaurant somewhat unnecessary, as Bayonetta didn't seem to need food to survive at all. In fact, she had been submerged in a lake for 500 years, and if it weren't for the immense magical power sustaining her life, she would have starved to death long ago.

The sorcerer even wondered if Bayonetta's stomach still functioned properly—perhaps everything she ate was sent through portals into lower planes.

It had been a few hours since their meal at Enzo's house, and the battle had certainly drained Solomon's energy. He was now starving and eagerly looking forward to tasting the local cuisine.

Bayonetta, on the other hand, spent an additional hour preparing herself. Solomon didn't mind at all—he had mentally prepared for such delays after reading about them online.

The witch seemed to thoroughly enjoy being pampered. When she finally emerged from the room, everything had been arranged to her satisfaction. She inspected the dress repeatedly, clearly pleased with the design. It was only after Solomon, covering his eyes in exasperation, urged her to put it on that she did so.

This woman never puts on clothes right after a bath!

"Looks like the little guy has learned how to take care of others," she teased, her voice playfully rising as she pulled Solomon along, exiting the hotel and getting into the waiting taxi. "Come on, a culinary adventure awaits us."

Italian cuisine heavily features seafood, and seafood pasta is a must-try dish. If pasta isn't to your liking, there's always seafood risotto. After the appetizers, the waiter brought out a square deep dish filled with oysters, squid, shrimp, and mushrooms, accompanied by two slices of toasted bread.

Olive oil, black olives, and tomatoes were staples in almost every dish. The cold plates consisted mainly of Italian cured sausages and dried ham, paired with different types of wines. Though no one in Italy seemed to care about minors drinking alcohol, Solomon refused Bayonetta's offer to try some and opted for an iced cola instead.

For the main course, they ordered T-bone steak—thick, juicy, and cooked to a perfect medium-rare. These steaks were measured by the kilogram, but for Solomon and Bayonetta, the portions were insignificant.

Italians pay special attention to dinner, and by nightfall, the restaurant was packed with patrons. However, to provide a private dining experience, the restaurant didn't light up the entire space. Instead, a single light was placed on each table, leaving everything around the diners in darkness. You could only see the face of the person across from you.

Because of this, Bayonetta's stunning appearance didn't draw much attention, allowing the witch and Solomon to have a quiet conversation. Some things are easier to discuss over a meal.

"Boya, when are you going to tell me the things I should know?" Bayonetta asked, scooping a bite of her dessert—crispy cream cake—with a small silver spoon.

Despite all the food she had eaten, Solomon couldn't detect any signs that Bayonetta was full. She seemed capable of eating more. "Don't be like your teacher and keep secrets from me. You're too young to be telling lies."

"I won't. If you want, I can tell you the story now," the sorcerer replied, ordering another cola. Alcohol was bad for brain development, and as a mage, he needed to protect his brain. "After all, searching for the Darkhold will take a long time, so there's no rush."

"I'm curious to hear your answer." Bayonetta looked at Solomon intently. "There must be something in it I need to know."

"Have you really forgotten your past completely?" Solomon asked, raising his head. "You don't remember anything? Not even a little?"

"I only remember that I'm a witch," Bayonetta replied. "Hunting angels and summoning demons are like instincts to me. It feels like I was born knowing how to cast those spells."

Solomon finished his last bite of steak, wiped his mouth, and then began explaining everything he knew to Bayonetta. To ensure privacy, he used a small spell, causing his voice to sound directly in her ear, so while others could see his lips moving, they couldn't hear a thing.

"So, you're saying that the power I possess is called the 'Left Eye,' which gives me the ability to summon demons?" Bayonetta asked after a moment of silence. "And the angels are hunting me to reclaim the 'Left Eye' to awaken their god?"

"That's right. And the 'Right Eye,' which grants the power to summon angels, is in Vigrid. The large number of angels there isn't without reason.

No one knows what the Lumen Sage is doing in Vigrid. From the outside, it looks like an advanced city, but beyond that, there's nothing particularly special about it. I don't have much intelligence on the matter—I'm no information broker," Solomon said. "But the angelic presence has grown out of control, which is why the Grandmaster sent me to assist you in hunting them."

"So, the Grandmaster sees me as a tool too," Bayonetta laughed. "But I'm just a poor girl being chased by angels."

"The angels you've slaughtered would cry if they heard you say that, Bayonetta!" Solomon rolled his eyes. Anyone who believed her was a fool. Perhaps only if Solomon unlocked his full potential could he rival Bayonetta's power, but even then, his speed couldn't compare.

Solomon had witnessed Bayonetta pulling the trigger numerous times in an instant. If he faced such an enemy unprepared, the only outcome would be death.

"And besides, the fact that the Grandmaster sent me shows that Kamar-Taj stands behind you, even if I may not be much help," he added.

"Tsk, boya, you really are a naughty child," Bayonetta said, crossing her legs. "Perhaps in the end, the best thing for Big Sis is to go down with the angels, wouldn't you say?"

Her words shattered any warmth in the conversation, but neither of them sitting at the table was the type to be bothered by such matters.

"Bayonetta, you have to understand, the Grandmaster has already set rules. Beings from both upper and lower planes are forbidden from stepping foot on Earth. Humanity doesn't need them. The only ones still capable of summoning these creatures on Earth are witches and sages.

This 'Left Eye' and 'Right Eye' power is more of a curse than a blessing for Earth," Solomon sighed. "And do you think you can summon demons without paying a price? I suspect your soul already has a destination. It likely belongs to the part of Chaos God Asher that fell into the abyss and spawned a demon lord.

It's very likely that the witches signed a contract with that demon lord, which is how they gained the power to summon demons. But everything comes with a cost, and when you die, your soul will be dragged into the abyss."

"Oh my~ How scary~" Bayonetta wrapped her arms around herself, pretending to shiver. "So, little one, do you have a way to help me?"
