Chapter 10: Cruel Beating
"D-dog?! This guy lost his mind!"
Norman seemed to be looking like the one I described him to be as he was ready to pounce and put me into my place right in this instant.
However, his lapdogs were stopping him, afraid that he would destroy the image he had built in the Academy.
But those looking at this situation didn't seem to favor Norman at all.
I begin to hear whispers from the onlookers.
"He's at it again. He thought he had the right to do these things just because he's the son of Duke Vincent,"
"Norman had these instances where he just couldn't bring himself together with normal people and nobility. That's why many people, noble or commoners, hated him."
"That incoming first year has guts though. He said dog to Norman and wanted to fight him. Apparently, even though Norman has a trash personality, he's equally strong."
"I wish I could cheer for that first year but there's nothing he could do in here,"
So he's the kind of guy who preys on the weak and thinks he can just get away with it because he's the son of a duke.
Nobody's even stopping us even if they are aware of the circumstances.
As the situation continued to intensify, I looked towards the nervous reactions that Yana was showing before stating.
"So, do you wanna fight or you're already afraid of facing some commoner like me,"
As if his lackeys finally started making sense of the situation for him, Norman calmed down and breathed slowly.
"You are brave, Cillian. Haha… very, very brave,"
He kept shaking his finger, signaling that I had made a mistake agitating someone like him.
It was very funny to look at though.
That desperation and annoyance he had for me… is something I want to crush.
"Come with me. We'll fight according to the Academy rules,"
…
Academy rule number 43, which Norman diligently explained to me, states that students are allowed to 'duel' each other as long as they have the consent of each individual and one teacher.
The surprising thing about this is the fact that we have an audience following us from behind with a teacher leading us to an area ready for duels to take place.
"Brother, are you going to be okay? Your face looks worried,"
Honestly, I blame my impulsiveness on this one.
I knew what would happen after this duel was finished, and whether I won or lost didn't even matter.
And I would begin to worry about my family which explains why my face looks concerned.
After all, this is the duke's son of another kingdom.
'Oh well, straightening this kid up should be the priority right now. Just because I'm confident I'll win doesn't mean I'll get out of this unscathed. That shouldn't even happen in the first place which is why being complacent about fighting a kid isn't happening. Wait, I'm a kid now…'
Thoughts circled around my brain simultaneously which only stopped once we came to our destination.
Entering the duel spot, Norman suddenly spoke.
"You're dead meat, Cillian. I'm going to show you the difference in our skills and will show it to you really hard. Be grateful for even fighting me commoner,"
'This guy… has some serious main character syndrome…'
I'm starting to get irritated by him.
I was thinking of finishing up fast but that would only procure suspicions, not only to the audience of this duel but also to my sister.
Even though I read some books related to some spells with Yana watching me as we traveled, showing my capabilities a little bit too much would change her perspective on me.
It'll be good if it only stayed on being a good brother though.
We began to settle in the duel spot which was just a clear platform with no obstacles to hinder our way.
Audiences were outside of the borders of the duel spots, and my sister was one of them watching anxiously.
The teacher who was also inside the duel spot but maintained quite a good distance voiced out.
"The duel will only end once the other sides surrender."
Quite straightforward.
I like it.
"Get ready,"
Both I and Norman had one similarity to each other, and that is we're mages.
The reason the teacher asked us to get ready and not fight right away is because we were given time to channel our mana from the position.
However, I don't need to do such a thing.
The teacher, Norman, and even the audience who were adept at mana couldn't sense any circulation happening inside me.
Well, that's the first basic concept regarding Magic and Sorcery that was taught to everyone.
But me who's a genius was a different caliber.
I created Arcane, the accumulation of all my learnings throughout my past life after all.
The teacher who was reluctant to start slowly raised his hand before going down to signal the beginning of the duel.
"Start!"
Whoosh—!
I ran forward which surprised Norman but he was able to get ahold of himself and quickly cast a spell.
A 'circle' appeared in the air beside Norman.
Analyzing the engravings, inscriptions, and runes behind that spell an instant, I was quickly able to deduce the incoming attack.
'Low tier one spell, Fireball,'
Boring.
"Fireball!"
I could've stopped that attack before it got cast using one of my main spells, Counter Spell, but I wanted to show him something less surprising.
The huge fireball came hurling in my direction. Its heat was even felt that resulted to the sweat forming above my forehead.
Yet that scorching fire will be gone.
Raising my hand in the direction that was about to meet the hurling flame, my gaze was focused intently on it.
'Spell Devourer,'
There was no 'circle' that appeared in my hand to do something about the incoming fire like everyone was thinking from the outside.
However, that huge fireball was sucked into my palms, eating away the heat that was there a moment ago.
A few seconds later, it was gone.
"HUH?!"
The surprise was apparent on everyone's faces as the fire mysteriously disappeared.
Norman seemed to have lost his focus at the moment but he quickly came right back as he shot out his second prepared spell.
Analyzing it was fast as it is very… dull and textbook spells.
'Ice Spear… boring,'
"Ice Spear!"
Whoosh—!
The spear which was covered with ice whistled through the air and swiftly came into my direction.
'Spell Devourer,'
However, I raised my other hand and devoured the same thing.
With two spells under my sleeves, while closing the distance at Norman, I began to use and wrapped them around my body.
"Hahh…"
'Conjured Manifestation,'
With an icy appearance on my left as my right was burning red, I was only a few meters away till I reached Norman.
And he had no time to cast other weak spells of his.
"H-how do you call yourself a mage?!"
Ah right…
I am indeed a mage, really.
But shouldn't they be only casting their spells from the backlines, fighting it through using magic?
However, I'm a different kind of mage.
Before even I became an Emperor, I was a Battle Mage.
With a smirk, I replied.
"How do you call yourself a human? Dogs like you should just keep barking,"
Norman tried to defend but he was weak at close combat.
As for me, once I got close to this guy, the match was already over.
But there's no way I would end this fast.
"I surr—"
Tak—!
Hitting Norman's throat to prevent him from surrendering using my right arm which burnt some of his skin, I used my left cold arm and gave a painful hook punch.
His face received the effects of the ice as he got thrown at the side.
I followed him mercilessly.
Tak—!
Kicking his stomach as he flails around on the ground, I cruelly use my foot to hit his face to make him stop.
Norman tried to raise his hand to signal his surrender, another way to stop this match, but I kicked it without much thought and broke his arm.
"Why such a haste?"
Devilishly smiling, both my hands began to work as I began to pound him on the ground, his face changing in structure.
Thud—!
Norman tried to raise his other hand, the last thing he could only do at this moment but it received the same treatment as his other broken arm.
Thud—!
The sound of my ragged breathing as I continued beating him into a pulp, much worse than I did to Ken was the only thing that the audience watched.
Norman was quivering but even if I knew that, I didn't stop.
I want him to remember, and for everyone thinking of messing up with me, this is what they will become if they do.
I don't care about attracting attention, I'm used to it.
So comment about anything about my brutality, I don't give a shit.
"What's the meaning of this?!"
Huh…
I paused beating up Norman who was barely recognizable and looked towards another person who entered inside the duel to intervene.
'Great, another pest to extinguish,'
