Chapter 5: South Traveler
"Ugh, I will miss the two of you…"
Reo and Freia were tearing up while me and Yana prepared ourselves for our embark.
We already finished the last touches of our needs and the only thing we needed to do and say our goodbyes and hope well for the future.
Yana also seemed affected as she was already hugging our parents.
"Hey, you little rascal. Come you, will you?"
After being forced by my parents into a hug, I shrugged and surrendered to it.
I didn't dislike it though.
In a minute of being drenched with my father's snot, my mother's tears, and my sister's both snot and tears, I was finally free from their clutches.
'Now wait a minute. Why am I the only one who received their disgusting farewell?!'
I was completely soaked with water.
"Hahh…"
Calming myself down as Yana entered the carriage room, I sat myself at the driver seat while glancing back at our parents.
"We'll be on my way now,"
Freia gave a curt nod.
"Have a safe trip,"
Thus we began our adventure towards the Academy.
…
Prior to our departure, it had already been a week since I'd beaten up Ken.
Yana who told our parents what actually made me exert that action was enraged.
Hence instead of apologizing, they are the ones who demanded such apology from the Ken's parents for even doing such intolerable actions.
We met face to face again, but that brat couldn't look me straight in the eyes.
He was right to do it though.
I might've done a second round of beating if I saw his pathetic face again looking at me once more.
One week had passed since then, Reo and Freia prepared everything we needed once we came to the Academy.
The only thing we just needed was to enroll in it and see if we could get admitted.
"Brother, do you see these 'cars' from outside? I want to ride one of those in the future…"
Cars…
Way back before, such words haven't even existed.
In today's age, machinery is widely being incorporated into the daily lives of humanity.
There are flying balloons in the sky being used as some sort of transportation, heavy vehicles to export and import huge cargo inland, and ships from the port to deliver items and people from sea to sea surfaces.
However, since the world hasn't completely adjusted, there are still 'instances' where the use of carriages and horses is still being widely used.
Like us.
"Hey, brother. Don't these kinds of things fascinate you?"
Looking around, I gave an abrupt reply.
"Nah, I don't,"
In fact, it could even bring more harm than good.
Or maybe I'm just afraid of change I don't have any control over?
I don't know if it was the right thing to have but this feeling… is quite exciting.
'Machinery or Technology, huh? The world is rapidly evolving,'
Neigh—!
Glancing at the horse that seemed to require immediate food, I calmly stated.
"Yana, we should rest for a while. We've passed the Ernesto State, and we've already traveled half a day. In the meantime, I'll feed the horse while you go roam around the city to sightsee. We'll resume our travel after the horse is ready,"
Yana's hands clasped together as her eyes seemed to be in delight.
"You'll do that for me, my sweet brother?"
Not going to be swayed by her sweet talks, I demanded calmly while pointing at the inn I'd parked our carriage.
"We'll be meeting here at this inn,"
"Absolutely! 'kay bye!"
After making sure that I wasn't joking and is assigned for taking care of our items, Yana hopped out of the carriage and left to explore.
As for me, the inn was a perfect place to keep our carriage parked since I didn't have to accommodate a room.
Just simply putting it alongside the other carriage parkers can solve this problem immediately.
As for why I decided to rest for a while in this particular city, I have another objective.
Giving the supervisor who handles our carriage one silver coin, I began to make my way toward the particular spot where Ken had bought the star pendant.
The item that is oozing out a dangerous mana that I'm not aware of.
Ken confessed where he bought the pendant and he mentioned the Deri City, telling his parents that he bought it at a shop called Trevor's Merchandises.
His parents told my parents before telling me this information.
Luckily, we're heading in this direction hence I can research and see the star pendant's origin.
After asking a few people about the merchandise's direction, I was finally able to come to my destination.
The shop on my front isn't extraordinary. At its windows were the merchandise it tried to attract customers to buy its products.
From an outsider's perspective, it really looked like a normal shop.
However, the star pendant is an item filled with abnormality.
The place it originated from shouldn't be any different even if appeared normal on the outside.
Entering the shop, the soft voice of a man resounded from the counter.
"A man who steps into that door is a potential customer and is always welcome. How may I assist you today?"
Very well-spoken individual…
Reaching closer to the counter, I swiftly showed the star pendant to the owner of the merchandise and I could guess the name would be Trevor.
"Trevor, I believe this pendant has been bought in this shop."
My gaze fixated on Trevor.
"May I know if this has been sold to you or… crafted by your hands?"
Trevor stared at me briefly and grabbed the pendant to inspect before smiling innocently.
"I don't know. I've sold many pendants in my life and many came to me to sell theirs. But if I remember correctly, this star pendant hasn't been made by me,"
Watching him carrying the pendant, my suspicions regarding this Trevor died down.
The star pendant's power could only work if they are being held by a person to activate its powers.
Like what Ken did, he could only attack Yana because he infused his mana and tried to harm her with it.
However, the owner of the shop was different.
Even if he was only touching it, Trevor couldn't feel the mana already oozing out from the item.
If he was suspicious about me, he would've already attacked and a battle would surely ensue.
Unless he knew what I was doing, and merely holding his own because I was only testing the waters.
'For now, I'll believe his words and see if he was stating the truth,'
"May I know the history behind this pendant? I'm sure you're keeping tabs on the purchases happening in your shop just like everyone else,"
Trevor answered, "Of course. After all, it would be bad for the law if our shop isn't following the regulations administered to us. But I can only show you the star pendant's history, okay?"
Since there are no disagreements on either side, my business in this shop runs smoothly.
I was able to see that the star pendant has been sold to Trevor with instructions on how to 'use' it.
As to whatever it implied, it didn't matter to Trevor since the pendant was beautifully crafted.
To him, it could be sold as long as it looked cool.
I didn't get much information regarding the history of the star pendant… aside from one thing.
The one who sold the star pendant at this shop goes by the alias The South Traveler.
