Reincarnated Wehraboo's Revenge

Chapter 54: The day of reckoning

On the day of the ball, Erika and Maruschka prepared for the ball.

Maruschka wore the dress Erika gave her while Erika wore one that Hanna gifted her.

They both looked beautiful in their luxurious gowns that brought out their beauty and fit in perfectly with their body.

Bauer helped them dress up for the party.

Maruschka was feeling nervous as was Erika.

This was the first ball for both of them. However, Erika was a little more composed.

She knew if she showed her anxiety then Maruschka would be even more worried.

Looking at Maruschka she could see that she was drenched in sweat and was flustered.

"L-lady Erika do you think that I-I'll be a bother in the ball?" She hesitantly asked.

Her gaze was down and she was clenching her dress as she spoke.

"NO! Why'd I ever think that?" Erika said surprised.

"B-but I'm only a commoner. A-and I don't think o-others will l-like a commoner in the ball."

"I might embarrass you by making mistakes." Maruschka said.

"Isn't it a bit too late to think about all these? You practiced dancing so hard and are wearing the dress I gave you. Besides, it's an academy event. So a student of the academy must attend."

"Bu-but...." Maruschka couldn't finish her sentence.

"There are no buts. Just stay with me and Hanna and you'll be fine."

"Huh, why'd I spend time with the commoner?!"

Hanna who just came in said.

She was also wearing a beautiful gown that matched her blond hair and looked absolutely stunning.

"I want to spend the ball with you lady Erika. So end your formalities with his highness as soon as possible." She said.

"Let's go lady Erika. We mustn't waste time here."

Hanna pulled the hand of Erika and started to walk out of the room.

Maruschka couldn't bear to see this. She also rushed to Erika and hugged her other arm.

However, Bauer couldn't stand at ease after Hanna mentioned the prince. She felt goosebumps.

"Ah, milady can I have word with you?" She asked as the three girls were walking out of the room towards the corridor.

"Yes, sure what is it Bauer?" Erika turned her head around.

Looking at Hanna and Maruschka, Bauer said, "Excuse me ladies but I'll have to borrow milady for a while. Please go ahead."

"Absolutely not!" Both Hanna and Maruschka replied together.

"Eh, what is it? I can't speak with her?!" Bauer was shocked.

"Not that. I'll wait for lady Erika." Again the two said in a perfect sync.

They let go of Erika's arms. Erika went to her room to listen to what Bauer had to say.

"Milady, are you carrying your gun with you?" Bauer whispered, bringing her head close to Erika's ear.

"Yes, I've been keeping it with me since the first day. What about you?"

"Yes, I have mine with me as well." Bauer whispered into Erika's ears again.

"Is there anything more?" Erika now spoke normally.

"No, milady just this much. Let's go."

Again Maruschka and Hanna both grabbed an arm of Erika and went to the ball room.

Walking into the hall, something other than the grandeur and celebration caught Erika's eyes.

At the entrance she saw five fully armoured knights from the king's knight group, they all gave her glance of disapproval.

Erika couldn't understand their gaze. She thought it was because of the two girls holding on to her in an awkward manner.

However, both Hanna and Maruschka were too much lost in their own bliss to notice this anomaly.

Another problem Erika noticed was the students that bumped into her during the first day.

She hadn't seen them again afterwards in the academy but now were present again.

Erika and Bauer both noticed their gazes on them as they grinned and whispered something to each other.

Soon the ball commenced. Erika, Hanna and Maruschka exchanged greetings with the other students present and congratulated the seniors on their graduation.

Maruschka emitated Erika as skillfully as she could.

The prince like always sneered away at Erika's greetings.

But at this stage Erika was already accustomed to it.

Hanna and Maruschka faced the same disdain, Maruschka bit more than Hanna.

Erika tried to keep things under control, while the prince seemed to be impatient.

He was waiting for something.

Soon a knight entered the hall and went straight to the prince, whispering something into his ears.

A sinister smile took over his face as he heard what the knight said.

After the knight left, he scoffed.

"Ahem, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for coming to this celebratory ball today." He spoke taking the attention of everyone present.

The music stopped along with the students who were talking to each other.

Including Erika, Maruschka and Hanna everyone looked at the prince and listened to what he says.

"I am the crown prince of the Kingdom of Hohenstaufia Theodore Von Hohenstaufia." He introduced himself first.

"Today is a day of celebrations and happiness as our seniors graduate from this prestigious academy."

He made a long initiation before moving into the main topic.

"But it is with great pain that I have to bring up some facts that I found unignorable anymore."

Looking at the stunned audiences for a moment, he continued again.

"As you all know I am engaged to Erika Raubenbraum, the daughter of Duke Walther Raubenbraum." He spoke looking straight at Erika.

"As my fiance she was supposed to become a queen of this country. But unfortunately, instead of taking care of the subjects, both the Duke and Erika abused their authority."

Hearing this everyone was stunned. No one has ever been very close to Erika and their only interactions were just formalities.

Still Erika was known as someone kind and naive and not someone who would abuse authority.

Erika was frozen still. As she tried to regain her composer, Maruschka was the first to react.

"That's impossible! Neither lady Erika nor uncle Walther would do something like that." She protested directly to the prince.

Hanna also snapped after a period of silence.

"The commoner is right. Lady Erika or Lord Duke would never do something like that."

Erika on the other hand gained her cool and held the hands of Maruschka and Hanna signalling them to calm down.

"May I know what I've done your highness?" She said looking straight at the eyes of the prince.

"Oh, feigning ignorance are we. Fine I'll lay it all out for everyone to judge." Prince said with a grin in his face.

He called the name of some students who Erika never heard of. But when they came forward she remembered them from the incident first day.

"These are the students who you blamed to have entered your room and trying to attack you."

Erika could remember what happened vividly.

"please listen to us. We didn't attack her in her room." The students said in a crying voice.

"What actually happened was that we bumped into lady Erika accidentally on that day. And even though we apologised she did some type of magic on us."

"What happened next?" Prince Theodore asked.

"The next thing we know, we were in her room and she along with her maid tortured us as the commoner slept in her bed." They cried.

"And when we tried scream, she blamed us of entering her room and attacking her."

"That's just impossible. How can lady Erika just take so many students into her room without anyone noticing?!" Hanna spoke breaking her calm.

This whole accusation seemed absurd to her.

"That's because she knows dark magic." Schorner entered the room with an orb in his hands and stood beside the prince as he spoke.

"Everyone including me witnessed how the orb turned pitch black when lady Erika first tested her magic." He spoke.

"At first we thought it was an anomaly of the orb but after further investigations we found that Lady Erika actually knows dark magic."

The other first year students had witnessed that event as well.

"But... but if they screamed in pain and agony like that I who was in the room would have woken up first." Maruschka spoke this time.

"There's no way I'd sleep through so many people screaming in pain."

"That's because you were drugged." Schorner said.

"WHAT?!"

Maruschka was surprised, as were everyone else along with Hanna.

Everyone knew that Erika was very friendly with Maruschka. So they could never believe that she could poison her.

"There's no way lady Erika would do that." Maruschka screamed.

"But it's true. We all saw you not waking up even after all the commotion. And there's no way that's possible if you weren't drugged."

This time the person who spoke was Weilding.

"Even so, I know my lady Erika better than anyone. She won't never hurt anyone." Hanna said.

"I don't want to hear anything from the accomplice." The prince scolded.

"I know the Landsturm and the Raubenbraum are in collusion in various illegal activities. We have already found ample evidence and arrested both the Duke Raubenbraum and Lord Landsturm."

Hearing this both Hanna and Erika were shocked.

"Just now the knight told me that they were successfully arrested." The prince said.

He was very satisfied with how things were going.

"They have committed treason against the Kingdom by trying to sabotage the Royal Army and even relaying information about their whereabouts to other countries."

The prince spoke as he threw some papers towards the audience.

"Here is the proof." He said.

Hanna was almost broken. She didn't know what to do. And was moved to tears.

"It's impossible. My father would never do that." She cried.

"Alright enough is enough. Arrest them." The prince said aloud.

Soon the Knights Erika saw previously entered the room they headed towards Erika, Hanna and Maruschka.

At this moment, Erika hardened her resolution.

She decided to fight, escape and later free both her and Hanna's father.
