She Was Condemned as a Villain, But After Baking Bread She Changed Her Job To Become A Saint!?

Chapter 1.2

Chapter 1.2

I don’t care how much it costs. I want to make soft, fluffy wheat bread and I know just how to bake it…

Back then it occurred to me.

What if I—Avaricia—were to take arbitrary actions that would break the game’s worldview?

Would the game still progress correctly according to the script?

If it did, everything would be okay.

But what if it didn’t?

What if the ending changed drastically?

Well, that would still be okay. It’s a multi-ending format after all, so as long as it can reach a proper landing point even if it’s a bad ending, it’ll be fine.

But what if the change is too huge and the game can’t progress?

What if it crashes and this world is destroyed?

When I thought about it, I was suddenly scared.

I wouldn’t want to destroy the world with my selfish desires..

Above all, as a huge fan of this game – an “Elysium Alice”enthusiast – I absolutely didn’t want to do that. I’m the type who absolutely can’t forgive alterations that don’t show respect for the original work, even in fan works. It’s an absolute NO to alterations that could destroy the worldview or stop the game! That’s not something an otaku should do!

And so, from then on, I became solely focused on fulfilling my role as the villainess.

I meticulously recreated the scenes depicted in the game.

Even beyond that, I made sure to act in a way that did not contradict the world setting or character settings.

I can do whatever I want after the game reaches the ending!

But first, I’ll fulfil my role as the villainess so that the game can reach the ending properly!

It was a game I had played so thoroughly that I could remember every line of dialogue. The Avaricia I played was perfect—just as she was in the game, I must say with some self-congratulation.

That’s why, two years ago—I was able to properly reach the true ending of the crown prince route.

Avaricia met her scripted downfall, was exiled to a remote temple and spent a year as a low-ranking priestess in thorough service to the gods in order to reform herself.

After that, she was allowed to return to the territory of the Ashenford Dukedom and she began living in a small mansion within the forest on the outskirts of a certain town.

From then, it was finally my time!

Over the course of a year, I found and secured a source of high-quality wheat that could be stably supplied. Next, I located a supplier of sugar and after many negotiations, we drew a contract. I found a skilled craftsman of magic tools—like appliances powered by magic—and developed a large-capacity stone oven suitable for baking bread.

It took a whole lot of time!

Similarly, there were tools needed for baking bread that did not yet exist in this world, so I worked with the craftsman to create them myself.

In addition, I procured raisins, bananas, apples, and yoghurt to make my own bread yeast.

After that, it was nothing but trial and error! Trial and error! Trial and error! A storm of trial and error!

I really worked hard!

“Alright, the second fermentation is complete!”

I checked the clock and the dough.

Yep! It looks good!

I shaped the baguettes and cut three diagonal slits called “coupes” into them. I took the boules out of the mould and cut them into crosses. Then, I lightly sprayed the surface with a mist sprayer and placed them in the preheated three-tier stone oven.

I brushed the butter rolls with beaten egg and put them in the stone oven as well.

Oh, this is going to be fun!

Of course, since I started living alone a year ago, I’ve been baking bread for myself in the small oven attached to the kitchen stove. And to be more specific, I’ve been baking bread regularly to select which wheat to purchase, to check the quality of my homemade bread yeast, and to get used to the quirks of the large stone oven since it was built.

But today is a little different.

This is the first time I’m baking bread for someone other than myself—for the people of this world!

I don’t want them to think that all bread tasted like that prison bread. There are many other kinds of bread—and I want the people of this world to know how delicious they are.

It would be wonderful if I could eventually make a living from baking bread.

Ah, even though I’ve been defeated—or rather, even though I’ve been ruined, I’m still a duke’s daughter.

 An extremely rich young lady.

Every month, I received a considerable amount of financial support from my mother’s family, so I never had to worry about anything, but that’s a story for another time. You may not believe it, but after being a corporate slave for so long, I’m afraid of free time.

The thought of having too much time is terrifying. I usually get this urge to do something whenever I sit still for long. It makes me go crazy.

A former corporate slave just can’t handle a slow life.

I’d love to live like a lady, waking up right before noon, having a leisurely breakfast in a warm, shady spot, strolling through the woods, having tea, taking a nap, reading a little, enjoying dinner, sipping wine while gazing at the stars, and taking two or three hours to care for my body and skin before bed. But I can’t do that. I’m incapable of doing that.

Even if I don’t have to worry about money, I want to work. I want to be chased by deadlines to some extent.

That’s when I thought of baking.

I’ve already finished the game, so I don’t have to worry about the impact on the game!

Now, I want to spread delicious bread to this world!

“……! Oh, it smells good……!”

My lips naturally curled up at the fragrant aroma of bread that started to waft through the air.

To start, I’m going to focus on baking hard bread that is relatively close to the bread in this world so that people will accept it more easily. I’m used to baking that from my previous life but I’d also like to try my hands on Viennoiserie like croissants and brioche someday. I’d also like to make savoury treats like sandwiches, tartines, and burgers…
