Shinigami: Medicine Can't Save The Soul Reaper Society

Chapter 185: Chapter 186: Concern Leads to Confusion

Soon after, Makoto introduced himself to both parties and proposed his plan to settle Rangiku and Hisagi in this location.

After all, Hisagi and Rangiku were still far too young.

Not everyone was a genius like Gin; otherwise, Gin's enrollment in the Shin'ō Academy at such a young age wouldn't have caused such a stir at the time.

Currently, based on Makoto's rough judgment, neither Hisagi nor Rangiku met the Academy's standards, even after its recent decision to broaden admission criteria.

As for directly bringing them to Seireitei for placement, apart from the complex regulations governing Seireitei, there was another issue: neither Hisagi nor Rangiku was mature enough to handle such an environment. Their presence would likely cause unnecessary trouble.

Makoto wasn't concerned about whether taking care of these two kids would disrupt his cohabitation with Unohana in the courtyard. That thought hadn't even crossed his mind.

After considering everything, Makoto concluded that settling them here was undoubtedly the most suitable choice.

The area chosen by Byakuya was, without a doubt, the safest and most prosperous part of Rukongai.

Coincidentally, Byakuya had previously purchased all the nearby houses in a show of extravagance to avoid causing any inconvenience to Hisana. There were more than enough rooms to accommodate them.

"This…"

Hisana, whose nature was gentle and kind, felt a deep sympathy for Hisagi and Rangiku. Yet, her expression revealed some hesitation as she said, "Makoto, I'm willing to help, but these houses belong to Lord Byakuya. I'm only staying here temporarily. I can't make decisions without his consent."

Senju Makoto.

Are you serious?

Do you still think of yourself as merely a temporary guest?

There were always two Kuchiki family attendants stationed outside to protect Hisana, proof enough of her importance in Byakuya's eyes.

Considering Byakuya's borderline obsession with his "Onion-head" principles, proposing something so innocuous and aligned with his values was almost guaranteed not to be refused.

But looking at Hisana's earnest and conflicted demeanor, Makoto couldn't help but wonder whether her personality shared Rukia's natural airheadedness.

Or was Hisana fully aware of everything, yet remained extremely cautious in her words and actions due to the disparity in their statuses?

Thinking of this, Makoto gave Hisana a deep, contemplative look. She was like a serene, scarlet sky—a woman of quiet beauty.

At that moment, Makoto sensed Byakuya's spiritual pressure rapidly approaching. In the blink of an eye, it was just outside the door.

Byakuya seemed to intentionally suppress his spiritual pressure before walking at a calm, unhurried pace to the entrance.

"Lord Byakuya."

Seeing Byakuya approach as if he were taking a casual stroll, Hisana quickly stood and greeted him with a bow.

Byakuya, his expression composed, entered the room and said warmly, "I was handling some matters in Rukongai and happened to pass by, so I thought I'd drop in to check on the house."

Senju Makoto.

Was Byakuya really going to pretend Hisana couldn't sense spiritual pressure, completely fooling her?

He had used shunpo to rush here, directly targeting Hisana's location, and this was supposed to be "on the way"?

Noticing Makoto's presence as if for the first time, Byakuya said, "Makoto, what a coincidence."

"Sure, let's call it that," Makoto replied, suppressing his laughter as he played along with Byakuya's performance in front of Hisana.

With Byakuya now present, Makoto straightforwardly brought up his request.

To Makoto's surprise, Byakuya's brows furrowed slightly before he turned to Hisana and said, "Hisana, could you prepare a pot of tea for us?"

"Yes, Lord Byakuya," Hisana responded, leaving the room promptly.

Once she was gone, Byakuya spoke with uncharacteristic caution. "Hisagi and Rangiku both possess spiritual power, don't they? Are you certain Hisana's health can withstand the constant exposure to their spiritual pressure?"

Makoto glanced at Byakuya, who tried to appear indifferent but couldn't hide his deep concern for Hisana.

So Byakuya has a tsundere side after all?

This thought crossed Makoto's mind, and he replied with a smile, "Byakuya, you're overthinking it. Don't forget that little Rukia also has spiritual power, yet this level of pressure won't negatively affect Hisana's spiritual body."

Byakuya's expression relaxed, though he tried to appear nonchalant. "Who—who's worried? I was merely curious."

"Of course, of course…"

Afterward, Makoto arranged for Hisagi and Rangiku to stay in the houses adjacent to Hisana's and informed them of the Shin'ō Academy's annual entrance examination dates so they could test their qualifications each year.

Makoto then returned to Seireitei alongside Byakuya.

Just before parting ways, Byakuya couldn't help but quietly ask, "Makoto, have you made any progress in addressing Hisana's condition?"

Makoto shook his head. "I'm sorry, Byakuya. With everything that's happened lately and the overwhelming workload, I haven't had much time. But I've considered a few different approaches and will make time to research them soon."

"Understood…"

Now out of Hisana's presence, Byakuya was far more open when speaking to his close friend. "If you need any assistance, Makoto, don't hesitate to ask."

After a pause, he added, "However, I'll soon be joining the Sixth Division as a Shinigami and will accompany my father to the World of the Living for a period of support."

Makoto raised an eyebrow at this unexpected news. "The World of the Living? Isn't that usually handled by the Third and Thirteenth Divisions?"

Byakuya explained, "With so many captain and vice-captain positions vacant, most divisions are unable to fully carry out their original duties.

"As such, even though the Sixth Division is traditionally a noble affairs unit, under these circumstances, we've had to take on additional responsibilities."
