Chapter 747: Chapter 726 ( Vermouth )

"How are you feeling, vermouth?" - The high priest asked as he watched the demon woman begin to rise after suffering from spasms for over an hour.

"Fine, though it was more complex to deal with than I thought" - Cattleya replied as she shook her head, though there were a few differences, such as her eyes were now an intense blue color and her red hair had changed to a pale pinkish almost white.

"Was it complicated?" - The high priest asked in surprise, after all, he did not expect a mere mortal to be strong enough to oppose the influence of an apostle, more so when it was the second most powerful god in this dimension.

"Yes, this woman had a strong will to live" - vermouth replied while shaking it's head - "Even after absorbing her soul, I can still feel a small influence on my person".

"That's a bit worrisome" - muttered the high priest before shaking his head.

"Yes, though not as much as you think, not to mention that it's not like this affected our plans, it just accelerated them a bit" - said vermouth(catteleya) while shrugging it's shoulders. She wasn't lying, her master, the god Alba, was planning on supplanting Cattleya sooner or later, after all, he couldn't let someone influence the actions of demons.

"Did you discover something inside that woman's soul, vermouth?" - The high priest asked as he changed the topic of conversation.

"The truth is that after our fight, many of her memories were damaged" - answered vermouth while frowning - "I can still detect some important things, although I'm not quite sure how truthful they will be, after all, this woman might have modified her memories as a last blow towards us."

"I don't think that's possible, after all, she didn't have that kind of ability" - said the high priest before looking at the woman - "I want you to do a quick search on this woman's memories, we need to make sure who our enemy is"

"I'm sure we already have more or less an idea of who she is" - said vermouth as it gave a blank look to the fellow apostle.

"Yes, but it's better to make sure, after all, it's better to have one enemy than two who could fuck up our master's plans" - replied the high priest as he gave his colleague a cold look.

"You have a point" - nodded Vermouth as she closed her eyes.

The high priest was silent for a few minutes until he heard his colleague's voice. She again had opened her eyes and was a little confused.

"What's wrong?" - The high priest asked as he looked at his colleague.

"Hmm, I think I see something, although his features are very much hidden by the damage done" - answered vermouth as she related what she saw.

"I think you'd better show it to me directly" - said the high priest - "Or can't you?"

"Hmm, give me a moment to adjust to this body and I can do it" - replied vermouth as she closed her eyes.

After another few minutes, she opened her eyes and began to recite an incantation.

The high priest frowned because the power his companion was releasing, was slightly greater than his own, all thanks to the difference in powers their vessels had.

"Ready" - vermouth said as she created a sphere of mist that slowly spread.

The high priest was silent as he saw an illusory image of Cattleya tied to a chair.

[What do you say?] - said a distorted male voice.

[I accept...] - Cattleya answered while biting her lip.

[Though I need something to prove that you won't betray me...] - said the male voice as a silhouette appeared in front of the demon woman.

The high priest frowned because he could not see the appearance of this stranger, though with this he had confirmed some of his suspicions. Such it seemed that Cattleya had been a spy since her mission failed, which explained her drastic increase in power.

"What do you think?" - sh asked as she looked at her elderly companion.

"That it is possible that Cattleya was responsible for the failure of our mission in Ankaji" - replied the high priest while frowning again - "By the way, is there any way to be able to know the identity of the stranger?"

"I would have to try another method of absorbing memories, although that could be dangerous, because I would end up being affected by the contract" - replied vermouth with a frown.

"Do it" - ordered the high priest.

"No" - replied vermouth neutrally - "I am willing to give my life for our lord Alba, but not for you".

"This is for Alba-sama" - replied the high priest, though he was not being honest, after all, the current Vermouth was a danger to his position as second-in-command to his god, a position he had earned by years of sacrifices in this emaciated body by the passage of time.

"No, you're just killing two birds with one stone," vermouth replied disdainfully, "And if you want to put our god's name on the table so badly, you can always do it yourself."

The high priest was silent as he watched the sphere of mist begin to shrink, returning to its original form and floating in front of him. This was vermouth's special ability, she could absorb the souls of her victims and get their memories, she could even separate them from her person and give them to someone else, that's why she had been manipulated in order to become one of Alba's apostles, although she still retained vestiges of her former personality, that's why her god didn't use her so often, because the more she used her abilities, the greater the loss of control the god had over this particular apostle.

"What do you expect?" - vermouth asked disdainfully, though he quickly began to shout.

"It seems Alba-sama didn't like your tone of voice," said the high priest disdainfully, though his expression changed when he heard how his god was telling him to do so. It was obvious what Alba wished for and such it seemed that she didn't want to risk losing Vermouth, who was her best spy, although this made it clear that her position was inferior to the woman's - "I understand..."

The high priest gritted his teeth before absorbing the sphere of mist, and when he did, he began to see and experience all that Cattleya had experienced, though he quickly began to destroy all useless memories. He was searching for quite a while before he saw what he wanted, the scene where Cattleya was tied up against the chair.

"I arrived just as I was telling her the benefits of the contract, this is perfect" - muttered the high priest as he tried to approach where the demon woman was, though when he did, he noticed something strange.

[I see we have visitors...] - said the distorted male voice.

"Impossible!" - exclaimed the high priest as he felt how everything around him seemed to darken, showing only the yellow eyes of the silhouette that slowly began to take a more serpentine shape.

The high priest tried to say something else as he watched as a strange green miasma began to ooze from the strange creature's body.

"What is this!" - The high priest exclaimed as he trembled at the strange presence of the goo that approached him.

[It is the punishment for breaking the contract with me] - replied the creature as it began to laugh madly.

The high priest tried to say something else, when he saw how the silhouette disappeared and showed the real person covering it, which was none other than the irregular his master had warned him - "You!"

Cloud didn't answer, he just narrowed his eyes before disappearing from the spot as the high priest was surrounded by the strange miasma.

vermouth, who had managed to regain control of her body, watched as the high priest stood still - "Bugart?"

The woman tried to look more closely at her companion, who seemed not to hear her, although she quickly stepped back because she sensed danger coming from him - "Bugart, react!"

vermouth continued to watch her colleague, only to see him begin to convulse as a strange black liquid gushed from his body - "Shit!"

The demon woman didn't know what to do in this situation, and from what she could see, her master was also perplexed that he still did nothing to try to save his apostle.

"Bugart, at least tell me who our enemy is!" - vermouth exclaimed as he tried to contact the high priest's consciousness.

"Irregular!" - shouted the high priest as he began to vomit black miasma - "Ibrebugar!"

Vermouth was silent as she let out a sigh of relief that she had been saved from a horrible fate because she could see how her colleague was suffering a slow and painful death, and what made everything worse, was that she also seemed to be suffering a death by drowning.

The woman tried to approach her ally's corpse when she saw that he had stopped moving, though she quickly backed away because she saw Bugart's body begin to wither away at great speed.

"What was that all about?" - vermouth muttered with a frown because this didn't seem like the result of breaking the contract.
