Chapter 203: Chapter 203: The Mechanical Clan Strikes
The T5 Mystic Bird only carries three types of missile weapons: Neutron Missiles, Antimatter Annihilation Missiles, and Proton Torpedoes. Each Mystic Bird's ammo hold contains a reserve of 100 Neutron Missiles, 300 Antimatter Annihilation Missiles, and 500 Proton Torpedoes, totaling 900 missiles. Mello divided these into three salvos, planning three waves of attacks aimed at destroying thirty T5 enemy warships per wave, with no need to conserve ammunition.
Upon receiving the attack order, both T5 Mystic Birds launched their first strike. Three Antimatter Annihilation Missiles combined with five Proton Torpedoes obliterated the shields of the enemy's mechanical warships, with some firepower to spare. Two Neutron Missiles followed up to complete the kill, destroying a T5 mechanical warship.
The plan might sound simple, but executing it was far from easy. Despite the targeting assistance from the AI, the vast distance between the two fleets and their movement made it challenging for the crew to achieve a perfect hit rate. Moreover, once missiles were launched, the enemy radar would immediately detect them, triggering shield activation and close-range interception.
However, the crew members operating the T5 Mystic Birds were seasoned veterans from the T4 Scorpion ships, well-accustomed to such operations. Feng Mo had full confidence in their ability to execute flawlessly.
Meanwhile, on the flagship of the Mechanical Clan fleet, Lore was intensely monitoring the defensive setup of the Beast Roar System displayed on his radar. The storied achievements of the Storm Fleet certainly gave him pause. Despite only ten ships in the Storm Fleet's line-up, many of which were specialized warships, Lore remained confident in the superior numbers and power of his Second Fleet.
Suddenly, alarms blared.
"Warning! Incoming barrage of interstellar missiles targeting our mechanical warships. Shields to maximum, initiate close-defense rapid-fire for interception."
Mello had strategically positioned the two T5 Mystic Birds near the Second Fleet, minimizing their response time. As the missiles hit the shields, the rapid-fire defense cannons of the Mechanical Fleet barely had time to activate.
"Alert! Shield energy depleted, shields breached!"
The warning blared across the control rooms of several T5 mechanical warships as massive fireballs engulfed their ships. Antimatter Annihilation Missiles and Proton Torpedoes tore through their defenses, triggering devastating explosions. Two of the powerful Neutron Missiles unleashed a destructive force that obliterated entire T5 mechanical warships, tearing them apart and incinerating the mechanical crew within.
Over forty enormous fireballs erupted within the ranks of the Second Fleet, casting a grim red glow. Lore's face turned ashen as he watched the radar display; the first wave of attacks had cost him forty-four T5 mechanical warships.
Mello's goal was to use the two Mystic Birds to eliminate sixty T5 mechanical ships in a single salvo. Although achieving that was unrealistic, the destruction of forty-four T5 warships was still a tremendous victory.
With the Mechanical Fleet now alert to the attack, their radar systems would intercept the next wave more effectively. In the second and third bombing runs, the Mystic Birds managed to destroy another fifty-three T5 ships. After the three salvos, the enemy fleet, originally at 370 T5 warships, was down to 273. A few unfortunate T4 ships caught in the explosions were also disabled, though only a handful.
Despite the losses, Lore was furious. He recalled all too well the complete destruction of the Third Fleet at the hands of these "cunning humans." Feng Mo, in particular, had thwarted the Mechanical Clan repeatedly, causing the demise of the Third Fleet. However, with most of the Mechanical Clan's forces tied up in the south against the Stellar Human Federation, only three fleets were left for operations in the chaotic star regions. With the Third Fleet gone, the Second Fleet was now their last hope for maintaining influence in this sector.
After completing the third bombing run, the two T5 Mystic Birds pivoted to retreat. Feng Mo promptly issued his next directive:
"Resupply the two Mystic Birds, then send them to conduct saturation bombing from behind the enemy fleet. Prepare all ships and the space station's 400 T4 laser cannons for a full attack. Arm the T5 Pegasus with 2000 T5-class interstellar missiles."
Once the two T5 Mystic Birds had crossed through interstellar space and returned to the Beast Roar System's main planet, the Mechanical Clan's Second Fleet emerged within range of the Storm Federation's radar.
Eagerly awaiting this moment, Feng Mo issued the command:
"Launch missile barrage! Fire the laser cannons on the space station! All ships, open fire with main and secondary cannons! Charge the T5 Cluster Lasers and target the enemy's T5 ships."
A sequence of rapid commands ensued, and the Mechanical Clan's Second Fleet, emerging from interstellar space, faced a devastating assault. Two thousand T5-class interstellar missiles trailed fiery streaks as they struck the fleet. Although the Mechanical Clan had prepared for interception, rapid-fire defense guns were mostly effective only against missiles, while laser cannons were much harder to intercept.
Over a thousand T4 starships and the space station's 300 laser cannons fired in unison, obliterating many T4 ships and T4 mechanical warships.
After one wave of interception, only about 800 missiles from the original 2000 remained. This still inflicted severe damage, igniting multiple enemy ships.
Feng Mo observed through the radar, seeing the enemy fleet's red blips dim as more than 500 enemy vessels were lost in the initial assault. The price of traveling through interstellar space had been steep. This was why Feng Mo always sent stealth bombers to scout interstellar spaces before sending his fleet in, ensuring the path was safe.
Interstellar space—a unique region between two star systems with unstable magnetic fields—restricted radar range. This limitation allowed the Storm Federation's radar to detect the Second Fleet while remaining unseen by them, a tactical advantage Feng Mo leveraged to devastating effect, taking out a
quarter of the enemy fleet in one swift strike.
