Chapter 111: Meeting Thor III

Dave laughed. "No, no, they're all yours. They'd probably start arguing again the moment I touched them."

Natasha chuckled softly, the swords at her side shifting back into bracelets. "Smart choice. They seem to like me better anyway."

Diana, who had been watching quietly, rolled her eyes. "Can we go now, or do you two want to keep flirting over cursed artifacts?"

Dave raised his hands in mock surrender. "Alright, let's go. Mexican food waits for no one."

Soon, they reached a local restaurant where they indulged in a feast, enjoying the lively atmosphere and the authentic Mexican cuisine. Dave, as always, took his time savoring the food while Diana teased him about his growing obsession with magic.

Back at the newly erected SHIELD facility near Mjölnir, the situation was far from peaceful.

"Sir, you need to see this," an agent said urgently, showing Phil a live feed. On the screen, a man fitting the description of Thor entered the facility. With ease, he overpowered several agents, forcing his way toward the crater where Mjölnir lay.

Phil observed intently, his expression thoughtful. "Long hair, brute strength... matches the Dave description," he mused, watching the man fight his way through.

"I have him in my sights. Should I take the shot?" Hawkeye's voice crackled through the comms, his bow at the ready as he tracked Thor's movements.

"No, wait," Phil replied, holding up a hand. "Let's see if he really is who he claims to be."

The cameras showed Thor reaching Mjölnir, his face lighting up with hope. With a confident smile, he grabbed the hammer. Yet, as he tried to lift it, his grin faltered. Mjölnir remained firmly on the ground, unmoving despite his best efforts.

"Why...?" Thor whispered, disbelief and anguish etched on his face. Falling to his knees, he gazed up at the sky, shouting in desperation. "WHY??"

Phil shook his head at the sight. "Surround him," he ordered calmly.

The agents moved swiftly, encircling Thor. He put up some resistance, but his despair seemed to sap his strength. Soon, they cuffed him with restraints and led him toward the facility's holding cells.

Phil sighed, rubbing his temples. "Contact Fury. Looks like we've found the man who claims to be a god—but for now, he's just another prisoner."

"also contact Agent Widow and call her back" he said as the agents nodded and then they both contacted Fury and Black Widow.

Back at the local restaurant, Dave was halfway through his 10th taco when Black Widow suddenly stood up, her expression alert. She placed her phone down on the table. "He's here," she said simply.

"You mean Thor?" Diana asked, her voice laced with curiosity. Dave, noticing the sauce on Diana's mouth, handed her a napkin with a small chuckle. "Clean up, clumsy," he teased, earning a pout from Diana. Black Widow couldn't help but smirk at the interaction, reminded again of Diana's endearing clumsiness.

"Let's go," Dave said, finishing the last bite of his taco as he tossed some bills onto the table to cover the meal. He stood and motioned for them to follow.

"Come on!" Black Widow called, already heading to the car. But Dave, with his usual flair, raised a hand. "I've had enough exercise for one day," he muttered. With a round wave of his hands, a glowing portal appeared, shimmering like liquid light.

"What—?" Black Widow started, staring at the portal in astonishment.

Dave stepped through first, casually walking onto the other side as if it were an ordinary door. He turned and gave them an amused look, his demeanor calm and composed. Diana gestured to Black Widow. "Go ahead, it's safe," she reassured her.

After a moment of hesitation, Black Widow nodded, impressed but unwilling to show it. She drove her car straight through the portal, emerging unscathed on the other side.

The SHIELD facility loomed before them as the portal shimmered out of existence. Dave dusted his hands and smirked. "Convenience is king," he said, leading the way inside while Diana and Black Widow exchanged a glance, one amused and the other slightly incredulous.

"You're fast! Were you already on the way?" Phil asked, surprised, as Dave arrived alongside Diana and Black Widow.

"No, I have better transport now," Dave replied casually. Phil raised an eyebrow, wondering what that might mean. He decided to ask Black Widow about it later. For now, he motioned for them to follow. "Come with me. We've got him imprisoned," he said, turning toward the holding area.

They reached the makeshift cell where Thor was being held. The god of thunder sat quietly on the bench, lost in thought, his shoulders hunched under the weight of his failure. Dave leaned casually against the wall, studying him.

"Is he the real Thor?" Phil asked, his tone uncertain.

Dave nodded. "Yep, that's him."

"But he couldn't lift Mjölnir," Phil pointed out, pulling out a tablet and showing a video of Thor's futile attempt to pick up the hammer.

"That's probably why he's on Earth," Dave said thoughtfully. "He's been banished by his father, stripped of his powers."

Phil frowned, looking at Dave skeptically. "You say that like it's a fact."

Dave shrugged. "I can sense it. There's no magic coursing through him right now. He's just a mortal man, lost and powerless."

Phil turned his gaze back to Thor, studying him in silence.

"I'm going to talk with him," Dave said, as Phil nodded and entered the password to unlock the door. The heavy door slid open, and Dave walked in, taking a seat across from Thor.

"Can you tell me why you're on Earth—or, as you'd call it, Midgard?" Dave asked, leaning back in his chair.

Thor raised his head, his eyes narrowing. "You know who I am?" he asked cautiously.

"Yes," Dave replied. "Thor, the God of Thunder."

Thor sighed deeply, his shoulders slumping. "I am no god," he said bitterly. "I even caused the death of my father."

Dave studied him closely, his expression calm. It seems Loki is already here, he thought before speaking. "Did you see it yourself?" Dave asked.

Thor shook his head. "No. My brother told me," he admitted.

Dave chuckled softly, leaning forward. "How amusing. Your father has died, but no one has called for you to see him one last time before the burial—or whatever traditions you have for honoring the dead," Dave said, his tone pointed.

Thor's eyes snapped to him. "What are you implying?" he demanded.
