Chapter 113: Thor
Dave and Black Widow, after tracking Thor and Dr. Selvig, arrived at a bar where they saw an amusing scene.
"Another!!!" Dr. Selvig shouted, raising his drink.
"Another!!" Thor echoed, slamming his mug down on the table.
Both burst into laughter as they got increasingly drunk.
"He's a god, right?" Black Widow asked, watching Thor and Selvig with mild disbelief.
Dave shrugged, downing his own beer. "Ancient humans would call you a god if you showed them a flashlight. 'Natasha, the God of Light,'" he said with a smirk.
Black Widow chuckled, understanding his point. "So, what are they really?" she asked, sipping her beer.
"Think of them as another race of humans, but this one was born in a magical environment and learned to use it. Each member of their race has their own unique magical power. In Thor's case, it's lightning or thunder," Dave explained.
Black Widow nodded thoughtfully, processing his explanation.
"So, everyone there has some powers?" Black Widow asked.
Dave shrugged. "Don't know for sure, but they're still many times more powerful than Earthlings," he said as she nodded thoughtfully.
"What about you?" she asked, looking at him curiously. "I mean, compared to them, where do you stand?"
Dave thought for a moment. "Maybe one touch from me is enough to destroy their whole world easily," he said casually.
Black Widow nodded, hiding her disbelief. Although she knew he was strong, this level of confidence still caught her off guard. "You sound more like a god to me now," she said.
"Gods are nothing but people with a high level of power," Dave replied as he stood up. "Let's go. These two drunkards are leaving," he said, gesturing to Thor and Selvig. He also picked up the drunk Diana, who was barely conscious.
"She's supposed to be my secretary, but I'm acting like her servant now," Dave said with a helpless chuckle as Diana burped on his shoulder.
"She's totally wasted," Black Widow commented as Dave carefully put Diana in the car, draping his coat over her as a blanket.
"Do you have a spare?" Black Widow asked, noticing his coat was now being used.
"Even if I stand in front of the sun, I wouldn't feel a thing. It was just for fashion; don't mind me," Dave replied with a smirk.
Black Widow nodded, amused by his nonchalant demeanor.
As they got into the car, the ride back was quiet, save for the occasional snore from Diana. Black Widow kept glancing at Dave, who leaned back in his seat, seemingly lost in thought, while they followed after Thor car.
"If you don't mind me asking, where did you get all these powers? Was it Trish who gave you your powers?" Black Widow asked as Dave looked at her.
"These powers, huh..." Dave muttered. "Well, my demonic powers do come from Trish," he admitted, nodding, as Black Widow studied him closely.
"She must be quite a high-level demon," Natasha said thoughtfully. "I mean, the two demons you introduced me to gave me enough power to destroy a city in one slash, but you... you could destroy a whole world. I can't even imagine how powerful Trish is if she's like that, and yet, she just fawns over you." She sighed, shaking her head.
Dave chuckled lightly. "Well, I do have a certain charm, you know."
Black Widow rolled her eyes. "Don't think that charm works on me. To me, you're still a kid," she quipped.
Dave smirked, leaning slightly toward her. "That's a pity. Personally, I think fine women age like wine, and you look like a prime, premium vintage to me."
Natasha suddenly felt her heart skip a beat, but she masked her reaction. "No wonder you have four women as your girlfriends," she said with a scoff. "With a tongue like yours, you could probably make any woman willingly fall for you."
Dave's expression shifted to one of mischief as he placed his hand on her wrist and gently pulled her closer. "Well, would you?" he asked softly, his gaze locking onto hers.
For a moment, Natasha found herself lost in his piercing eyes. Her breath caught as he leaned in and suddenly kissed her. She froze, stunned by his boldness, but a part of her instinctively kissed him back before pulling away in shock. "What are you doing?" she demanded, her face flushed.
Dave leaned back, his grin unabated. "You were looking into my eyes like you wanted to kiss me. So, I simply obliged," he said nonchalantly.
Black Widow quickly exited the car, her face still red. "I need some time alone," she muttered, walking away briskly.
Dave watched her go, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Well, sooner or later, I'll make you mine," he murmured under his breath. Leaning back in his seat, he propped his leg up on the dashboard and closed his eyes, a picture of casual confidence.
Natasha, walking some distance away, gazed into the starry sky, her mind drifting back to her past. The memories of her graduation from the Red Room played vividly in her mind, filling her with a mix of pain and regret.
That hospital ward... it was the place where she had been turned into what she was today.
"Even if I love you, I can't be your woman," she murmured softly, clenching her fists. "I'm nothing but a monster who can't even become a mother," she added through gritted teeth, tears silently slipping down her cheeks.
But Natasha quickly wiped them away and took a deep breath, forcing her emotions under control. She couldn't let herself be consumed by these thoughts now.
"I can't be with you—or anyone," she whispered before turning and walking back to the car.
As she approached, Dave noticed her return and quipped, "Did you go to pee?"
Black Widow's face instantly turned red with a mix of anger and embarrassment. "Shut up!" she snapped, her inner turmoil got lost in a instant as she heard his nonsense.
