Superman: The Lost Warrior

Chapter 11: One Small Problem

Damian's POV

We hear cries coming from down the street. Turning towards the noise, we see a young girl running away from a large group of men. She sprints toward us, clutching Zara's hand and pleading, "Please help me! They're trying to kidnap me." Then, I hear a familiar voice call out.

"Just give her back. She's my property, and you don't want any trouble," the voice growls. My blood boils when I realize it's the same guy who harassed Zara last week. As I step forward to deal with him, Zara stops me by putting a hand on my arm. I'm shocked. At first, I think she plans to give the girl up, but then she says, "Let me deal with this."

Zara's POV

The young girl, maybe thirteen or fourteen, reaches us and clings to my hand, her tears streaming down her face. "Please help me," she sobs. "They want to kidnap me."

Before I can process her words, I hear a voice that makes my stomach churn. "Just give her back. She's my property, and you don't want any trouble." The voice belongs to that same sleazy guy Damian dealt with last week. My gaze snaps to him, and my anger flares when I see his smug expression. He recovered quickly—and now he's targeting younger girls? Not on my watch.

Damian takes a step forward, but I stop him. "Let me deal with this," I say firmly. He hesitates, clearly surprised, but then steps back.

I stride toward the man, anger coursing through my veins. His companions eye me nervously, but their leader sneers, unbothered. "Oh, it's you again," he says. "If you ditch that little boyfriend of yours, maybe I could show you a good time." He reaches for my chin, and I smack his hand away with enough force to make him stumble.

"How dare—" he starts, but I'm done listening. I punch him square in the chest, sending him crashing into a nearby wall. His companions freeze in shock, their faces pale.

I glare at them. "Who's next?" I ask coldly. They scatter like scared mice, with two of them dragging their unconscious leader away.

When the dust settles, I turn back to the girl, who smiles weakly at me before her knees give out. She collapses in my arms, unconscious.

"We need to get her to a hospital," I say, panic creeping into my voice. I can't let her die. Damian nods, and I scoop her up, adrenaline giving me the strength to carry her as we sprint to the nearest hospital.

At the Hospital

We rush into the emergency room, explaining the situation to the staff. A nurse takes the girl from my arms and assures us she'll be taken care of. Minutes later, Damian talks to one of the doctors while I sit in the waiting area, my heart pounding.

"Is she okay?" I ask as Damian returns.

"She's fine," he assures me. "They'll keep her overnight for observation. She should be awake by tomorrow."

I let out a sigh of relief and stand. "We'll come back tomorrow," I say. Damian nods, and together we leave the hospital, walking silently back to headquarters. Despite everything, I feel a flicker of hope that we managed to help her—but I can't shake the thought of what might have happened if we hadn't been there.
