Chapter 12: One Small Problem II
Kara's POV
"No way, did he die? Did you beat up the rest? Did they hurt you?" I ask Zara, checking her temperature and inspecting her for any injuries. "I'm fine," she says, gently pushing me off. "Are you sure you are okay?" I ask her again. "Fine, great, splendid. I'm okay. Just give me some space," she tells me. I nod and take one step away from her. "This okay?" I ask, and she just groans and puts a pillow on her face, making everyone in the room laugh—except Bruce.
Zara's POV
"What you did was incredibly risky. You don't even know if anyone else was watching at that time," Mr. Wayne says very seriously. Before I can reply, Kara interjects. "Come on, Bruce, cut her some slack. We don't say anything when you beat up bad guys," she says.
Mr. Wayne shakes his head. "This is different. Only you and Damian were out there. What if something happened?" he argues. Kal-El pats him on the shoulder. "Nothing happened, Bruce. You've got to relax," he says. However, Mr. Wayne just walks out of the room.
"Did I do something wrong?" I ask, sitting up.
"It's okay," Kara reassures me. I sigh. Then I walk out of the room and see Bruce in another room meditating.
"What do you want?" he asks immediately when I enter.
"I just wanted to apologize," I say quietly. He glances at me with a look of surprise before saying, "No need." I am about to ask why when he ushers me out of the room. I feel surprised but know he must have his reasons, so I skip all the way back to Kara and the rest.
When I return, Kara immediately pulls me aside. "Did anything else happen outside? Like, between just you and Damian?" she asks with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
I look at her, wondering what she means, but then recall having a warm feeling when Damian held my hand earlier. Of course, I don't tell her that—she would probably make a big deal out of it. "No, nothing happened," I say, trying to keep my tone neutral.
Kara narrows her eyes at me, clearly not buying it. "Hmm. If you say so," she replies, smirking. Before I can defend myself, Damian walks into the room.
Damian's POV
I walk into the room and immediately notice Zara looking flustered as Kara stands next to her with that trademark smirk of hers. "What did I miss?" I ask, glancing between the two.
"Oh, nothing," Kara says, clearly enjoying whatever she thinks she knows. Zara looks at me briefly before turning away, her face having an expression of annoyance. I raise an eyebrow, curious but deciding not to press the issue.
"Bruce still mad?" I ask Zara instead.
"He's not mad," she replies, still avoiding eye contact. "At least, I don't think he is."
Kara chuckles. "Oh, he's mad. He just hides it better than the rest of us." She then pats Zara on the back. "You really know how to stir up trouble, sis."
Zara sighs and flops onto the couch. "I can't win with you, can I?" she mutters, burying her face in a couch cushion.
