Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Charles

"Logan, we're here!"

"We're over here, buddy!"

"Come on, the boat's this way!"

The salty scent of the sea wafted into their nostrils as Alex and Wolverine arrived at the shoreline. Before they could take a proper look around, the excited voices of "Silver Fox" Kara and the other mutants rang out.

At that moment, Kara and the others stood on the deck of a small yacht. Perhaps it was the prospect of finally escaping this hellish island, but their faces were lit with unmistakable joy and excitement. Noticing Alex and Wolverine Logan's arrival, they cheered and waved vigorously, with one person even holding up a blade Alex had entrusted to them.

"Come on, let's go!"

Understanding their excitement perfectly, Alex exchanged a brief smile with Logan before quickly heading toward the yacht. Under the eager gazes of the others, they soon boarded successfully.

"Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!"

"They're back safely!"

"This is amazing—we're finally leaving this place!"

The moment Alex and Logan set foot on the yacht, they were met with a hero's welcome. Surrounded by cheering faces, the two couldn't help but smile as they soaked in the celebratory atmosphere.

"Here's your knife—I didn't lose a single one!"

Amid the cheers, a young boy laughed as he pushed through the crowd, approaching Alex with the adamantium blades he had entrusted to him during the fight with Sabretooth.

"Thanks!"

Alex glanced at the blades, noting that the dagger he had used to cut through the iron cage was missing. However, he didn't mind and accepted the blades with a casual nod of gratitude.

"They can keep the dagger as a memento," he thought, slinging the adamantium blades over his back. These were gifts for Hit-Girl and the Punisher, and he couldn't afford to lose them.

"Vroom!"

Just then, the yacht trembled as the engine roared to life, beginning its slow departure from the island's surrounding waters. This prompted another round of jubilant shouts from the crowd.

"Sorry, I'm heading over there!"

Logan whispered to Alex before walking off in another direction. Following his gaze, Alex saw Kara waiting in the distance and immediately understood.

"So, off to see your sweetheart, huh?"

As Alex silently teased Wolverine's retreat, a deep and magnetic male voice spoke behind him.

"Young man, may I have a word?"

Turning around, Alex found himself face-to-face with a man in a wheelchair, being pushed forward by a beautiful young woman.

The man in the wheelchair wasn't particularly handsome, nor was he unattractive. His bald head gleamed under the sun, and his neatly tailored suit gave him an unassuming, even ordinary appearance. Yet, he radiated a charisma that commanded attention—an aura of true inner strength and magnetism.

"Aizen!"

The man's presence sparked a connection in Alex's mind to Sosuke Aizen, the early-stage antagonist from Bleach. Though Aizen was undoubtedly a villain, his every action exuded an inexplicable charm, making it hard to truly hate him. Even across dimensions, Alex could feel that pull.

The man before him evoked a similar sense of admiration. Alex couldn't help but wonder if this guy was also hiding a boss-level personality beneath his calm exterior.

The wheelchair rolled closer under the young woman's guidance. The man smiled up at Alex, who snapped out of his thoughts and frowned slightly in confusion.

"Who are you?"

"Charles Francis Xavier," the man introduced himself with a gentle smile, his demeanor carrying an air of scholarly elegance uncommon among Westerners. "You may call me Charles."

"Alex. My name's Alex," he replied politely before cutting to the chase. "So, what do you want to talk about?"

"If you don't mind, could we find a quieter place to chat?"

"Sure."

Alex glanced around at the still-cheering crowd. The noise made it clear that this wasn't the right setting for a conversation.

"This way, please."

The young woman pushing Charles' wheelchair gave Alex a curious glance as they moved toward a quieter part of the deck. Alex followed without hesitation.

"This is my student, Jean Grey," Charles said once they arrived, turning his wheelchair to face Alex.

"Hello, Mr. Alex."

"Hello, Miss Grey."

They exchanged polite nods before Alex turned to Charles. "I'm the straightforward type, so just get to the point. What do you want to talk about?"

"Straightforward people are always the most appreciated," Charles replied with a chuckle. Then, his expression turned serious. "I'd like to discuss the matter of mutants."

"Mutants?"

Alex paused, quickly catching on. Does this guy think I'm a mutant, too?

"You're not trying to say I'm a mutant, are you?"

To Alex's surprise, Charles immediately shook his head. "No, I know very well that you're not a mutant. And that's not the issue I want to discuss."

"Good to hear."

Alex breathed a small sigh of relief but couldn't resist asking, "By the way, I still don't fully understand the definition of a mutant. How are they different from superpowered beings?"

Charles smiled faintly. "On the surface, there's no significant difference. Both are humans with extraordinary abilities. However, at their core, mutants represent a new evolutionary step—a brand-new species of humanity."

"New humanity?"

Alex stared at Charles, shocked. He had encountered many superpowered individuals, but mutants were a recent discovery for him. Did this mean their potential surpassed that of superpowered humans?

"Precisely. Mutants are the next step in human evolution. One day, this new humanity will replace the old, and traditional humans will become a thing of the past."

Charles' smile remained warm, but to Alex, he now seemed even more like the mastermind-level Aizen from earlier.

"Is this guy another secret boss?!"
