A boy was running as fast as he could in a rocky wasteland while a large green lizard monster with sharp teeth and claws was chasing after him.

The boy was running in an area where there were a lot of large rocks, so with his small body he was able to go between them easily.

On the other hand, as the lizard monster had a large body, it was having some trouble traversing this area.

From the steady steps and determined look of the boy, it looked like he was not running aimlessly and had a plan in mind.

That turned out to be true when he came across a well hidden cave in one of the rocks.

Currently the boy was not in the sight of the lizard monster who was trying to go through a narrow gap between two rocks. So he took advantage of that and immediately hid himself in that cave.

The cave was narrow but as the boy's body was small, he had no trouble getting inside. Then he wrapped his whole body in the robe he was wearing and sat quietly in the cave while straining his ears.

Very soon he heard the heavy footsteps of the lizard monster that was chasing after him. It wandered around the area for some time and then moved away.

But even after hearing the footsteps of the monster moving away, this little boy did not move. He still waited inside the cave without moving.

Soon he heard the footsteps coming back but this time it did not stay for long. He heard a loud roar and the lizard monster again started running toward a different direction.

Only after making sure that the footsteps went far away, the boy crawled out of the cave. He looked around to make sure no other trouble was around this time. Only after making sure that he was safe for the time being, he quickly started going toward the same direction from where he came running.

This boy was named Alexis and he was only 9 years old. The location where he currently was in was an infamous danger zone called the "Fallen Dragon Wasteland", where even veteran adventurers did not dare to enter lightly.

Alexis was not really strong enough to disregard the dangers of this place. He might have a stronger body than most 9 year olds as he had been training his body diligently for almost 5 years but any adult would not have any trouble overpowering him easily.

As for the reason why Alexis was in this super dangerous place, he was here to search for something that he very badly needed and that item was the blood of a dragon.

According to many legends, the name Fallen Dragon Wasteland was not rubbish. In the ancient era when the powerful gods fought amongst themselves in massive scale wars, a true ancient dragon had really fallen in this region.

True dragons were an extremely powerful race and the fallen body of the dragon had given birth to this wasteland. The aura of the dragon also filled the whole wasteland.

Many monsters who were attracted to the aura of a true dragon came here and made this area their home. That was how this place turned into a dangerous danger zone.

Alexis had heard some rumours about the depths of the danger zone having still intact parts of the true dragon and after investing this place a little bit with his limited capability, he found that there was a high possibility for that rumour to be true. That was the reason why he was here.

As Alexis was scanning his surroundings cautiously and was looking around, he soon saw a dot in the sky coming toward him. Immediately Alexis hid himself behind a large rock and covered his whole body with his robe again.

This robe was the only reason why Alexis was even taking this risk. Even though he was from a noble baron family, his mother was a commoner. So both him and his mother were treated extremely badly by everyone else including his father, baron Lapis.

Alexis' grandfather was a great adventurer according to his mother and this robe was one of the things he had left behind. This robe had a function to hide the presence of the person if they completely covered themselves in it.

Alexis had managed to come quite deeper inside the danger zone and this robe was vastly responsible for that. Without it he would definitely have become monster food a long time ago.

As Alexis hid himself with the robe, he still kept an eye out for the monster that was coming toward his location. Soon the monster got closer and Alexis was able to see it.

This monster was also a lizard-like monster and was slightly smaller in size than the previous lizard monster that was chasing him. But this monster had wings on its back and the aura it gave off was also more scary.

So with fear, Alexis realised that this monster belonged to a sub-dagon species called Wyvern. They were extremely powerful and could easily defeat the lizard monster that was chasing him before.

After landing a little bit away from the location where Alexis was hiding, this wyvern laid down on the ground comfortably and closed its eyes. It looked like this monster did not come here after detecting Alexis' presence but came here to rest because it looked like a good resting spot.

But this created a big problem for Alexis. If he wanted to go deeper inside the danger zone, he needed to go past the sleeping wyvern. But the senses of the wyvern were very strong, even in sleeping state. So if Alexis got too close to this monster, he would immediately be killed.

This was a big trouble for Alexis as he could not just wait here and waste his time. He needed to reach the depths of the Fallen Dragon Wasteland to get his hand on the dragon blood.

He did not have much food with him and normally a sub-dragon like wyverns would sleep for a long time. So he did not have that much time in his hand.

Alexis observed the wyvern for some time and became sure that for the time being it was in deep sleep. So he encouraged himself and made the risky decision of sneaking past the monster while it was asleep.

After making his decision, Alexis did not take action immediately. He continued waiting for a little bit longer. The wyvern had just fallen asleep so he decided to wait for a little bit to allow the wyvern's sleep to become deeper.

After about an hour, Alexis finally started moving. He made sure that he was covering himself properly with the robe and slowly started to move toward the back of the wyvern.

Alexis was very cautious during this time and made sure to keep an eye on the wyvern while moving. He also did his best to make as little noise as possible while walking.

This went extremely well for Alexis and even when he got quite close to it, the wyvern did not show any reaction. After the most heart pumping walk of his life, Alexis finally was able to walk past the sleeping wyvern.

But just as he was about to be relieved, his feet landed on a loose rock and it rolled away while making very little sound. But for the powerful sense of a wyvern, this much sound was enough to wake it up.

The red scaled wyvern immediately opened its eyes and lifted its head. Then without wasting any time, it opened its mouth and fire came out from it which scorched the whole area from where the sound came from. Then the wyvern looked at the scorched area for a second and went back to sleep again.

Now, was Alexis able to survive this ?
