Team Order

Chapter 8: Breaking In

Rishi hid behind a wall, trying carefully not to be spotted by the Guardsmen. David had already shut down the cameras and opened a secret passage for Rishi but the mole of The Order said that "he could only do so much" not to give away his true identity and left the Guardsmen on.

Rishi could hear the mechanical march of the armed robots as they made their way through the hallway. The fact that there was no sound other than the heavy footsteps of the Guardsmen made it a lot more scarier. One wrong move and he could be blasted into a million pieces and the fate of humanity along with him. The rebel held his newly made weapon in his hand and clutched it as hard as possible. The dodgy woman had clearly instructed him to target the scientists, who were working in a lab within the base. Since she apparently knew how the Order base worked, she stated that the lab wasn't heavily guarded. Rishi hoped that he could trust her, potentially with his life.

A Guardsman suddenly stopped and rotated his head around, its glowing intense red eyes glaring at anything in sight. Rishi thought that he was safe but little did he know that the Guardsman had a thermal sensor built in. As soon as it recognised a body temperature behind the wall that it couldn't identify as a member of The Order, it immediately rose its blaster and started firing without warning. Rishi managed to roll on the floor, dodging the bright beam, and thrusted the sword into the robot's chest. And with that, the robot slowly limped downwards as its eyes grew dimmer until it glowed no more, signalling that it was deactivated. Rishi gently put it down on the floor carefully and not make any noise.

"Is it ready?" asked Ollie impatiently as he watched Shaun putting the metal casing over the wires and noisily nailing it down with an electric screwdriver.

"Ssshh! I'm focusing" Shaun said as he tried to hold the screwdriver straight. "It should be ready before Travis gets here. I heard that he and the others went to check on the Swordsmaster. They should be arriving in an hour."

"Wait! Did you hear that?" Ollie asked as he stopped Shaun.

"No, there's nothing there." concluded Shaun.

"I'm going to check it out." Ollie said as he slowly crawled to behind the table. After a few moments he found that there was nothing. "Eh, guess you're right, there was nothi-" Unexpectedly and swiftly, Ollie felt a sharp weapon against his throat.

"That was easier than I thought" ,said the intruder as he held the scientist like a hostage. Ollie felt that there were no words coming out his mouth. Shaun stumbled to his feet reached for his weapon but Rishi immediately responded, "You wouldn't want to do that, otherwise your friend here will feel excruciating pain."

"Friend? I wouldn't even consider him a colleague!" Shaun exclaimed as Ollie responded by rolling his eyes. "And anyways, the Guardsmen and Travis would find you and have your head for this." As soon as he said that a Guardsman walked into the room. "Ay buddy! Why don't you help out a friend here and kill this stranger." Instead, though, the Guardsman held his menacing- looking blaster at Shaun. "Stupid robot! Well looks like the GUARDSMEN won't have your head for this... but I hope Travis does."

"Ha! You really think that your pathetic leader can stop me? You are utterly hopeless" stated Rishi. "Looks like you need some time-out" and as if the robot responded, it opened its outsides up like a suit, revealing empty space.

"What! Do you want me to go inside there? You know I'm claustrophobic!"

"I don't actually." responded Rishi smugly as he forced Shaun to walk into the war-machine.

"Hey! It feels pretty comfortable in here, but it kind of stinks though." said Shaun. The robot then closed itself and started moving around the room by itself. "Maybe I should take back what I said about it being uncomfortable..."
