Chapter 13: Chapter 13: The Defeat of Giyard
Raelia and Jonady saw Giyard charging toward them at full speed, rage twisting his demonic features. Quickly dismounting their horse, Jonady took the initiative.
— "Lightning Flash!"
The spell burst from his hands, unleashing a rain of fine blades of lightning toward Giyard. The demon raised his left arm to shield himself, but the bolts struck him directly, grievously wounding him. He howled in pain: — "Pathetic humans!"
Without hesitation, Raelia rushed forward, her sword gleaming under the sun.
She engaged Giyard in a fierce battle, each strike resounding like thunder.
Despite their difference in size, Raelia held her ground against the demon.
Her agility and precision far outweighed her opponent's brute strength, while Jonady observed from a distance, admiring the grace and determination of the young woman.
Meanwhile, Ednia's archers unleashed volleys of arrows, several of them embedding themselves in Giyard's back. The demon roared in pain, but his fury only heightened his rage.
Not far away, Gilbert had just finished neutralizing a group of demons. Spotting Raelia locked in battle, he rushed to her aid. Reaching her side, he grinned and said: — "Need a hand, Rael?"
She replied with a confident smile, her eyes still fixed on Giyard: — "Let's finish this demon, Gil."
The human mages, providing support, summoned towering stone golems to harass the enemy troops. One of these colossi charged at Giyard, who, in a fit of rage, cleaved it in two with a single sword strike.
But behind the shattered golem was Raelia. Seizing the opening, she struck with precision, severing Giyard's right arm—the one holding his massive sword.
Disarmed and mutilated, Giyard howled in pain and hatred. The anguish in his blazing eyes drove him to a final, desperate attempt to crush Raelia with his bare hands. But Gilbert, swift and unrelenting, intervened.
— "Not this time!"
Taking advantage of the distraction, he plunged his sword into the demon's abdomen, delivering a fatal blow. Giyard's massive body wavered before collapsing heavily to the ground, ending his reign of terror.
With their leader dead, the remaining demons, now reduced to about thirty, surrendered without resistance. Ednia's soldiers and mages encircled them, sealing their fate.
Standing in the middle of the battlefield, Raelia raised her bloodstained sword and declared in a strong voice: — "With this, Ednia claims victory!"
Her words were met with a unanimous cry of triumph. Soldiers, mages, and generals alike celebrated their victory together, their voices echoing across the plains.
Not far away, Jonady, exhausted after depleting his magical reserves, wavered. Lord Robert, seeing him stumble, caught him just in time. — "You fought well, boy," Robert said with an approving smile.
Jonady, gasping for breath, looked up at the general and managed a weak but sincere smile. He knew they had won a victory that would go down in history.
They were the victors.
