The Beginning Adventure of the New Monarch

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: A New Era

Four days had passed since King Henri Edonia's announcement, naming Jonady as the new monarch.

Though this decision had surprised the people, it was quickly accepted. The leadership Jonady had demonstrated during the war, along with his strategic decisions, had already earned the respect of the citizens.

Even the generals, initially skeptical, found no reason to object.

Jonady was now settled in the royal castle specifically in the office of the former king, a majestic room filled with refinement.

The floor was covered with white carpeting bordered in gold, and precious vases adorned the corners of the room.

A massive bookshelf, filled with books bound in gold stood behind his desk while a piano elegantly sat at the far end of the room.

However, Jonady remained faithful to his usual attire he still wore the white jacket and black jeans he had donned when he was summoned.

This outfit provided him with a comfort that no royal garment seemed to match.

That day, Jonady was working with four ministers of the kingdom.

They were reviewing the royal accounts, examining each document with care the kingdom's finances accumulated through taxes and various revenues were the focus of their discussion. Stacks of papers filled his desk as he signed each necessary document.

A soft knock echoed at the door.

— "Come in," Jonady said without looking up.

Gilbert, his loyal ally and renowned general, entered. He was holding a thick dossier in his hands and approached calmly.

— "Your Majesty, here is a report on the embezzlement of funds," Gilbert announced, placing the dossier on the desk.

Jonady picked it up and skimmed through it quickly. His brows furrowed and he let out a soft sigh.

— "Drastic reforms will be necessary" he declared. "The problem isn't just corruption.Where could I recruit competent and honest officials to restore order?" he asked almost to himself.

Gilbert who had sat down across from him, responded with assurance.

— "The Ednia Amiria Academy is one of the most renowned in the kingdom, Your Majesty.

If you're looking for qualified people, that's where you should start."

Jonady smiled slightly at this suggestion before he could reply, the door swung open forcefully. Raelia made a triumphant entrance, her radiant smile lighting up the room.

She was wearing casual clothes, far from the usual royal attire, and her enthusiasm was palpable.

— "Jonady, come to the city with me!" she exclaimed, completely ignoring the studious atmosphere in the room.

Gilbert turned toward her with an expression that was half-amused half-surprised.

The ministers, on the other hand, seemed slightly taken aback by this spontaneous interruption. Jonady, who had been absorbed in his administrative concerns looked up at Raelia.

A discreet smile appeared on his face betraying a mix of exasperation and camaraderie.

— "Raelia I'm a little bit busy," he replied, pointing to the piles of documents in front of him.

— "And you'll always be," she retorted with a mischievous wink. "But a break wouldn't hurt. Look at you, you're becoming as stiff as the bureaucrats you want to reform."

Her remark made Gilbert chuckle softly, and even the ministers exchanged amused glances. Jonady, realizing she was right, set down his pen and straightened up.

— "Alright," he conceded, standing up. "Gilbert, I leave the temporary management of affairs to you until my return. Try not to have too much fun without me," he added with a smirk.

Raelia burst out laughing, gently pulling Jonady by the hand to drag him out of the room.

— "Come on, before you change your mind!" she called cheerfully.

As they left the office, Jonady felt a breath of fresh air.

Even during this period of political transition these stolen moments were essential to remind him that, behind the crushing responsibilities he remained human.

A new era was unfolding for the kingdom and he was ready to build it with boldness, determination... and a bit of recklessness.
