The Beginning Adventure of the New Monarch

Chapter 29: Chapter 29 Preparation

Raelia the princess of the kingdom, had always been a spirited and independent individual. Although she was the eldest of the royal family her character and choices often defied traditional expectations.

From a young age, she admired the military, showing a keen interest in tactics and training.

At the age of 16, she enrolled in the kingdom's military academy, a bold decision her parents supported but which garnered criticism from certain factions within the nobility.

Many saw her as a "tomboy" and disapproved of a noblewoman mingling with the common folk. Raelia however could not care less she never felt superior because of her status and firmly believed in equality among all classes.

The previous evening in her chamber, Raelia spoke with her childhood friend and servant Nilyna. Dressed in a pink and brown nightgown, her hair tied into a ponytail she sat on her bed.

Nilyna a young very beautiful woman with bronze skin and long red braids sat beside her.

She wore her servant's uniform: an elegant, short-sleeved dress, black gloves, and a skirt with a long slit revealing thigh-high stockings.

Nilyna came from a prestigious lineage of servants who had served the Ednia family for generations. Trained from birth Nilyna was not merely a servant but also an expert in close protection and assassination ready to defend the royal family at any cost.

Despite their differing status, Nilyna and Raelia had grown up together, forming a deep friendship. They spoke as equals, unconcerned by social barriers.

— "So" Nilyna asked with a playful smile, "how's things with the monarch?"

Raelia blushed slightly and averted her gaze.

— "Nothing special" she replied. "He's been locked away in his office for three days. He works eats and sleeps there. He doesn't even leave."

Nilyna sighed, placing her hand to her forehead with an exasperated expression. A thought crossed her mind: If this keeps up it will take a thousand years before we have heirs for the kingdom.

She sat up straighter, giving Raelia a knowing look and a smile.

— "Tomorrow, go see him pull him out of his office. Ask him to go out in the city. It's not good for him to overwork himself. We need a healthy king."

Raelia blushed even more, but nodded shyly. "Alright," she murmured, convinced by her friend's words.

The next day keeping her promise, Raelia went to see Jonady in his office.

After a few words of encouragement and a determined yet inviting smile she managed to persuade him to take a break. Jonady aware that he needed to preserve his strength, eventually relented.

He instructed his servants to prepare a discreet outfit.

To blend in among the common people, he chose simple clothes similar to those of peasants.

A worn-out shirt, a pair of canvas pants, and a brown cloak to hide his royal features.

He added round glasses, an unusual touch that would help mask his identity.

Raelia too traded her royal garments for a modest outfit: a beige linen dress with a light cloak and a scarf tied around her hair to conceal her identity. Dressed this way, they were ready for their excursion.

For added security, five royal guards, dressed inconspicuously, accompanied them.

The small group exited the castle through a side gate avoiding the notice of courtiers and servants. Once outside, they made their way toward the bustling heart of the capital.
