Chapter 11_ Meet-and-Greet
“…Hold my hand… Riku… why won’t you hold my hand anymore…?”
My body—it was like I couldn’t look at her. It hurt. Why did it hurt so much to look at her?
Why… why were there tears coming out of my eyes?
Since when was I capable of crying…?
How would a normal person act.
I don’t know.
I don’t know how to help.
I’m useless.

I felt a weird memory flow through my head for a brief moment.
The idol group had just finished their performance. It was pretty interesting, watching their singing and dancing from so close up.
“Sir, please follow me to the meet-and-greet area.”
I didn’t really want to go, but I guess it was just a part of the process.
I’m still confused about that memory. Just what on earth was it? For some reason, I don’t remember any of the context to it… am I missing something…? There was no way for me to find out anything for the time being, but it seemed that listening to their performance was what caused it to flash in my mind.
I shouldn’t be capable of forgetting anything. This didn’t make much sense.
“Sir…”
“Sorry, I was just a bit zoned out.”
Following the staff member, we walked through a bright blue hallway that eventually led into a large room. There were stalls set up for each member of the group, with long rope dividers leading to each of them. Their names were printed on the front of their stalls, and each had a staff member supervising their area.
I’d never gone to something like this before. It seemed almost like airport security.
…
“You’ve got a few minutes before the general tickets get to enter. Feel free to talk to any of them and collect their merchandise. Since you’re a Gold VIP ticket holder, you’ll also be able to talk to them backstage as well.”
“Ah, I see.”
The man from earlier was standing beside me, seemingly unable to control his excitement.
As soon as the staff member was done with his explanation, the man rushed straight to Chihiro-san’s stall.
I guess I’ll talk to some of them. Maybe I’d be able to find out more about what was going on with that memory.
I made my way over to the left-most member. Her name was Umeko, and she seemed like the most innocent-looking member of the group.
I suppose I’ll try to keep up a natural-sounding conversation.
“Hey, Umeko-san.”
“O-oh, hi! How are you?”
“I’m alright. Your dancing was really good.”
“Really? Thank you so much! I’m glad you like it!”
What to talk about…
She was twirling her hair awkwardly, so it didn’t seem like she was going to be initiating any topics. She did seem pretty shy from what I could see earlier.
“Is it fun being an idol?”
“Yeah! It’s hard work, but being praised by fans who support you is really motivating! I don’t regret it at all, and I’d do it all again if I was given the option~.”
“That’s good.”
“Here, um, do you want some T-shirts? Or maybe a photo with me?”
I didn’t want either.
But that’d be a little awkward.
“I’ll just take a T-shirt.”
“Alright!”
She handed me a t-shirt with her name printed on it, along with a special green flashlight. I didn’t really get what the flashlight was for, but it didn’t really matter.
With that, I decided to move on to the next girl. I didn’t have a great deal of time, so I’d have to get a move on. I’ll be able to talk to them more later so it would be best to just get a short introduction from all of them.
I stretched over the rope divider before making my way to Akari-san’s stall.
“Aha, I was waiting for you to come over here! I could tell when you were looking at us; you want to talk to all of us, don’t you? That’s pretty greedy of you~!”
She was definitely a different type.
“Ah, you know, I’ve got to get my money’s worth.”
Bouncing around, it was clear that she had much more energy than Umeko-san. She patted the counter in front of her before smiling at me.
“I know you didn’t pay any money for that ticket; Karin-chi gave it to you! I wonder why she’s taken an interest in you; she never pays attention to anyone.”
“I wonder. I’m not really that interesting.”
“Ahaha, the way you talk is so funny. I can’t tell if you’re nervous or if you’re just uninterested. What’s your name, boy?”
“I’m Mizutaka.”
“Mizutaka-kun then. I’m sure I’ll be seeing you around if you’re Karin-chi’s friend. She’s the most influential member in our group, after all.”
Grabbing a whole bunch of merchandise, she laid it all out in front of me. From posters to accessories, there was quite a large variety of items in the pile.
“Go on, take it all. You can decorate your room with these!”
“Um, sure, alright.”
“Haha, don’t be shy now.”
Ah, this was a bit of pain.
Carrying all the items in my arms, I made my way to Chihiro-san’s stall. It was honestly surprising how different these girls’ personalities were from each other. They all seemed pretty similar when they were performing.
“You’ve managed to get quite the spoils, Mizutaka-kun.”
“Yeah. I don’t know how I’m going to carry all of this.”
“Well, I’ve handed out plenty of things to my big fan over there. So I won’t add too much to your pile.”
“Ah, that’s considerate of you.”
“I’m sure Karin-chan’s waiting to talk to you. I wouldn’t want to keep her waiting.”
She handed me a small necklace as I made my way to the last girl before Karin-san. She was busy talking with the man from earlier anyways.
“Nice to meet you, Mizutaka-sama.”
“Oh, nice to meet you too, Sora-san.”
“I hope you had fun at our concert.”
“It was fun.”
“I’m glad. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our fans happy.”
It seems that Sora-san was a lot more formal than the others. I guess she was playing the little-sister role, something that a lot of her fans probably like.
I probably should get a move on.
It’s about time to talk to Karin-san again.
