Chapter 15_ Mundane Classes
“Sir! Mizutaka-chan was able to solve every single question on the university entrance exam we gave him! He’s amazing. I think he’d be great as the poster boy for our project. He has an attractive face as we—”
A pile of papers scattered all across the floor.
“Didn’t I tell you? We’re disposing of him. I don’t want to hear any more.”
“B-but he’s our project’s greatest success… it’d greatly improve your reputation…”
“He’s not my success. He’s Atkinson-san’s success. I want him gotten rid of as soon as possible—I want Atkinson-san gotten rid of as soon as possible.”
The teacher was silent, looking up silently at her boss.
For the first time in her life, she saw the man in front of her feel genuinely desperation—The man who was usually dead calm, seemingly unshakable, was finally showing his weakness.
He was biting his nails with a dark look on his face.
The teacher took a step back as she watched her boss break down.
“Fuck… Atkinson-san… this boy… he’s your weapon against me, isn’t it. You’re a sly fucking dog… what am I supposed to do now…?”
He muttered to himself.
“I need to dispose of him…”

“Please put anything unrelated to the test on the floor. This is just a practice, so it won’t be recorded anywhere; however, you should still try your best. This is a good opportunity for you to see where you need to put in more work.”
The teacher handed out the test papers.
The midterms were coming up soon. That was when you would be ranked against other students. As such, many teachers were preparing tests and more homework than usual.
Looking beside me, I saw that Haruto-kun was frantically flipping through his summary book.
In our maths exams, all students were allowed to bring a bound summary book where they could write in any formulas or examples they wanted. Many students saw this as an opportunity to cram as much as possible inside in an attempt to be ready for any topic they may see open the test.
Still, as far as I could tell, the summary book was more of a placebo than anything. If you were to actually use it like an encyclopaedia, you’d run out of time before you’d even completed half the test.
Anyways, if you just had the information in your mind, there was no need for it.
If you could simply remember it, why would you find the need to write it down?
“Everyone, reading time starts now. You’ll have fifty minutes to complete the test afterwards.”
…
85% was a safe number to get. It was enough so that the teacher wouldn’t comment on my participation in class, but not high enough for them to think that I was unusual. If I really wanted to make a comment of some sort, I’d do so in the midterms, although that’d depend on what my intentions were.
For the time being, I just needed to focus on getting closer to the Oyama-Maezda Production Company.
“Time’s up. Please put your pens down.”
There was the uniform sound of sighing in the class.
Haruto-kun turned to me.
“How’d you do…?” he whispered.
“I did pretty well. What about you?”
“It was pretty hard, but I think I did well. I stayed up all night doing this instead of the English homework, so I hope it pays off.”
After collecting everyone’s tests, the teacher dismissed us.
The bell rang for lunch.
“I forgot to bring lunch today, so I’m going to get some from the canteen. You’ll be in the classroom, right, Riku-kun?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, I’ll see you in a sec, then.”
With that, all the students began leaving the class.
I took out the lunch that I had prepared this morning. For the first time in a while, I was able to make myself some decent food. With the money from the dating show, I bought some ingredients and made some protein-filled meal-prep lunches. I wasn’t the greatest cook, but I could definitely mix some raw ingredients together in a pan.
As I ate, I took out the book I was going to read earlier before I was interrupted by Hamasaki-san.
Being and Nothingness by Jean-Paul Sartre.
It was one of the books that directors of the Ideal Human Project enjoyed. I saw it various times on their shelves, although I’d never actual read through it.
…
“I’m back, Riku-kun!”
With a warm meat pie in hand, Haruto-kun sat down next to me.
“Welcome back.”
“What are you having? Ooh, is that satay beef? Can I try some?”
It wasn’t satay beef.
“No, you’ve got your own food.”
“Aw… also, what are you reading? Is that a philosophy book?”
“Yeah.”
“Looks boring.”
“It’s not that bad.”
Finally calming down, Haruto-kun decided to open his phone and play some mobile games. With that, I was given an opportunity to read my book in peace. As time passed, I managed to get through a decent chunk of it.
To be honest, the philosophy wasn’t that great. I’d never really understood these types of interpretations of the world.
The world is much simpler than this, isn’t it?
It’s not all that complicated. People have their motives, and people with motives take action. It’s all logical.
A few minutes later, the bell went again, and I closed the book.
It was the final period of the day, Chemistry.
It was all the same as usual. I would spend my time in the back of the class, listening to what the teacher was saying.
There wasn’t much point in doing any of the activities or work. It was nothing I hadn’t learnt before.
The only real reason I even listened in class was because it was somewhat entertaining.
It’s what a normal person would do, right?
Anyways, it’s almost time for my date with Miyazaki-san.
Let’s see how it goes. I guess I should make some preparations.
