The Cute Girl That Everyone Thinks Is Perfect Really Hates Me, But I Know Her Weakness Because I Was Raised In A Lab That Creates Perfect Humans

Chapter 18_ Surprise Home Visit

The teacher was handing out the maths tests that we had completed the previous day.

As soon as Haruto-kun received his, he quickly hid it under his arms, peeking at his score. I, too, received my test back.

“What did you get, Riku-kun?”

“I got 80%. How about you?”

“Ha! I got 87%. Hell yeah!”

“Good on you.”

Taking my test, I placed it into the bin.

“Aren’t you going to keep it? It’s important to check through the questions you did wrong. Why are you just throwing it out? Are you embarrassed?”

“I guess I just can’t be bothered trying to improve.”

“You need to work harder! We’re going to go to Tokyo University together, aren’t we?”

Oh yeah, I did say that, ages ago.

At this point, I’m not too certain whether that’d be possible anymore. It wasn’t related to my scores; the issue was that I needed to get rid of that man as soon as possible. In order to do so, I’d have to risk everything I have.

Even I don’t want to give myself more things I want to hold onto—not when I could lose everything in an instant.

“I’ll try my best then, Haruto-kun.”

I really will.

Lying by myself on my bed, I stared up at the roof. I had already finished all my homework earlier, so I didn’t have much else to do.

I wonder what normal people did at this time. I feel like ever since leaving the Ideal Human Project, I’ve had so much more free time. I have nothing to fill the time with. I guess I could get a part-time job, but I didn’t want to risk leaking my information to that man by sending it out to different companies.

Yokosuka High School was the only school in the entire area that I knew that man didn’t have any connections to. Yoshikawa-sensei understands my situation as well, so he wouldn’t needlessly take risks either. It wasn’t like I necessarily needed money. I had no desire to eat better or live in a better apartment.

I was capable of sustaining myself in any environment.

Picking my book up from the ground, I flipped through its pages. It was a decent way to pass the time, but I still felt somewhat empty.

Time passed by as mundanely as it always did.

I was beginning to feel slightly hungry.

Getting up from the bed, I made my way over to the tiny corner kitchen I had. It consisted of only a single gas stove, one that was inconsistent at best. Cranking the switch several times, I was finally able to get it to start.

Meat and potatoes would be fine; it was my go-to meal—it had all the necessary nutrients I needed, all for a low price.

Preparing some of the vegetables, I waited for the water to boil.

Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching my door.

There was a loud knock.

What was this?

Yoshikawa-sensei would never come uninvited. Even in emergencies, he’d at least text me first. Other than him, there shouldn’t have been anyone who knew where I lived.

Slowly, I made my way over to the door.

As I slid it open, I saw a flustered girl standing at the entrance.

“What are you doing here, Miyazaki-san?”

“U-um…” she tapped her fingers together, “I had a fight with my parents… so I don’t have anywhere to stay at the moment…”

What was this now? Am I just accommodation for you?

More importantly, how did she know where I lived?

“How do you even know where I live?”

“I asked my manager, and she knew where you lived.”

How…?

She lowered her head and clasped her hands together.

“Please, let me stay here, just for a few nights!”

Well, I guess I didn’t have any accentuating circumstances that’d stop me. But I was more confused as to why she chose me out of everyone.

“Couldn’t you have asked one of your friends?”

She frowned.

“W-well, since I’m always busy with work and stuff… I don’t really have any… friends… and my manager recently had a child, meaning I can’t stay with her either…”

How sad.

“Well, I guess it’s fine. But are you sure you’re fine with living in such a crappy place like mine? I’m sure this is far below your standards. Also, are you fine with staying over with a teenage boy like me?”

“T-this is fine! I don’t really have anywhere else to go… I-I just want to stay somewhere.”

Well, if she was fine with it, then I didn’t really have any concerns.

It gave me a good chance to get some more information—and strengthen my relationship with her.

“Come in.”

Taking her shoes off, she made her way inside.

She didn’t look very impressed, glancing around my apartment. Still, this is what she had to deal with if she was staying here.

“Do you have any money on you?” I asked.

“Um, well, my parents keep track of my finances… and I didn’t bring my wallet…”

What a hassle.

“That’s fine. You’ll have to deal with some cheap food, though.”

“T-that’s fine!”

I continued to prepare the meat and potatoes that I was making earlier. Thankfully I had a small spice set in my cupboard. Normally, I didn’t care too much about the taste, but it was still important to keep up my image with Miyazaki-san. I did say that cooking was one of my hobbies, after all.

I had some basic culinary skills, enough to please a starving girl.

Miyazaki-san waited on the ground by the small wooden ‘table-thing’ I had. It wasn’t long until I finished preparing the dish. Serving it and some rice, I put a bowl in front of her.

“Thank you, Mizutaka-kun~.”

“Don’t worry about it.”

She ate it like it was some sort of culinary masterpiece. I guess she mustn’t have eaten much throughout the day, then. Still, I’m surprised that she didn’t have access to any sort of money. Was her situation really this dire? As well-known as she is, money shouldn’t have ever been an issue for her.

I wonder.

She spoke up all of a sudden.

“Mizutaka-kun, what do you do when you fight with your parents?”

That was a bit of a tricky question.
