The Cute Girl That Everyone Thinks Is Perfect Really Hates Me, But I Know Her Weakness Because I Was Raised In A Lab That Creates Perfect Humans

Chapter 19_ Callous Future_

I began to wash the dishes now that Miyazaki-san had finished eating.

“I guess I’ve never really fought with my parents.”

“What do you mean? Surely everyone has.”

I guess almost everyone probably has. Still, I don’t even know who my parents are, let alone having even a conversation with them.

“I’m a bit of a special situation, then.”

“Really? I do see that you’re living alone. D-did something happen when you were younger…?”

Drying off the plates, I stacked them back into the small cupboard under my sink.

“Nothing bad happened. It’s just that I wasn’t raised by my parents.”

“Oh… I see.”

It seemed that she wasn’t going to pry any further. Cleaning up the remainder of dinner preparations, I packed everything into their respective places and made my way over to my bed.

Miyazaki-san was still sitting awkwardly on the ground.

“You can come sit on the bed as well, it’s a little more comfortable.”

She had a little bit of a concerned look on her face.

“Y-you’re not planning anything weird… are you…?”

“Don’t worry. I won’t do anything like that.”

Reluctantly, she got up and sat beside me on the bed. There was a loud squeak as the bed supported itself under the weight of two people. It wasn’t like Miyazaki-san was heavy. In fact, she was quite slender; it was just that my bed was starting to suffer after years of use without any repair—it wasn’t exactly made of any high-quality material.

“How are things going with Maeda Junpei?”

She looked over at me.

“The film guy? Yeah, he says that he thinks that I have lots of potential.”

Lots of potential? Where have I heard that exact phrase before?

“I’m sure you do have lots of potential. You’re a talented girl—a cute one at that.”

She blushed a little.

“Hey! Don’t try to create a weird mood.”

“Ah, I didn’t mean it like that. Does he have anything planned for you in the near future?”

“Hm… he did say that he wanted me to be the face of their new youth department. He said that they tried once in the past, but it didn’t work out for some reason.”

Lots of potential. A youth department. The last one didn’t work out?

They definitely had a reason for sponsoring the Ideal Human Project.

It still didn’t make sense. Such a large, well-known conglomerate as theirs would easily be able to form a youth division. It wasn’t very believable that it’d just ‘fail’. They must’ve had some other intentions, but I had no insight into what that could’ve been.

To go so far as to poach one of the most prominent young actors at the moment, they definitely had something large planned.

For whatever reason, based on my current knowledge, the timeline didn’t add up. There was still something wrong—I needed to find the inconsistency.

“Did he give a time frame for when the youth department would begin?”

“Oh? You seem pretty interested in this. He said the company will start advertising it in the next few weeks. He also asked me to recommend me some other prominent actors.”

She stopped for a moment.

“D-do you want me to give you a reference? They told me to tell them if I ever see someone with promise.”

“I’ll have to think about it. But on the other hand, would you mind referring one of my friends? I think they’ll be a decent fit.”

“Oh? What’s his name?”

“She’s a girl, and her name’s Hamasaki Clara.”

“Ah, it’s a girl? Y-yeah, if you think she’s a good fit, then I’ll tell them about it.”

“Thank you, Miyazaki-san.”

She looked away.

“It’s fine.”

Looking out the only small window beside my front door. I could see that it was beginning to get dark already. I guess I’d have to sort out the sleeping arrangements.

“You can sleep on the bed if you want, Miyazaki-san. I’ll just rest on the floor.”

“Really? Well, that’d be nice. Do you want the doona or…”

“It’s fine. I don’t really need it anyways. Just make yourself comfortable. I’m already pretty used to living in harsh environments.”

She pressed her hands on my back.

“T-thank you… you know, I didn’t really think you were so kind, Mizutaka-kun.”

My intentions weren’t related to kindness.

I guess this was one part of myself I wanted to change.

People are supposed to be happy when they help others, right? I wonder if it’s possible to learn that… or maybe once it’s gone, you’ll never get it back.

Lying beside the wall, I opened my phone and used it as a light so I could read my book.

Miyazaki-san didn’t look like she had anything else to say, so she turned the other way.

“Make sure to make up with your parents, Miyazaki-san.”

I wasn’t sure what I’d do if she wanted to continue staying here. It would likely be an inconvenience for both of us. I just hoped that she’d get along with them again.

I wouldn’t be able to get much more information from her anyways.

After reading for a few hours, I also decided to get some rest.

It was morning.

As I got up, I noticed that Miyazaki-san had already left. There was a note by the bed.

—Thank you for letting me stay with you, Mizutaka-kun. I had a call with my parents this morning and I’ve decided to go back home. If you want, you can come over to my place if you want. <3

Well, I was just glad that she was able to make up with her parents.

Packing my things for the day, I noticed that there was a message on my phone.

—You should come over this weekend. I’ve got some free time and my parents are weirdly obsessed with wanting to meet you.

I guess that’d be fine.

Making my way to my bus stop, I looked around at the busy morning traffic.

Ah, I should talk to Hamasaki-san…
