The Eternal Strive

Chapter 2: Chapter Two: The Ring's Call

The trail was alive beneath Caden's boots. As he moved deeper into the misty forest, he began to notice faint patterns glowing on the ground—runes, their blue light shifting and swirling like living ink. They seemed to pulse in time with the faint warmth of the ring on his finger.

"What is this?" he murmured, crouching to inspect one of the glowing symbols.

The moment his hand brushed the rune, a surge of energy raced up his arm, and his vision blurred. He stumbled back as the golden light in his hands flared uncontrollably, reacting to the ring. In his mind, a voice echoed:

"System Activated. Welcome to the Ringbound."

Caden gasped, staring at his hand as a translucent interface appeared in the air before him. Its symbols shifted rapidly, but after a moment, the text solidified into something he could read:

---

---

"What is this?" Caden whispered, his voice trembling with awe and confusion.

"You are chosen," the voice said, calm and ancient. "The ring binds you to an eternal battle, a struggle older than time. Its power will grow, but only if you prove yourself worthy."

The interface flickered and vanished, leaving Caden standing in silence. The ring pulsed on his finger, and he could feel its power now more clearly than ever—a deep, resonant force that hummed through his body.

Before he could think further, a low growl echoed from the shadows.

From the mist emerged a massive wolf-like creature, its fur shimmering with the same blue light as the runes. Its glowing eyes locked onto Caden, and its claws dug into the ground as it prepared to strike.

"Trial begins now," the voice declared.

The beast lunged, and Caden raised his hands instinctively. Golden energy erupted from his palms, meeting the creature in a blinding flash. The wolf recoiled but quickly regained its footing, circling him with predatory intent.

Caden's heart pounded as the words of the system echoed in his mind. Ringstrike. The ring pulsed again, and he felt the energy surge to his hands. He focused, summoning the power into a crackling orb of light, and hurled it toward the wolf.

The beast howled in pain as the attack struck true, but it didn't back down. It leapt toward him again, faster this time.

Caden gritted his teeth and steadied himself. The system had awakened, and with it, the ring's power. Whatever this trial demanded of him, he would face it head-on. There was no turning back.
