Chapter 8: Away!
Part two.
*On behalf of Chris*
Chris was staring at the open door, his heart was pounding, as if he wanted to get out of his chest. Behind her stood a tall man, with a convincing expression on his face, his eyes sparkled with the energy of confidence that Chris had never seen before. He looked like the salvation he had been looking for for so long.
- Who are you? - Chris asked, confused, but not wanting to show weakness.
- It doesn't matter, - the man replied, his voice sounded cold and confident. - Now the main thing is to get out of here.
Chris felt hope penetrating him. This stranger, breaking into the sinister atmosphere of the house, made him feel that he was not alone in this struggle. He was like a handful of light in the sea of darkness.
But Chris couldn't ignore the anxiety that was still beating in his chest. With every second, fear was remembered more and more obsessively: he needed to keep his ear out. This stranger could be a danger as well as his sinister future relatives. However, at that moment, fear was shrinking around every moment, like a snake ready to cling to the victim.
"They want you," the man noticed, casting a quick glance at those in the room. There was confidence in his voice. - I need to distract them so that you can get out. Come on, act quickly.
Chris felt a tremor in his hands. - Where should I go? - he asked, gathering his strength.
- I have no idea, hide somewhere for now. I'll distract them as much as I can. Forget about your doubts. Act.
Chris nodded, his inner voice ordered: Act. Don't waste time. He rushed towards the wine cellar, while the stranger was in front of the door, blocking the entrance.
- Hey! - the faw shouted, noticing the movement. There was rage in his voice, undisguised hatred. Chris heard his future relatives throw up their heads.
Chris was running, and his lungs felt tense. A threat hung over him. He felt his hair stood on end from the possibility of betrayal, when the stranger controlled the moment, distracting their attention.
Once at the door of the cellar, Chris quickly put his ear on her. He straightened his shoulders and closed his eyes. I think I'm on the verge... - he suddenly realized that this is exactly how such moments should happen. He pushed the door, and it opened with a slight creak.
Having dived inside, he found himself in a dark cellar full of tall rows of wine bottles. The shadow ran over his face when Chris saw his acquaintance disappearing outside the door, leaving him in pitch darkness.
At that time, the room on the street was filled with noise. The site was covered by a second silence, while those who stayed were looking for an understanding of the situation. Chris held his breath. How long will he be able to remain unnoticed? He knew that he had to act.
Darkness was waiting for him ahead, and an irreversible outcome was waiting behind him. It was as if he was dancing on the edge, his fear resisted the undoubted necessity.
"So, just be quiet," he whispered to himself.
Chris approached a row of bottles, his mind wandering between anxiety and hope. He didn't know when this stranger would come back, but deep down he felt that the chances of salvation increased thanks to him. Anyway, we had to move on.
The sound of footsteps came from the cellar - Chris froze. These were steps that just couldn't seem good to him. There was panic inside him, but he forced himself to look forward. It can't be the end.
A couple of empty eyes looked out from under one of the bottles - in the middle of all the chaos, Chris realized that every detail should always be taken into account, even if it is not noticed.
The shadows in the wine cellar were moving, and unclear ideas came into their minds. Chris understood that the decision had to be made now. He was frissically looking for a way he could use to get out. The door in the cellar could be the only salvation, but as soon as it opened, you should least have expected the return of a stranger.
Soon Chris noticed an old but sturdy ladder leading up. Realizing that by climbing on it, he still puts himself in danger. But he wasn't afraid of anything. He was full of determination.
Paving the way into the depths of the darkness, he began to rise. Every step, every breath seemed to be both an opportunity to lay your destiny and a step into the unknown. He knew that fear was waiting for him right behind him, but now he also knew that he had someone ready to support him - the very person who broke in when everything seemed lost.
