Chapter 13: Beginner's Package
After chasing Paws around like a scene straight out of Tom and Jerry, I finally gave up and plopped down on the ground, utterly defeated.
"Huff… haff…" I gasped, trying to catch my breath. My chest heaved as I sat there, staring at the ground, realizing the futility of my efforts. There wasn't anything I could've done in the first place.
Only thing I can blame is my fate… or my stupid luck for getting stuck with this devilish cat.
Paws, this floating menace of a system, wasn't just my guide—he was my tormentor. My destiny, it seemed, was tied to him. But deep down, I vowed: the moment the universe gives me the chance to take him out, I will. Oh, how I will.
I sat there, feeling utterly powerless. Yeah, powerless… because who's ever heard of someone destroying their own system? There wasn't a manual for this. There wasn't any escape. So what could I do but let it go?
"Let's just carry on," I muttered, shrugging off my misery. "So… what's next then?" I asked, still looking down at the ground.
Paws floated lazily around me, the smugness on his face as constant as ever. But this time, the egg was nowhere to be seen. I had no idea where he'd hidden it. Did he have some kind of system storage? Like those magical inventories in manhwas and anime? Whatever it was, I couldn't care less.
"So, didn't we come here because of my mission? You know, to quench my thirst and hunger? Well, even though it's ambiguously strange, I feel full after draining the snake's blood. So does that mean I've completed the mission? And if so, what's next?" I asked flatly.
Paws floated closer, his paws resting on his smugly puffed chest. "You're right, nya... I completely forgot about the mission, nya," he said nonchalantly.
I stared at him, dumbfounded. Seriously? This guy's my system, and he FORGOT the mission? But, of course, it didn't even surprise me anymore. I was getting used to his incompetence.
Paws continued, "Technically, the mission was for you to not die of hunger or thirst, nya. So… I guess that means it's completed, nya!"
As he said that, a system window popped up before me:
---
> Congratulations!
You have completed your first mission!
Reward: Beginner's Package
---
I blinked at the notification, still catching my breath. "Oh, great. A beginner's package. I hope it's not just some worthless junk," I muttered.
Paws grinned smugly, floating closer. "Be grateful, nya. You wouldn't even have made it past your first day without me, nya."
I rolled my eyes but stayed quiet. Let's see what this "beginner's package" actually has to offer.
As I clicked on the glowing box-shaped icon in the system window, a flurry of notifications exploded in front of me, one by one, stacking on top of each other until they completely clouded my vision.
"Ahh! What the hell is going on?!" I shouted, waving my hands as if that would clear the mess.
The windows didn't stop popping up until finally, the chaos settled. I groaned and started reading through the notifications, one by one:

"Ghost of the Wilds? Okay, that's actually kinda badass," I muttered with a grin.

---
The window sparkled, highlighting the available classes as if waiting for me to choose.
Paws floated over, smirking. "Well, nya? What're you waiting for, nya? Pick one, nya!"
I stared at the choices, the possibilities whirling in my mind. "...Can't I just choose all of them?"
"No, nya! Stop being greedy, nya!" Paws said, crossing his tiny arms. "Pick one before I pick for you, nya."
"Alright, alright! Let me think," I muttered, weighing my options carefully.

After thinking for a while I asked Paws, "So, does this mean everyone in this world gets to choose their classes, like video game characters?"
Paws floated closer, puffing out his tiny chest with pride. "No, nya! It's just your exclusive privilege, nya! Because you're a system user, nya. Only YOU get the chance to choose a class and decide the way you wanna go, nya!" He said it all proud, like it was his doing.
"So, wait," I asked, genuinely curious. "Does that mean only I get to have these class powers and no one else can have that?"
Paws stopped floating for a moment, then facepawed. "... Do you have problems with your brain, nya? I just told you—you can choose your class, but others can't, nya. They can still pursue that path, nya, but if they aren't talented in that field, they won't reach the higher realms, nya!"
He floated around dramatically as if gearing up for a lecture. "Well, you know what, nya? Let me just explain it to you so even your noodle brain can understand, nya."
