The God of calamity’s wife book 2: return of the 13th

Chapter 8: 8- a bad influence

The boy watched as saoirse took the bead from the girl and braided it into her hair. Her hair had been down until now, and she felt like this bead was a little thicker, so she pulled it up and split it into two braids that hung over each shoulder. Then the golden bead went on one of the sides. It fit better that way.

She began to walk away from the group she had defeated and searched for someone else to challenge.

He went up the the rich girl as she began picking up her papers from a folder that dropped as she attempted to balance schoolbooks in her arms. Her friends that carried them for her had all left her there. They had only been beat up by saoirse because they had backed her up and in the end, she had sacrificed them for her gain.

She knew they would be back, but she still looked bothered by the defeat. Her face had a bit of a pout. Her hair was red and her face had freckles.

"Do you know who that girl is?" The boy asked her.

"How should I know? She's a jerk that's what she is. Why can't she just go kill some vampires. We are sure to release another one for training tomorrow."

He shrugged his shoulders. "She tried to challenge me, but I didn't know her so I wasn't interested in losing. Guess I was right, she is strong."

The girl looked at him and saw an interested look in his eye. She said humph, "I would just stay away from her if I were you. She could have a boyfriend already or something. Besides, you only have one bead."

She handed him her books and said. "Good thing for you I'm single. So since you let her scare my friends away, challenging them instead of easy bait like you, you get to carry my stuff to class.

He groaned and grabbed the rich girls books from her, and followed her out of the room. They were heading to swordsman training. When they got there, the girl with white and blue hair was there. He went to sit by her without even asking the Red head where she was planning to sit. He set the books down next to her and the red head snatched them up and moved away to sit behind them.

The teacher began instructing them of how to use different techniques. The white haired girl wrote down diligently the information and seemed very interested. She scribbled on about how a person would use magic to increase their strength when fighting.

She didn't notice him there, which made him sigh a bit.

The swords instructor picked up a sword from the rack next to him and it lit up with flames. "Today we are going to practice activating our weapons to use the magic that is inside of each of us. This magic is said to be handed down to us by the moon goddess from her father Mani.

We do not have connections to the wolves of Mani, but his daughter did bestow on us this power when she lived in Midgard."

He slashed it around and showed some simple techniques and explained that he was able to harness his unique ability to use the fire as an extension of himself and that others may specialize in other elements.

He invited students to take his sword and attempt to do the same.

The white haired girl went up to the front of the class and took ahold of the sword and it activated immediately to produce ice. Her whole body became as if it were frosted and a chill filled the room. She was astonished and began practicing the forms that the teacher had shown them

The whole thing seemed natural. She shot ice from the tip and began doing the motions faster and faster and faster, adrenaline shooting from the sword in the form of ice.

The energy in the room seemed to be absorbed by her and the room got colder. She seemed to be in a trance.

The red haired girl behind him tapped her hand in his shoulder, "where on earth did she learn those moves? That's not how the teacher did it, it's making me feel scared."

The teacher had let this go on for long enough. "That will be enough!"

Saoirse snapped out of it and realized that the room was like a freezer, ice had coated the walls and the hair of the other students.

She quickly sat down.

The teacher cleared his throat and told the class that they could leave early so he could clean up the room. He watched them leave and gave Saoirse a concerned look. Then he noticed the young boy that was still sitting at his seat behind where Saoirse had been.

"Did you have something you need from me?" He asked

"Oh, I was just wondering where that girl came from?" The boy asked. "She challenged 6 people earlier today and even took a gold bead from the girl from the Benedikson family."

"She is new, they say she was found with Amnesia in the forest outside of the gates. A scout brought her here."

"Interesting. Would you happen to know her name?" He asked.

The teacher nodded, "It's Saoirse."

——

Over the course of the day, he followed her closely but didn't talk to her directly. She continued to challenge other werewolves to duels and won a few beads.

At the end of the day, when the sun was going down, a siren began blaring suddenly and the military students all went outside and began putting on their armor and preparing for battle.

Saoirse didn't know what was going on, so she stood there a little lost.

The boy from earlier that didn't want to challenge her suddenly came up beside her and acknowledged her confused demeanor.

"I heard you had amnesia, so I bet you don't know why the sirens are blaring."

She shook her head a bit relieved to see a familiar face again.

"A vampire has been sighted inside the forest." He said. "It is time for a hunt."

This didn't seem to rile her up at all, in fact she seemed upset a bit so he asked her a question matter of factly. "You don't like killing vampires?"

"I'm not sure, I feel a sort of moral obligation to only kill those that are guilty of evil deeds, and yesterday I killed a small boy that I really don't think he did anything in his life but just exist. And I don't think I should kill someone just because of what they are."

"Well, he did kill a werewolf though. Don't you want to prove yourself to the Alpha so you can get your memories back?" The boy asked.

Saoirse blinked, "how did you know that?"

"I noticed that you don't have any friends, that must mean you don't know what your place in the world is yet. So I figured, a person as strong as you would want to rise through the ranks to try to find your family and friends, try to figure out your path." The boy said.

"Personally, I think that is a good plan." He held out his hand at hers and introduced himself. "I won't give you my bead to do it, but you can always count on me to help you meet your goal if you want. My name is Aksel by the way."
