Chapter 15: STACY!!
"That was so cool, Cap!" Grayworm called out from the far end, giving a thumbs up, his voice filled with admiration. Ye Qiu, who had just finished executing a flawless move in the game, smiled faintly as he leaned back in his chair, sipping his coffee. The warm liquid did little to soothe the tension building in his chest. He needed to focus on the mission ahead.
"Alright, guys. I'll dive in now..." he began, but suddenly paused as he heard the unmistakable sound of his door's password being unlocked from the outside. He turned his head, furrowing his brow. Before he could even react, the door swung open with a force that made him jump slightly. Stacy barged in, her face flushed with anger.
"Stacy?" Ye Qiu's voice faltered, a note of confusion threading through his tone as she stormed toward him. She marched straight up to him and, without a word, grabbed his earphones and yanked them from his ears. In one swift motion, she threw them to the ground, shattering them into two pieces.
"Stacy, what's going on?" Ye Qiu asked, standing up, his heart starting to race. This wasn't the Stacy he knew—the calm, thoughtful woman who always tried to keep things steady. The Stacy in front of him was furious, almost beyond recognition.
Without a word, Stacy slapped him hard across the face. Ye Qiu stood there in stunned silence, the sting of her hand still sharp on his cheek. He touched his face but didn't react with anger. His confusion deepened, and he searched her eyes, trying to understand what had gone wrong.
"What the hell, Stacy?" he asked softly, hurt and disbelief mingling in his voice.
Her eyes were brimming with tears, but she refused to let them fall just yet. Instead, she turned away, her fists clenched at her sides. "So this is it?" she asked bitterly, her voice shaky with emotion. "You promised you'd be there for me. You said you'd come to the event! You said you'd be there to support me! And now? What do I get? I have to drag attention to myself with a stupid game?!"
Ye Qiu's heart sank. He had completely forgotten about the event she had mentioned few days ago—the one she'd been looking forward to, the one where she wanted him to be by her side. He had gotten lost in the game, in the rush of the competition, and now here she was, standing in front of him, devastated.
"I'm sorry, Stacy, I... I didn't mean for it to happen like this," he said, stepping closer, trying to explain, but she wouldn't let him. Her words cut through the air like a whip.
"You promised me! You promised you'd be there. But your stupid game was more important, wasn't it?" She grabbed the nearest cushion from the couch and threw it at him, the impact soft but filled with all her frustration.
Ye Qiu stood frozen for a moment, guilt weighing down on his shoulders. He had messed up, and he knew it. "I swear, I didn't mean for this to happen, Stacy," he tried to explain, his voice hoarse. "It completely slipped my mind. I'm sorry. I promise, I didn't do it to hurt you."
"Of course, it always slips your mind!" she snapped, her voice cracking. "But your damn game never does, does it? You never forget that! You made me look like a joke to my entire extended family, They were all waiting for you, and where were you? Playing some stupid game!" Her voice broke, and tears began to stream down her face, dripping onto her wine-stained gown. The sight of her in tears, wearing a dress so clearly ruined, hit Ye Qiu harder than he could have imagined.
His heart clenched, and he rushed to her, his voice filled with desperation. "Stacy, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen. If there's anything I can do to make it up to you..."
"Anything?" she laughed bitterly, her chest rising and falling with the force of her emotions. "Anything? This! This is what I want!" she shouted as she grabbed his keyboard from the desk and, with one swift motion, stomped on it with her high heels, smashing it to pieces.
"Stacy,!" Ye Qiu's voice was full of panic now as he grabbed her wrists, trying to stop her. But Stacy wasn't done. She shoved him off and, in a whirlwind of rage, knocked everything off the desk—his computer, his game console, the wires—everything hit the ground with a loud crash. Sparks flew from the broken wires as they disconnected from the socket.
"Now we're even! Its over" she snearled, her voice ringing with finality. Then, without another word, she turned and walked toward the door.
"Stacy..." Ye Qiu called out, his voice strained. He couldn't lose her—not now, not like this. He had to make things right.
He rushed after her, his heart racing as he caught up to her on the street. The night air felt cold and heavy, the weight of his actions pressing on his chest. "Stacy, wait!" he called, reaching out to grab her hand. But she jerked her hand away, pulling it out of his grasp with force. Ye Qiu, desperate, grabbed her again.
"Please, just listen to me!" he begged, his voice filled with frustration and desperation. He had to make her understand. He had never intended to hurt her, but he couldn't get through to her.
"Stacy, I love you. You're more important to me than any game. Please, just give me one more chance and i would make it up to you," he pleaded, his voice breaking.
But Stacy, her face a mixture of anger and hurt, refused to look at him. She tugged her arm away forcefully, and in the next instant, a police officer, who had been patrolling the area, spotted them. Misinterpreting the situation, the officer approached them, his hand resting on his baton.
"Hey!" he shouted, his voice stern. "What's going on here? Is everything alright?"
Stacy, startled by the officer's presence, pulled her hand away from Ye Qiu's grasp with a violent jerk. She stumbled backward, her feet slipping on the wet pavement. Before Ye Qiu could react, a truck speeding down the road swerved to avoid them, but in the chaos, it struck Stacy with a force that sent her flying backward, her body crashing to the ground with a sickening thud.
"STACY!" Ye Qiu's voice cracked, the world around him suddenly falling apart. His knees buckled as he rushed to her side, his hands trembling as he checked for signs of life. "Stacy, no... please, no..."
The police officer stood frozen, his hand still on his baton, unsure of what to do. But Ye Qiu didn't care about him, didn't care about anything except Stacy. His heart pounded in his chest as he cradled her head, praying she was still alive, praying he hadn't lost her forever.
The street was eerily quiet, save for Ye Qiu's frantic breaths and the distant sounds of the city. Everything had happened so fast.
