Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Primary Focus
After David had stormed from the house, Liah breathe a sigh of relief that at least he was gone but her peace of mind was shattered when he returned two hours later. She also noticed how tense and quiet Moses had become once David had entered the house, this couldn't continue, and the fact that she didn't know how to fix the problem angered her more with each passing minute.
"Wait, I really need to ask this question." David's tone instantly made him the primary focus at the dining table. "You really didn't wait for me because you were so anxious to get home to this man?" David demands. "Answer me Liah!" He orders after a few moments of silence.
"You know what? I'm a grown woman, not a child, and I refuse to answer any more of your questions. For the entire drive to work this morning, you badger me with questions. What were you doing in his room? What were you writing? Why was the door closed? Why was he drinking that shake? Is it wise to leave him alone with Zoey?" Liah fumes slamming her fork on the table.
"Ugh, I've had it already and I'm done." She snaps rising from her chair. She turns to walk away but David jumps from his chair, hurries towards her, and grabs her wrist. "Alright, I'm sorry but I ask those questions because I love you and I'm jealous but please bear with me a little longer, there is one more question I need an answer to before I leave here tonight." before she could reply he was down on his knees before her.
"Will you marry me?" He asks holding out a small black box with a diamond ring inside. Liah's eyes flew to Michael's, then back to David's. "What? No...I....I...can't." She stuttered backing away from him. Since turning twenty years old, she had been patiently waiting and dreaming of the day he would propose, she knew he eventually would, she just didn't know when, and now that he did, it was the last thing she wanted.
"Why not Liah? It's because of him? Isn't it!" Standing to his feet, David shuddered with anger as he glared at Michael who was still seated at the table observing the scene before him.
"Oh please, you don't get to blame everything on Moses. You were the one that distanced yourself form me when I return from Razor's house because of the sigma that now surrounded me and my family and because your family no longer thinks that I'm good enough for you. I heard that your family has been pressuring you to move on from me, so what? Has that changed?" She demands.
"No, but this isn't about them. This is my life and I want to spend it with you. We could get engaged tonight and I could make you my wife in two weeks. Please Liah, say you'll marry me, isn't this what you've wanted ever since we met? So why wait any longer? Unless you no longer want to be my wife because you've set your sights on someone else?" He asks again glaring at Michael.
"So tell me, where exactly are we going to live after we get married? Will you take me to your home where I'll not be accepted? Or were you planning on moving in here with us?" "That's the least, we could rent an apartment." He grips her hand again staring at her hopefully.
"I see, but seeing as though you're the apple of your mother's eyes and she will never accept me now as her daughter-in-law, were you planning on cutting her out of your life before or after we get married?" "I won't have to, if you convince her of what you told me, that you're still a virgin, that neither Razor or his men touch you, Liah, all you have to do is prove to her that you're still a virgin and she'll accept you." He pleads.
"Oh, so, all I've to do is prove to your family that I'm still a virgin so that in their eyes, I'll be good enough for you to marry? I'll pass." She snorts pulling her hand from his. "Why? If you're still a virgin then you've nothing to hide right? Was what you told me true or not?" Liah glance at Michael which angers David even more.
"Why are you looking at him? What part did he play in all this mess? And if he did violate you? Then why was it so easy for you to welcome him into your home? Are you still a virgin or not Liah?" David demands again.
"If you really believe that she left Razor's house a virgin then you're an even bigger idiot than I thought you were." Anthony sneers from the doorway. "And that would mean that she lied to me besides this is between Liah and I, so stay out of it." David growls. "And how many times must I tell you that I'm the man of this house? That means you don't get to come in here and tell me what to do." Anthony finish his sentence by shoving David in the side of his head with the bottle he had in his hand.
"And the only person that gets to raise their voice at anyone in here, is me, so I suggest you leave before I lose my tamper." Anthony adds shoving David's head again. "And if you wish to keep your tongue in your head, then you had better watch how you talk to my sister, now apologize to my mother for raising your voice in her presence." Anthony sneers through clench teeth.
"That's not necessary." His mother protest holding up her hand, "This situation is awkward enough as it is_" "No, he's right, I'm sorry Mrs Robinson, I let my anger get the better of me, it won't happen again." "It better not, now get out." Anthony growls. Without saying another word David turns and storms from the house.
Liah then realize that this was perfect timing to fix one of her major problem. "David, wait!" She calls as he approach her gate. He turn and glares at her. "What?" "I think it would be best if you stay away for a while, I need some space to think." He snort and shakes his head. "Whatever Liah." He then turns and storm away. Feeling drained she walk over to the bench under the tree and sat down.
"Don't pay them any mind." Zoey laughs turning her attention back to a very quiet Michael. "Um, Anthony What type of aircraft can fly low enough to throw someone from it without crashing into anything?" She asks. "What kind of question is that?" Anthony demands narrowing his eyes at her. "I'm just trying to figure out what type of aircraft brought Moses here and dumped him into that lake."
And why the hell would you be trying to figure that out?" "Zoey has been trying to help me figure out who I am since I arrived at your house." Michael says. "Has she now? And what have you learned so far, pray tell." "Well I've learned that when they found him, that was his first time been on this Island, that he's probably from somewhere near the desert because of his tan.
That he speaks over ten languages and that his favourite animal maybe a panther." She finishes. "I see, alright, as for the aircraft, the only thing that comes to mind is a helicopter." "But can a helicopter fly from the U S to here?" She asks.
"It depends on the type and it's fuel tank but yes, if they had one build for long distance travel he could be coming from practically anywhere." "And are all of them small enough to fly at a low altitude without crashing?"
"Yep, pretty much. The doctor did tell the boss that he had come to the conclusion that you didn't get all those broken bones from the beating you receive but from the fall from whatever you were pushed from, so what Zoey is saying right now does make sense."
"And a helicopter is probably the only aircraft that could navigate that area without crashing or causing much commotion, we just need to figure out what type it was and someone has to know something about this, good thinking sis, I'm going to call the boss." He took out his phone and walk towards the door.
"Excellent observation, as usual." Michael nods as Liah enters the house. After that tense argument he was thinking that Liah might need some time to herself, so he decides to return to his room. "Moses, wait, can I please talk to you, in private?" She asks glancing at Zoey. His only response was a slow nod, he then turn and continue towards his room.
She close his door behind her then walk over to a chair and sat down. "I'm sorry you had to witness all that but it won't happen again because I've asks David for some space. I told him that we need a break from each other so I can sort through some things in my life. He wasn't happy but I think he got the point." He nods again but said nothing.
"Now about what we were talking about earlier. I understand that you're concerned about the consequences of our actions but look at it this way, out of all the places on this earth you could've been dumped, why was it here? And of all the people Razor could've called to care for you, why was it me?" she sigh then continues.
"A part of me feels that we were meant to be together and yes, maybe I should've waited a while longer before going all the way with you but I just couldn't resist you any longer. Now in my opinion I think God place you here for me. You and I were destined to find each other. Don't you think it's strange that I've been with David for so long, and I've never had sex with him or anyone else? Yet I choose to go all the way with you?" His dark eyes met hers but still he said nothing.
"I'm in love with you Moses, you're the one I wish to spend the rest of my life with, did we start out wrong? Yes, but if we were meant to be together, then I think it's okay in the eyes of God. So could you please trust that he knows what he's doing?" She asks softly massaging hands but still he remains silent.
"Baby, you keep wondering why you're on this Island, in this community? Maybe I'm the reason you're here. If things are wrong now, I know God will make it right, do you trust him to do that?" "Okay." He whispers. She open her mouth to speak but stop as Zoey open his door and poke her head in. "Moses, Mama said to asks if you would like a slice of bread pudding?" She steps into the room with a plate in her hand.
"You just couldn't give me a few minutes of privacy, could you?" "You had your few minutes, so unless you're willing to invite Mama into your little conversation, I suggest you cut it short." Zoey then walk from the room leaving the door open. "Sleep well okay." She whispers kissing his cheek softly. He nods and she squeeze his hands gently before leaving the room.
Maybe she was right, maybe this was her God's plan for him from the very beginning, maybe he was thinking about this the wrong way. If he remembers right, events in her Holy book usually had to get messy before her God made it right. So maybe this was one of those times. He did have strong feelings for her, so maybe he should let go of all his anxiety and just go with the flow.
He put a piece of the pudding in his mouth and chew slowly. Hmm, this one had a different taste from the one her mother made before but just as delicious. He thought licking his lips.
The following day a broad smile spread across Liah's face as she prepares herself to leave work. She had left her house early this morning after preparing Michael's breakfast and lunch. She had then send him a text explaining why she had left so early.
David hadn't shown up this morning which was a big relief. With him out of the way for a few days she could now turn her full attention on that sexy hunk of a man that was locked in her house, and after what she had said to him last night she really hoped that now he would be less concerned and conflicted.
However, a part of her did wish things were different, being with David for so long she wish she could feel for him what she felt for Moses, but she didn't and maybe that was how it should be, maybe Moses was her future and not David.
Now, unto why she was currently rushing down the passage of her work place towards the entrance. Zoey was up late last night again studying for a test she had today which means she wasn't able to spend any time with Moses last night. Her sister was really beginning to annoy her but the upside to that means Zoey wouldn't be home today and today was also her mother's turn to volunteer at the church, so she wouldn't be home either, so this was her chance to finally spend some alone time with him.
Her body was literally aching for him at this point. As she step outside she could hear Usher's song (Nice and slow) playing. She was wondering if there were places on him that her hands hadn't touched yet when her phone rings. She checks it and saw that it was Moses.
"Hi," she answer, her voice soft and seductive. "Hi, can you answer me a question?" "Sure," "Before we became intimate, you said that you knew we didn't have a future together but last night you said that I'm the one you wish to have a future with, I'm confused, do you think we have a future together or not?"
"Can I answer when I get there." "Is there a reason you can't answer now?" "No, it's just....Alright....a part of me would love nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you but another part still don't know if that going to be possible and I won't know that until your memories return and if we were really meant to be together then after you return home, I know you'll find your way back to me but if not, then I'll have to face my future without you but at least I'll have my memories of my time with you."
"Say no more, I understand. Wait a second_" "What?" She asks her hand frozen in mid air as she was about to wave down a taxi. "Your sister just steps through your gate." "Wh....What? What the hell is she doing home so early?" "Hi," Liah heard her sister greet him. "Hi, what happened?"
"Oh, there's no water on the school grounds, so they had to cancel the test." She heard Zoey explain. "Okay, um Liah....." "It's okay, I heard, rain check then, I'll see you later baby." With an angry snort she ends the call. "That little brat is really starting to piss me off." She growls under her breath. She then turn and march towards the entrance of the hospital.
