Chapter 68: You Thief!
When the food finally got there, Bane felt somewhat relieved. While no one had really said anything the rest of the wait, no one had said anything. This left everyone in a very awkward atmosphere, but when the food was placed in front of each person, this changed. Just the smell alone was enough to make anyone stop fighting, but the presentation was not what Bane had expected from a place that seemed more like a nightclub in another world than a restaurant.
The fish was sliced down the middle, and the white meat was cooked, and the spicy sauce was drizzled over the fish. There were some green herbs and leafy greens along the edge of the plate, and then the dish was garnished with a few red berries. Bane was excited to dig into his, but then he looked to see what Lysia had gotten, since this was her usual when coming here.
Bane nearly fainted when he saw the giant slab of meat with a large knife in it. He was pretty sure this was some kind of dinosaur or something, but the meat was cooked and had the same red sauce over it. Never in a million years did he think that he would see this kind of dish in front of an elf. Not that Bane knew many elves, but he was pretty sure this wasn't normal.
"If you want a small bite, you just have to ask, so stop glaring at it so hard. you look as though you are about to drool," Lysia scolded, and then cut the smallest sliver off the side of her massive steak, and then offered the near translucent piece of meat to him.
Bane slowly leaned forward and took his time taking the food from her fork, and chewed it, letting the flavors mix in his mouth. When the meat touched his tongue, a strange sensation spread through him, and Bane felt like he was being refreshed and the stress of the last day and a half disappeared. When Bane pulled back, Lysia had a bit of a blush, and a sly smile on her face, but she didn't notice her steak that Bane had stabbed until he took a big bite out of it.
"Hey! You thief!" Lysia complained, and then smacked Bane upside the head, but he kept chewing with a grin, and then swallowed.
"Well, don't be so cheap! That's what you get," Bane said with a wink, and then put her steak back, but then cut one of his filets in half, placing it on her plate. "See? This is what we call sharing... Put your damn hand down woman! We are trying to have a friendly meal here!"
"You are the reason for the hostility! She just told me she loves you and wants to pry you and me apart, and now we have to sit here with her!" Lysia snapped, but then Bane shoved a generous portion of the fish he had put on her plate, into her mouth.
"Tis your fault, not mine... Do you like spicy food? I don't think I bothered to even ask first, did I?" Bane laughed, but Lysia swallowed, and started to raise her hand again, but Bane locked fingers with her, and then pulled both their hands under the table.
On the other side of the table, Cyran had gotten a bit closer to Harmony, but still kept his distance. Any closer, and his wife would have him sleeping with the fishes before sunrise! In his opinion, neither his wife or Harmony were much better than the elf. To top it off, the Dark Priest could make him feel pain in ways that shouldn't even be possible. Still, Cyran was curious to know if this woman was doing this out of spite, or if she had genuine feelings for this body. Not that it mattered to him, he was on Lysia's side, or at least that was his wife's side, and that was his side, so help him.
"What do you think of the pair? Do you really want to get in between the two?" Cyran asked, and Harmony gave a look which asked why he was talking to her, but Harmony sighed after a moment.
"You wouldn't understand," Harmony said, but Cyran chuckled.
"Wouldn't understand? Of course not! I have never loved a man before! I have loved a woman, and even now I am still devoted to her, but I have no idea how it is to love someone that clearly has feelings for another person. Are you versed in this?" He asked with a grin, and Harmony raised her hand, but Cyran put up his own to stop her. "I mean no offense! Rather, you don't seem like the type to do something like this, yes?"
"You think I would go through the trouble of doing this, just because I have feelings for him? Please. I would never do something so childish," Harmony muttered, and then picked at her food.
"I have met many a person who has done many a foolish thing, because of love. It makes fools out of the best, and I have seen some truly foolish things. One man burned his whole kingdom to the ground, because his beloved left him, and went into the forest to die. The feelings make you do crazy things, and you are no different. Even so, this doesn't have to end in violence, and I don't think that it will," Cyran explained, and then looked at the couple sitting across the table.
They were both eating quietly, but both watching intently. Bane picked up his fork, and started to pretend to press on it like a remote, but then dropped it in frustration, and looked at Lysia. "Damn tele is broken again, and just when it was getting to the good part!"
Lysia laughed so hard that she choked on her food and Bane had to pat her back until she was able to recover, but they both turned when Harmony got up from the table. She looked down at the table and frowned.
