The Oblivion Walker

Chapter 13: The Incision of Violence

------ A couple of months later!

Rile sat on the ground. Going limp, he laid on his back and his slowly rolled in their sockets. He could hear the muttering of nature.

"Hey human." "Hi." "..." "Huh?" "Yes." "Laaaaaa." "Sure-" "Hey." "My?" "Yes." "Kill." "Why." "Hi." "Yesterday I-" "What?" "No." "Moon." "Hi." "Hot." "Huh?" "Yes." "Sun." "You" "BRAT." "Hey?" "Loud." "Kill." "bloop." "Hi." "Oregano." "When?" "kill… destroy… rampage." "Pss." "Hi." "open." "Silence?" "Yes." "Hahaha" "Gurgle." "Strong." "Powerful?" "Yes." "Kill." "Why." "Hi." "Hey." "Haha!?" "No." "Moon." "Hi." "It's hot." "GET OFF ME" "Yes." "Sun." "Hi." "Hey." "Huh?" "Yes." "Kill." "Why." "Hi." "Hey." "When?" "Begone." "wap." "wkdnos." "Hey." "Get up." "Whisper." "So many eyes." "The weather's nice today."

It was all incomprehensible nonsense when he didn't focus. Background noise, if ya will. Like static and mumbling.

But with a bit of focus, things were different. They sharpened. Mumbling becoming words, and words began to form meaning. "Did you hear of the ancient blade they found in the west? They say it was the blade of the first hero." " A birdy told me that something unreal has come up. A being of unending darkness, they call it." "The secret for the worlds best chicken is apparently-" "A demon lord has arisen in the north."

But one sounded especially odd—a voice they disliked heavily.

"Behind you."

Swiftly from the ground and rolling forward, he turned around and saw two young boys near his age.

"Nice reflexes!" It was a boisterous white-haired boy. At a glance, one would immediately be impressed. The strength with which poured out of them was like a river. They were like human beauty personified. With white hair, white eyes, and radiant presence, they resembled a star, divinity incarnate. Wearing a sleeveless shirt, one could see quite the physique behind it. More than just appearances though, Rile was focused on mainly on the idea that, this person was strong, holding more pure power than anyone he's ever met before.

Besides the god child, was a sorta dull-looking boy wearing a black shirt and black pants. Upon closer inspection, dull was the wrong word to use. They were simply in a way extremely hard to perceive. With jet-black hair, their eyes lacked light and did not show any reflection. Even less so than the eyes of the lifeless, his looked null of even death. Similarly to the white haired kid, he was in fact extremely good-looking, except he wasn't really in the way that made everyone notice him, since there was something about him nullifying that or simply him not existing like that. He was still otherwise definitely handsome, his physique comparable to the first, yet he was in a way one could only notice if they looked carefully, otherwise he'd seem like nothing more than a face with more nothing behind it passing by.

This was certainly an esoteric duo.

"… Uh huh." Rile's eyes narrowed. He could hear a maelstrom of voices. They seemed to go crazy over the white-haired boy.

"Ah? What do we have here?" "That one seems quite strong." "The white-haired boy seems quite dashing~" "I know right? I wonder how his flesh would taste." "You'd be sure to die if you fight. Run." "Fight them, it'll be an easy victory." "He has good eyes." "Stab them out." "Potato." "This is interesting."

Completely ignorant to what he was hearing, those two just stood in silence. His hair raised, he could not feel out the intention behind either. The god child seemed friendly, but he was too "great" to properly assess and the dull one was just plain impossible to read.

"…" The white haired boy seemed to be lost for words for a sec, realizing that this guy seemed to be suspicious of him. "Oh yeah, my bad! We're just looking for this place. Ehhhh, hard to pronounce… Ses… Sayski… Sezqwape… Kali…"

The null-like boy spoke up, "Sesquipedalian Magic School."

"That!…First try!" The god looking boy grinned.

In an instant, Rile relaxed, "Oh. Sesquip. I'mma be goin there too. Over in that direction."

"Thanks!"

And just like that, the two departed from the scene. Sitting back down on the ground, Rile took another glance at their direction, before closing his eyes. Losing himself in the voices.

———

Meanwhile…

Kali and Dice were both sitting across from each other at a table beside a food vendor.

"You think you're all that huh brat?" Dice scowled at the void boy. "I'm the guy who taught ya everything ya know and ya think you can just beat me huh?

Kali stared back silently.

"Well you're wrong! Three two one go!"

And then, to everybody sitting around them, there was a blur and suddenly six plates of eggs vanished.

Kali seemed completely and utterly unphased by the fact he just ate three plates of nothing but eggs.

Dice, on the other hand, didn't seem so unphased. A vein popped out of his forehead, and his face was stressed from the exertion.

"…Kali… did I win?"

…"No." He said, a matter of factly.

"I hate you." Not serious, but the struggle in his voice could be heard.

"Maybe you'll win next time."

"Fuck off."

Grabbing a pitcher of water besides them, Kali poured a cup of water for Dice before gulping all of the pitcher down(ice included).

"Do you just not have a gag reflex?" Dice took a small sip, slamming his fist on his chest to choke it all down a bit more properly.

"No."

"Blegh, what was I expecting." Dice leaned back in his chair. "Man I don't wanna go to schoool."

"Why not?"

"Boriiiing. I was never the best learner."

"I see."

"That supposed to be sarcasm ya punk?" Dice grinned.

"No."

He kept smiling. "Ouch. Anyways, you're a much smarter dude than me, so I'm sure you"ll do great."

"Thanks."

"Oh, you're learning how to take compliments now huh?"

"June told me."

"Seems about right. Hey Kali…"

"Yeah?"

"I know I ask you this a lot but… am I funny?"

"Yes."

"… I call cap."

"But I'm not lying."

"… Alright buddy." Dice always found himself amused by asking the boy stupid questions. "Well. When should we get there by?"

"Any time is fine for me."

"Anywhere ya wanna check out till then?"

"I wanna eat some sweets."

"Blegh, we already spent like a fortune on just eggs. Ya sure?"

"I don't mind."

"Fair enough." Dice couldn't help but shrug. Kali, while impossibly disciplined, able to focus and work endlessly on just about anything at all times at will, could also be infinitely more indulgent. They had absolutely no care for wasting money.

------

A couple of minutes later, the two stood around a candy shop. Eating a lollipop, Dice couldn't help but look at Kali shoveling candy down his gullet without pausing.

He thought about telling him to slow down, like June or Melissa might, but shrugged and just thought, 'Whatever.'
