Chapter 28 - Soul swap.
Yu Qing didn’t quite understand how the mental link worked, but since it didn’t hurt, he wasn’t going to hold back. He rolled up his sleeves to his chest.
A large expanse of dark skin came into view—tight and slender around the waist, both violent and beautiful. As he washed away the bloodstains with clean water, a long cut appeared, inflicted by the leaf of freesia.
Once rinsed, a thin layer of water coated the muscles, trickling down to the lower back before disappearing. Yu Qing straightened up, suddenly feeling a bit embarrassed.
“Yu Xiaoxue.” he waved behind him.
The snow leopard stood up and walked over. He held up his own clothes to indicate a length: “Bite off a piece of cloth this long for me.”
Just as Yu Xiaoxue bared her sharp teeth to bite down, he suddenly let go of the fabric. The snow leopard raised her head and saw him supporting Song Xinqi, taking off his jacket and holding it to Yu Xiaoxue’s mouth: “You should bite this instead.”
Yu Xiaoxue gave Yu Qing a bland look and used her sharp teeth to bite off a long sleeve.
Suppressing her animal instinct to groom herself, Yu Xiaoxue quietly looked across the river, then suddenly turned to look back. After bandaging the wound, Yu Qing stared at Song Xinqi’s body for a while, curiously and cautiously reaching out to touch his abdomen.
Yu Qing poked again; the shape was beautiful, smooth and somewhat firm, with a little give. He suddenly felt another intense gaze from behind and looked back. Yu Xiaoxue was staring at him with a blank expression.
He withdrew his hand guiltily: “Feels nice, do you want to try?”
The snow leopard padded over, placing hee furry paw on his hand to stop him from continuing his exploration.
The paw was warm, not at all like a wild animal’s. He thought Yu Xiaoxue wanted to be petted, and who could resist a large feline’s invitation? With a happy noise, he pounced.
Yu Xiaoxue stiffened as she was kissed on the forehead, struggling to escape his embrace, then leaping away, eyes wide with shock.
Something seemed off about Yu Xiaoxue since she woke up. Yu Qing finally noticed. Usually, no matter her size, Yu Xiaoxue loved to snuggle, pouncing or circling around him, licking him. Now, she was suddenly aloof, refusing to be touched. Could it be that he was traumatized by the mental attack?
He looked at Yu Xiaoxue’s back, worried. He felt something was wrong, though he couldn’t pinpoint what. It was like Yu Xiaoxue had become a different leopard.
The snow leopard stood still for a while, then turned to tug at Yu Qing’s clothes. He didn’t understand until the snow leopard nudged his waist, urging him forward, making it clear he wanted him to follow.
He gently pushed Yu Xiaoxue’s body: “No, we have to wait for Song Xinqi to wake up. We can’t wander off. Be good.”
The snow leopard nudged him forward again. He took a few steps but then firmly refused to move. The snow leopard glanced at him, then turned and ran off.
“Yu Xiaoxue, where are you going? Come back!” he chased a few steps but then remembered Song Xinqi was still there, torn between pursuing and staying. By then, Yu Xiaoxue had disappeared into the woods.
He anxiously scanned the distance. It was too late to chase now; he might get lost. He had to return to the river, sitting down beside Song Xinqi, hugging his knees and staring blankly at the water, unsure what to do.
After a long time, Song Xinqi suddenly opened his eyes and sat up straight.
“You’re awake?”
Yu Qing turned to look, about to say something, but Song Xinqi’s eyes lit up, and he suddenly pounced, his cold, stern scent mingled with a dangerous undertone.
Yu Qing stared in confusion at his enlarged face. His aggressive face now inexplicably excited, he pressed against him, sniffing along his side.
He felt a damp sensation on his face, his eyes widening in shock.
Song Xinqi was licking him!
“What’s wrong with you?” Yu Qing, a bit scared, used his hand to block his head from nuzzling his neck.
Earlier, while bandaging, Yu Qing hadn’t lowered his shirt. Now, skin-to-skin, he felt the scorching, firm body against his abdomen.
The snow leopard returned, a mutated rabbit in his mouth, to see this scene: Song Xinqi’s body pinning Yu Qing down, only his slender legs kicking outside, head buried in Yu Qing’s neck doing who-knows-what.
The snow leopard’s eyes turned fierce, and she charged, knocking Song Xinqi off. He rolled on the ground, standing up to see a large snow leopard guarding Yu Qing, baring its teeth.
Song Xinqi tilted his head.
Why was there a leopard identical to him?
Yu Qing propped himself up, cheeks a bit pink, eyes watery, clothes disheveled from the tussle. The snow leopard glanced at Song Xinqi with a dark look.
Song Xinqi dropped to all fours, fur bristling, growling at the snow leopard. Yu Qing watched the man and the leopard in the same posture, a ridiculous idea forming in his mind.
“…Song Xinqi?”
The hunched Song Xinqi didn’t react, but the snow leopard turned his head, looking annoyed.
This world was indeed absurd.
“So, you two swapped bodies?”
Yu Qing sat beside the snow leopard, finding it unbelievable.
The snow leopard nodded heavily, glaring at the now overly affectionate “Song Xinqi” clinging to Yu Qing’s shoulder.
Song Xinqi stretched lazily, purring contentedly.
Though knowing it was Yu Xiaoxue in Song Xinqi’s body, Yu Qing still felt uneasy. Whether to let him stay close or not, especially with the real owner of the body watching.
Wait, he suddenly remembered something. The snow leopard was Song Xinqi, meaning he had touched his abs in front of Song Xinqi himself and even asked if he wanted to feel them too!
He covered his face, ears burning, unwilling to face reality. He was doomed. Song Xinqi probably wanted to kill him now. He might die worse than the original owner.
Song Xinqi was in a foul mood, unable to use his mental power, not knowing how to swap back. The thought of Yu Xiaoxue being affectionate with his body made his blood boil.
He glanced over; Yu Xiaoxue seemed to sense the wound on her abdomen and tried to lick it. The snow leopard immediately stood up, roaring at her. Yu Xiaoxue paused, then continued as if nothing happened.
“Yu Xiaoxue, don’t lick!” Feeling the rising tension beside him, Yu Qing quickly lifted “Song Xinqi’s” head. Yu Xiaoxue squinted, meowing softly, licking his fingers.
Warm and moist, without barbs, a human’s tongue. Yu Qing retracted his fingers, but Yu Xiaoxue followed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders, snuggling close.
“Aw—!” The snow leopard roared in fury, wedging between them, coldly pushing Yu Xiaoxue’s hands away, but she refused to let go.
The snow leopard bit Yu Xiaoxue’s arm, leaving two rows of bloody holes. Yu Xiaoxue yelped, temper flaring, releasing Yu Qing and pouncing on the snow leopard.
Man and leopard wrestled, leaving Yu Qing stunned.
“Stop fighting.”
He anxiously watched as “Song Xinqi’s” abdomen oozed blood, scratches multiplying. Yu Xiaoxue unconsciously released her mental power, attacking Song Xinqi’s brain.
Seeing the escalating battle, Yu Qing’s persuasion failing, he decisively reached out, touching each one, turning them into equally sized dolls.
He separated them, placing them on opposite sides: “No fighting.”
The doll-sized Yu Xiaoxue, covered in claw marks, whimpered, crawling onto Yu Qing’s lap for comfort. Yu Qing picked her up, “There, there, it doesn’t hurt.”
The tiny snow leopard sat nearby, coldly watching Yu Xiaoxue use his body to seek comfort, claws extending uncontrollably.
After calming Yu Xiaoxue, Yu Qing, fearing another fight, restored the snow leopard’s size, placing Yu Xiaoxue in his pocket to keep them apart.
The snow leopard licked his paw, realizing what he had done, solemnly setting it down.
He turned, catching Yu Qing quickly looking away. Yu Qing controlled his expression, pretending he saw nothing, suppressing his laughter.
The snow leopard shook his fur, irritably flicking his tail, dragging the forgotten rabbit over, placing it in front of him.
Yu Qing realized: “You went to find food?”
It was a mutated rabbit, three times the size of a normal one, its neck broken in a single strike.
Hedragged the rabbit to the river with both hands, the snow leopard bringing over a machete, placing it beside him.
Shrinking the machete to the size of a kitchen knife, he measured the rabbit, turning to the snow leopard: “How should I do this?”
The snow leopard sighed, squatting beside him and silently guiding him with its paw. He didn’t expect Yu Qing to do it well; as long as it was edible, it would suffice.
Under the snow leopard’s step-by-step guidance, Yu Qing finally managed to cut the rabbit into pieces and skewer them on sticks. But that wasn’t the end of it; next, he had to start a fire.
“Song Xinqi, when do you think you’ll be able to change back?” He asked the snow leopard helping him gather sticks at the edge of the forest.
It had only been a few hours, but he already missed the bliss of being useless.
The snow leopard gave him a disdainful look.
After collecting the branches and spending some time arranging them, he faced his biggest challenge—starting the fire.
He had seen Song Xinqi start a fire before; it seemed to require making a bow-like device to rub wood together…
By the time he had all the equipment ready, he was exhausted and collapsed on the ground. “I can’t go on, I need a five-minute break.”
The snow leopard flicked its tail, realizing that if he didn’t change back soon, this little fool might actually starve himself. He thought for a moment, then went to Yu Qing’s pocket.
Yu Qing thought he could keep up with Song Xinqi’s thinking: “Do you want to let Yu Xiaoxue out?”
The snow leopard nodded.
Yu Xiaoxue, comfortably asleep in the pocket, shook her head and meowed when he saw Yu Qing.
After he enlarged her, the snow leopard pointed to the fire-starting device and then to Yu Xiaoxue with its paw.
Yu Qing asked, “Do you want Yu Xiaoxue to start the fire?”
The snow leopard nodded again.
Yu Qing was skeptical: “Can he do it?”
The snow leopard found teaching Yu Xiaoxue more reliable than teaching Yu Qing. After all, it was his own body, and starting a fire required considerable physical strength. If he let Yu Qing do it, they’d never have cooked meat today.
The snow leopard bit Yu Xiaoxue’s sleeve, leading her to another spot for professional training. Yu Qing remained sprawled on the ground, playing dead, occasionally hearing angry roars and seeing the snow leopard chasing Yu Xiaoxue.
After a while, Yu Qing smelled something burning and sat up to look over.
The snow leopard was supervising Yu Xiaoxue rubbing wood together, one hand on the upper block, the other rapidly pulling the bow. Any sign of slowing down was met with a threatening roar from the snow leopard.
Yu Qing walked over to watch. Soon, sparks appeared at the bottom of the stick, falling into the tinder slot. Yu Qing’s eyes lit up, and he carefully picked up the smoldering tinder, blowing on it gently.
The snow leopard looked up at him, making hin nervous. Finally, the tinder began to smoke and ignited. He quickly placed it under the arranged sticks, and the fire rose steadily.
The reflection of the rising flames in Yu Qing’s eyes was beautiful; he had never appreciated fire this much before. In a moment of joy, he hugged Yu Xiaoxue: “Yu Xiaoxue, you are amazing!”
“Meow!” Although she didn’t know what happened, Yu Xiaoxue was happy if Yu Qing was happy.
The snow leopard bit the skewer of rabbit meat and placed it over the fire to cook.
Yu Xiaoxue sat far behind Yu Qing, biological instincts making her wary of the flames. He wanted to pull Yu Qing away too, but the snow leopard swatted him back.
Yu Qing had no idea how long to cook the meat, so the snow leopard supervised the process, roaring occasionally for Yu Qing to turn the skewer. Finally, the rabbit was cooked.
He felt a strange sense of accomplishment from the rabbit they had roasted together. He offered the first piece to Yu Xiaoxue.
“Yu Xiaoxue, you started the fire, so you should eat first.”
Yu Xiaoxue sniffed it, then took a bite, chewing it whole before taking a bigger chunk. Yu Qing adjusted Yu Xiaoxue’s hand to hold the skewer herself.
Though holding it well initially, as soon as he stepped away, Yu Xiaoxue abandoned the skewer and started gnawing the rabbit directly, getting meat all over his hands and clothes.
The snow leopard felt a pang seeing Yu Xiaoxue’s foolish expression.
Yu Qing offered the next piece to the snow leopard, who looked at it coolly, turned his head, and licked his paw.
“You don’t want it?” Yu Qing waved the rabbit meat in front of him.
The snow leopard walked around him, heading to Yu Xiaoxue and pulling out the crystal core from his clothes, swallowing it in one bite, making his intentions clear.
“Eating crystal cores is boring; that’s Yu Xiaoxue’s emergency food for when there’s nothing else to eat. Now we have meat, of course, we should eat meat,” Yu Qing, with newfound boldness, put the cores back into Yu Xiaoxue’s clothes and shoved the rabbit meat into the snow leopard’s mouth when he looked up.
He smiled, eyes curved, looking at him expectantly: “How is it? Not bad, right?”
The snow leopard made no comment, biting off a large chunk. Yu Qing, understanding the cue, turned the skewer to feed the snow leopard.
Finally, it was Yu Qing’s turn. He was so hungry he couldn’t feel it anymore. After eating a whole rabbit leg, he rubbed his bloated belly, finally showing a disgusted expression: “Ugh, it’s gamey and not tasty.”
The snow leopard beside him seemed to snort coldly.
He suddenly felt something tighten around his waist. Looking down, he saw the snow leopard’s thick tail wrapped around him. He looked over, seeing the snow leopard grooming himself, seemingly unaware of his tail’s actions.
He quietly unwrapped the tail and set it aside, but soon it wrapped around him again, even tighter this time.
He couldn’t understand Song Xinqi’s intentions.
Suddenly, another person leaned against his back, Song Xinqi’s face appearing over his shoulder, grinning foolishly. It was still Yu Xiaoxue in essence. Unable to push her away, he patted his head.
Yu Xiaoxue, always quick to take advantage, hugged Yu Qing from behind, enjoying the affection.
The snow leopard felt something pressing on his tail, turning to see Yu Xiaoxue using his body to encircle Yu Qing, looking thoroughly pleased.
His paw twitched.
Naturally, Yu Xiaoxue ended up getting a thorough beating from Song Xinqi.
Yu Xiaoxue was indignant; why couldn’t he be close to Yu Qing?
Song Xinqi roared in response: “This is my body.”
Yu Xiaoxue: “So what if it’s your body? Why can’t it be touched?”
Song Xinqi: “Don’t touch it. Don’t make me say it again, or I’ll skin you when we swap back.”
Yu Xiaoxue shrank back: “But I want to be close to Yu Qing.”
Song Xinqi: “Hold it in.”
Unwilling to give up, Yu Xiaoxue suggested: “How about you use my body to be close to Yu Qing when I want to? I’ll just watch.”
Song Xinqi: “In your dreams.”
Yu Xiaoxue: “Why not?!”
Yu Qing watched them exchange roars back and forth before they suddenly started fighting again.
Yu Qing suddenly felt a headache.
