The Rise of a New Demon King

Chapter 19: No Holding Back

The abandoned stadium loomed large under the night sky, its once-crowded seats now filled only by shadows. The echo of footsteps broke the silence as Shiro and Chiyo entered from opposite sides, each eyeing the other warily.

Kenzo stood in the middle of the arena, arms crossed, his imposing figure radiating authority.

Kenzo: "Welcome, gentlemen. Tonight, we're going to do something special."

Shiro frowned, his hands shoved deep into his pockets.

Shiro: "This doesn't look like normal training."

Chiyo's eyes narrowed as he rested his spear on his shoulder.

Chiyo: "What's the point of dragging me here if it's just another lecture?"

Kenzo smirked.

Kenzo: "No lectures tonight. This is about action. You two will fight—here and now. Full power. No holding back."

Shiro blinked in surprise, his posture stiffening.

Shiro: "Wait, fight him? Isn't this supposed to be training?"

Kenzo's expression hardened.

Kenzo: "It is training. The best kind. Out there, the enemies won't hold back, so you can't either. Consider this a preview of what happens if you're not prepared."

Chiyo grinned, twirling his spear.

Chiyo: "Fine by me. I've been itching to take this guy down anyway."

Shiro shot him a glare.

Shiro: "Oh, you think it's going to be that easy?"

Kenzo raised a hand, silencing both of them.

Kenzo: "This isn't just a fight. This is the beginning of your partnership."

Both Shiro and Chiyo froze.

Shiro: "Partnership? With him?"

Chiyo: "You've got to be kidding me."

Kenzo: "From this day forward, you'll be training together under my guidance. And you'll be working as a team. But first, I need to see if you can handle each other."

Kenzo stepped back, his voice booming through the empty stadium.

Kenzo: "Begin!"

Chiyo didn't waste a second. He lunged forward, his spear cutting through the air with deadly precision. Shiro barely dodged, stumbling backward as the blade grazed his cheek.

Shiro: "You're serious about this, huh?"

Chiyo smirked.

Chiyo: "Kenzo said no holding back. Don't blame me if you can't keep up."

Kageboshi's voice echoed in Shiro's mind.

Kageboshi: "Stop playing around. He's not here to spar. Treat this like a real fight, or you'll lose."

Shiro clenched his fists, shadows beginning to swirl around him.

Shiro: "Fine. Let's see how you handle this!"

He extended his hand, sending tendrils of shadow racing toward Chiyo. Chiyo spun his spear, deflecting the attack with ease.

Chiyo: "Is that all you've got? Pathetic."

Shiro gritted his teeth, shifting his stance. He summoned more shadows, shaping them into jagged spikes that shot toward Chiyo in rapid succession. Chiyo darted to the side, his movements fluid and precise.

Chiyo: "You're sloppy, Shiro. All power, no technique."

He charged forward, his spear crackling with energy as he thrust it toward Shiro's chest. Shiro summoned a shadow barrier just in time, the impact sending shockwaves through the arena.

Kenzo watched from the sidelines, arms crossed, a faint smirk on his face.

Kenzo (thinking): They're both holding back in their own way. Time to change that.

Kenzo clapped his hands, his voice ringing out.

Kenzo: "I said no holding back! Shiro, summon Onimaru. Chiyo, stop hiding behind your tricks and use Yamitsuki's power."

Both combatants froze, their gazes snapping to Kenzo.

Shiro: "Wait, you want me to use Onimaru? Isn't that overkill?"

Chiyo: "And you want me to release Yamitsuki? Are you crazy?"

Kenzo's gaze hardened.

Kenzo: "Crazy or not, you'll do it. Out there, you won't have time to second-guess yourselves. Now show me what you're really capable of."

Reluctantly, Shiro extended his hand, summoning the Noble Sword, Onimaru. The katana gleamed in the dim light, its presence alone causing the air around him to hum with energy.

On the other side of the arena, Chiyo let out a sharp breath, his body surging with dark energy as Yamitsuki's power flowed into him. His armor grew thicker, his spear longer, and his movements faster.

Shiro and Chiyo charged at each other simultaneously, their weapons colliding with a deafening crash. Sparks flew as Onimaru clashed against Chiyo's empowered spear, the sheer force of their strikes sending shockwaves through the arena.

Shiro: "You're stronger than I thought."

Chiyo smirked.

Chiyo: "And you're not as weak as you look. But I'm still going to win."

Chiyo spun his spear, the blade glowing with an ominous light as he unleashed a flurry of rapid strikes. Shiro deflected them with Onimaru, the katana's time-slowing ability giving him just enough of an edge to keep up.

Kageboshi: "He's adapting faster than you. Stop defending and go on the offensive."

Shiro gritted his teeth, shadows swirling around him as he launched a powerful slash, the blade's energy carving a path through the air. Chiyo narrowly dodged, countering with a devastating strike that shattered the ground beneath them.

The two clashed again and again, each strike more ferocious than the last. The arena shook with the force of their battle, the intensity pushing both fighters to their limits.

Chiyo saw an opening and thrust his spear toward Shiro's chest, but Shiro parried at the last second, spinning around to land a heavy kick that sent Chiyo sprawling.

Shiro: "Looks like I've got you cornered."

Chiyo growled, wiping blood from his lip.

Chiyo: "Don't get cocky. I'm just getting started."

He released a burst of energy, forcing Shiro back. Before Shiro could recover, Chiyo charged, his spear aimed directly at Shiro's heart.

At the last moment, Onimaru flared to life, its energy surging as Shiro deflected the attack and countered with a strike that knocked Chiyo's spear from his hands.

Both fighters stood frozen, panting heavily as the dust settled around them. Shiro held Onimaru at Chiyo's throat, while Chiyo's clenched fist hovered inches from Shiro's face.

Kenzo clapped slowly, stepping forward.

Kenzo: "Good. That's enough."

Shiro and Chiyo lowered their weapons, their gazes locked in a silent exchange of respect and lingering rivalry.

Kenzo: "From now on, you'll be working together. You'll train together, fight together, and survive together. Get used to it."

Shiro: "Great… just what I needed."

Chiyo: "This is going to be a nightmare."

Kenzo smirked.

Kenzo: "Maybe. But you'll thank me when you're still alive at the end of this."

As they left the arena, Shiro and Chiyo couldn't shake the feeling that this was only the beginning of something much larger.
