The Rise of a New Demon King

Chapter 26: The Duel of Titans

The moon hung high in the night sky, casting a pale glow over the crumbling temple ruins. Kenzo stood in the center of the chamber, his breath steady but his eyes sharp as steel. The oppressive energy of the place coiled around him, a silent promise of the battle to come.

The two figures he faced radiated malice and power. One was the devil he had clashed with earlier, cunning and ruthless. The other was something far more dangerous—a towering figure cloaked in dark energy, its presence commanding and suffocating.

???: "Kenzo… I've heard much about you. Your exploits, your strength. But tonight, you face something you cannot overcome."

Kenzo tightened his grip on his weapon, his usual smirk replaced by a grim determination.

Kenzo: "Bold words. Let's see if you can back them up."

The larger figure stepped forward, its voice cold and deep.

???: "I am Kael—the Warden of Shadows. Your reputation precedes you, Kenzo. But reputations mean nothing here."

Without warning, Kael lunged, the ground beneath him cracking from the force of his movement. Kenzo barely managed to parry the incoming blow, the impact sending a shockwave through the chamber. Sparks flew as their weapons clashed, the sheer force pushing Kenzo back several feet.

Kenzo: "Not bad. But you'll need more than brute strength to take me down."

Kael didn't respond with words. He pressed the attack, each strike faster and more precise than the last. Kenzo dodged and countered with calculated precision, his movements fluid and controlled. Despite the intensity of the fight, a small part of him couldn't ignore the feeling that Kael was holding back.

Kael: "Impressive. You're skilled—I'll grant you that. But let's see how you fare when I stop playing with you."

The air around Kael grew heavier, the dark energy surrounding him intensifying. With a guttural roar, he unleashed a wave of energy that shattered the ground and sent debris flying. Kenzo jumped back, narrowly avoiding the brunt of the attack.

Kenzo (thinking): This guy… he's on a completely different level.

Kenzo reached for the medallion around his neck, a faint glow emanating from it as he activated his Demon Binding Mode. Shadows coiled around his body, forming an intricate armor-like layer over his skin. His aura surged, becoming darker and sharper, like a blade ready to cut through anything in its path.

Kenzo: "You wanted me to go all out? Fine. Let's finish this."

Kael's smirk widened as he felt the shift in Kenzo's energy. He raised a hand, summoning a massive scythe from the shadows. Its blade shimmered with a sinister light, the air around it warping from the sheer power it radiated.

Kael: "Come, then. Show me what you've got."

The chamber erupted into chaos as the two titans clashed. Kenzo moved with blinding speed, his strikes precise and relentless. Kael countered with equal ferocity, his scythe carving through the air with deadly accuracy. Each blow sent shockwaves rippling through the ruins, the walls cracking under the pressure.

Kenzo: "You're strong—I'll give you that. But strength alone won't be enough to win this."

Kael: "And yet, here you are, struggling to keep up. Face it, Kenzo. You're outmatched."

Kael's words stung, but Kenzo refused to falter. He unleashed a flurry of attacks, his movements a blur as he pushed Kael back. But no matter how hard he pressed, Kael remained unshaken, his counterattacks growing more precise with each exchange.

Kael: "You fight well. But you lack the resolve to finish this."

Kenzo gritted his teeth, channeling more energy into his Demon Binding Mode. The shadows around him pulsed, growing sharper and more aggressive. He launched a devastating attack, the force of which sent Kael crashing into a nearby wall. For a moment, it seemed as though Kenzo had gained the upper hand.

But Kael emerged from the rubble unscathed, his smirk never faltering.

Kael: "Is that all? I expected more from the infamous Kenzo."

Kenzo (thinking): Damn it. He's not even breaking a sweat. What the hell is this guy?

Before Kenzo could react, Kael surged forward, his scythe cutting through the air with blinding speed. Kenzo barely managed to block the attack, but the force sent him sprawling to the ground. He coughed, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth as he struggled to stand.

Kael: "This is the end for you, Kenzo. Any last words?"

Kenzo: "Yeah. Don't count me out just yet."

Kenzo summoned every ounce of energy he had left, preparing for one final attack. But before he could unleash it, a surge of light filled the chamber, momentarily blinding both him and Kael.

Akira: "That's enough."

The voice was calm yet commanding, cutting through the chaos like a blade. Akira Tachibana stepped into the chamber, his presence radiating authority. He held a glowing sword, its energy humming with raw power.

Kael: "Ah, the infamous head of the Kagemoritai. To what do I owe this pleasure?"

Akira: "You've overstayed your welcome. Leave now, or face the consequences."

Kael chuckled, lowering his scythe.

Kael: "Very well. Consider this round yours. But make no mistake—this isn't over."

With a wave of his hand, Kael vanished into the shadows, his presence fading from the chamber. Akira turned to Kenzo, his expression unreadable.

Akira: "You're lucky I got here when I did."

Kenzo struggled to his feet, his body battered but his spirit unbroken.

Kenzo: "I had him. I didn't need saving."

Akira: "Maybe. But the mission comes first. We can't afford to lose you now."

Kenzo sighed, the weight of his injuries settling over him.

Kenzo: "Fine. But next time, I'll finish what I started."

Akira nodded, a rare smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

Akira: "I'm counting on it. Let's get you back to headquarters. We have a lot to discuss."

As they left the ruins, Kenzo couldn't shake the feeling that this encounter was just the beginning. Kael was no ordinary opponent, and the shadowy figure's plans were far more dangerous than they had anticipated. But one thing was clear—the fight was far from over.
