The Russian Billionaire's Fiesty Serb

Chapter 36: Chapter 36

The blood flowing in my body rushes to my face, confirming the truth of his words.

I move toward him, 'Ok you can go now.' I usher him out of my apartment not wanting to embarrass myself any further. 'Thanks for dropping my stuff off, I'll see you tomorrow.' He chuckles as he argues with me, 'Oh come on. I'm just fishing for information. Especially any girl-talk about me.'

I scowl at him and slam the door in his face.

I hear him laughing from the other side of the door, 'Come on Jas, don't be that way.'

I leave him and walk towards my office to put my documents from the trip away. As I reach my door I can still hear the bastard sniggering.

I open my office door and let out a loud yelp when I see a shadow move in the darkness. I rush to turn the light on, and with my hand clutching my heart, let out a sigh of relief when I realise it was just the white curtain on my window flying about chaotically from the wind.

I shut my window, pondering how it could even be open in the first place, considering I locked and closed everything when I left for my business trip.

As I turn away from my window, large hands grip my shoulders. My body goes rigid, as I wonder who could've gotten into my apartment and bypassed the building's security.

The hands shake me, 'Jas, are you okay?!'

A wave of relief washes over my body. I scowl at Nik, 'Jesus, you scared the life out of me. I thought you were a random person breaking into my apartment!'

Nik glowers down at me, 'What the hell happened?' and I startle when I realise that his expression is different from all the ones that I am familiar with. It's cold with a murderous edge that reflects a raw rage so potent it could make anybody move back instinctively.

I shake my head, 'Nothing, I thought I saw something moving in my room!'

He scans my room, with practiced eyes, as if he has done this kind of thing thousands of times before.

'Wait a minute, how did you even get inside just now? I locked the door.'

Nik's expression is dark and has a steely edge to it. He doesn't answer me instead he lets me go and walks toward the window, opening it, and looks around scanning the surroundings as if he is looking for something or someone. He closes it and walks around my room.

It's only when he moves out of my way, that I see the state of my room and let out an audible gasp. My face goes ashen when I see that the whole room is in complete disarray, all of my documents are all over the place, and my chair has been knocked over and all my stationery. Some of my academic certificates and business awards from ICan Inc are on the floor, the frames completely shattered.

No wonder Nik had such a murderous look. I'm a bit shaken but my mind is already focusing on who could've broke into my apartment instead of letting the fear completely take over me, because that's not going to help right now. Instead I mull over why anyone would want to break into my apartment?

'Oh no, the safe!' I let out when I realise that the thief may have been after that.

I rush to my safe, to make sure that the documents of future projects and other confidential information at ICan Incorporated is still in there.

Nik follows me, watching and observing.

It's hidden in my bookshelf behind faux books. I take the panel of faux books out and key in the 8-digit pin to open the safe. I sag down against the bookshelf when I confirm that it's all there.

I take out all the documents, no longer trusting it to be safe in there, and put it in my briefcase.

I'll have to put it in the company safe tomorrow, and let Stev know that we could potentially have someone after ICan Inc.

I startle when Nik asks, 'So who are these from?' he is holding a fresh bouquet of roses.

'Jesus! I nearly forgot you were here, you're so damn quiet!' I say, as my heart rate calms down.

He glares at me, 'Jas, who did you get these from?'

I frown at him not liking the tone he's taking with me. I walk up to him and rip, the card that came with the bouquet, out of his hands and read it.

'My day starts and ends with you, and it will forever ~ Yours truly'

Ok that's slightly weird. I never thought Stev to be this affectionate even for a bloody prank.

Even the roses are bright red and look fresh. I scratch my head, I could've swore that I threw them in the bin before I left. So they should be brown and withered. Not to mention that the message has also changed from, "Always thinking of you" to "My day begins and ends with you, and it will forever.' Hmm…I mull this over when Nik interrupts me.

'Well?' Nik demands.

I glare at him, 'It's probably from Stev, he's been sending it to me a few times here and there. He's just pranking me, what's the big deal?'

He arches his brow at me, 'You honestly expect me to believe that?'

My hands fly in the air, 'I don't really care what you believe. You asked me a question and I told you the truth.'

He scowls at me, 'Come on Jas. You can't possibly be that naïve!'

I don't like his accusatory tone.

I snap at him, 'Ma idi u pičku matarinu bre!'

'English please. Not all of us are Serbian!'

'I said, you can bloody well go now. I don't need or want your help anymore.'

He crosses his arms and looms over me, 'I'm not going anywhere.' He leans down closer to my face with a stony glare and says, 'Until I make sure that you are safe.'

I scoff and point at myself, 'Done, I'm safe you can go now!'

He grabs my arm in a tight grip, 'This isn't a joke Jas.'

I shake out of his grip, 'Stop treating me like a stupid child. I know that this isn't a joke. I also know I'm old enough to deal with these things on my own. So thank you but no thank you. Leave, now.'

I turn my face away from him, dismissing him and hoping he gets the hint.

Of course he doesn't move. We've reached a stalemate, and I'm not interested in talking to him any further. I focus on what I need to do, which is to get out of here ASAP. I walk to my room and throw my suitcase on the bed.

I empty all my dirty clothes and chuck them in my laundry basket, and proceed to open all my drawers and closet. I start chucking things in, anything that I think I might need for the duration of my stay at my parents place. They're currently away, travelling around Eastern Europe on a cruise ship, which makes it the perfect place to stay without being disturbed.

If I were to call Stev and stay with him god knows how many girls he would have over his place, and I love his parents but I also don't want to be dodging marriage questions for the next few days. I just want some peace to relax and do my work. So my parents place is the best bet.

Especially since they're gone. As much as I do love my parents, I'm not that close to them. They don't really understand me that much, especially because they were always working when I was younger, and left me alone. So I spent a lot of my time growing up at Stevan's place with his parents. They kind of pretty much raised me.
